The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Cassian was perceptive. He often saw the unspoken, but he also often chose not to address it. Not everyone had an iron grip on their expressions as he did. Regan was trying, so he’d give her that rather than exploiting her.
With nothing more to say, Cassian nodded. He turned to go, immediately feeling the sting of having his back to Regan. He knew without having to look that she was staring at his back, expression pathetic. She wanted something from him.
After just three steps Cassian turned again. He didn’t often change his mind, but there were instances and people he would do it for.
He didn’t get closer, but his eyes did fall on hers and there was something vulnerable in them, though what exactly it was would be hard for Regan to pin.
“I am not disappointed in you.” Not the words any other woman would have devoured, but perhaps they were exactly the food for Regan’s soul. “I want you to get better.”

And it was enough. The tension in Regan’s body visibly unwound. She smiled a little, gratitude replacing apology, affection replacing shame. Affection, or something akin to it. She just watched for a moment before sleep started to tug at her. With the fire gone, and the mania it carried, she realized the deep ache of exhaustion in her bones.
“I said I’d follow you anywhere,” Regan said, eyes starting to droop a little as sleep stared to take her, “This too. Because I…need…” Regan’s voice trailed off as her eyes fully shut, breathing slowing as she drifted off.

Cassian waited a moment longer, observing Regan in her state. Whatever thoughts or emotions looking at her sleeping might have summoned they were his own, shrouded behind his steely demeanor.
