The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[Fade in]
Io was only vaguely aware of Victoria's own pleasure, certainly heightening his experience. Her grip was painful and wonderful all at once, every point of contact of her skin against his potent and igniting.
And then it was done. His eyes blinked open, softening as the lovely woman sprawled across his body. This was where he belonged, in this complete content reverie, exposed and known by Victoria. She was a glorious woman, so clearly beautiful inside and out.
Io wrapped his arms around her, hugging her firmly to his own form with a shuddering sigh. "You are perfect," he murmured back, bringing a hand up to stroke her hair out of her face. "Gorgeous goddess, never leave me."
Laying there, the wonderful comforting weight of Victoria atop him and staring into those verdant eyes, he allowed himself to fantasize a bit. Of finding a home with her. Of a wedding. Of raising a family of brilliant children with their mother's smile. He liked those thoughts very much. But for now, he was complete here.
After all those years of wondering, dreading even, he'd actually done it. He'd loved it. He loved his partner. That was what made him different from his father, he reasoned and hoped. Certainly finding one's completion within another person was different than the gluttonous seeking of a new partner a night? Io did not want to grapple with those thoughts for now, did not want to think about what he would say to his mother and sister when he did not come home tonight. Would he lie about working late at the shop? Or that he had gotten drunk and didn't want to embarrass himself by coming home in such a state? Why did any of that matter right now?
Io blinked to refocus on Victoria, running his hands up and down her silky soft skin. He smiled at her brightly, leaning up to kiss her on the forehead with another exhale. "I love you, Victoria."

It had been perfect. Short. He had been a virgin after all. But they had made the most of it and Elena could hardly be more satisfied than she was in that moment. She laid on his chest, her fingers tracing little scribbled shapes over his bicep as she listened to his heartbeat and felt the steady rhythm of his breath rising and falling.
'Never leave me.' The words made her smile. She liked how wrapped up in her he had quickly become. She fully intended to have fun with whatever time she could hold on to with this one. I mean, with a face like that... dreamy.
She closed her eyes as he kissed her forehead but his next words stirred up an entirely different reaction inside of her. She felt her heart twist. Not with guilt but with longing. No one knew how much she actually wanted that. Love. She never made a big deal about it, even had made fun of it at times. Inside though...it was all she really wanted. She wanted someone to love her. Not only to desire her. Not only to want her loyalty and the power of her gift. She wanted the kind of love that made a person not care about your flaws, to love you in spite of them, to choose you every day because that was what they wanted to do.
And here was this man who was expressing his love for her. He couldn't really mean it. Not this quickly. Though it was cute to know that he probably thought it was true. He didn't even know anything about her, and certainly nothing remotely true. Not her name. Not even what she actually looked like. But she selfishly wanted to cling to it.
What if this was her only chance to get a taste for what that kind of love could feel like? What if there would never be another opportunity? She lifted herself slightly off his chest so she could look down at him, her blonde locks falling against his chest. "You do?" she asked, her gaze searching his as if looking for the deepest of truths inside his eyes.

That her hands could trace over him forever! Io would never grow tired of the feeling, of her touch. His smile fell as she propped herself up, eyes following hers at her question.
He did love her, didn't he? What else would the word be used to describe this utter fascination, desire, and completeness that she brought him to? Yes, they had only just met but...like Victoria said, there was some sort of instant connection between them, right? That's what happened in the books Io read. Bad situations brought people together who were supposed to be together. And this night with her had been the perfect healing salve for the shocking destruction of his livelihood that morning.
Even more than that, Io felt better about himself in this time with the woman. Many deep insecurities had been lifted, and for one of the first times he hadn't felt awkward or stumbling.
The tailor's mouth opened and closed a few times as he tried to figure out how to express all of that to the woman who lay atop him. "Victoria, with you I've found a better part of me," he finally said, whispered speech becoming more sure. "I want to know you. Everything there is to be known, your goals, your dreams, your favorite color and whether you prefer puppies or kittens," he smiled at that, leaning up to match her with a gentle tap on her nose. "I love you, Victoria. I don't want to go forward without you. Is that okay?"

Oh he was just the sweetest thing that ever lived. She wanted to smother him with love in the same way that one adored a puppy or kitten, like he mentioned. He was the kind of person you wanted to scratch behind the ears and watch his little tail wag. He certainly had caught her attention and she was feeling a bit...possessive of him. For the time being anyway.
So his words were like honey to her soul and she smiled adoringly at him, giggling cutely as he tapped her nose. "Aww, of course that's okay Io!" she said, pressing a kiss to his lips. "I love you too," she told him. He truly believed he was in love with her and though her feelings weren't the same, the statement wasn't entirely false. She did love the idea of him and she wanted to hold onto that for a little bit. Was that really so bad?
She settled back down, nuzzling against his chest with a smile. "My favorite color is light blue and while I do like both, I prefer kittens to puppies," she told him with a little chuckle. Once again she moved to look at him, this time rested her chin against his chest. "Will you stay with me tonight? I don't want to say goodbye..."
