The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Calanthe had an amazing idea. Grimoire in hand she practically was sprinting back to the house. She hadn't seen him studying, and passing the military grounds didn't turn up her big brother. Pietro was usually up for anything, so surely he wouldn't mind if he became a bit of an experiment. Running up the steps she barged in shouting for her potential test subject. Pietro!?
Carrying the grimoire she started towards his room. He had plenty of tattoos, so her trying her hand couldn't be too bad. Sure this was going to be her first try, but how bad could it be. She was good at this, that's what becoming enlightened early meant right? And either way she was going to try it, how could Pietro say no to her smiling face.
Calanthe wouldn't find Pietro in his room either. He'd gone to the kitchen for a bite to eat and had been a made a sandwich. It wasn't uncommon to find him with food on his person regardless of the time of day or how long it had been since his last meal. He was taking into a bite of a sandwich as he walked down the hall when he saw Calanthe heading towards his room and calling for him.
Calanthe stopped in her tracks and turned to her big brother with the sweetest smile she could muster. There you are! Running up she gave him a hug, careful to avoid the plate of food. If she crashed his lunch asking for a favor wouldn't be the best next step. How was your day? It took everything not to just blurt out her request. She didn't want to overwhelm him or worst make him choke, but she was too excited to keep it in much longer.
Pietro wrapped his free arm around her as he held the sandwich with the other, he hadn't gotten a plate but was just walking around with the sandwich, probably dropping small crumbs here and there. It was already at least half way gone. He swallowed fully as she released him and couldn't help but grin at her energy. "It was fine...and how about yours?" he asked. "You seem awfully chipper," he added, booping his finger against the tip of her nose.
Cala smiled, glad that he was in a good mood and had a good day. Then her idea might not seem so awful. My day was amazing! As always of course, but I did find something interesting. She pulled the grimoire up, with a pleading smile across her face. I want to try and give you a tattoo. Better out then in, and he was in between bites so she wouldn't kill him.
Pietro looked in surprise between the grimoire, which he couldn't read anyway, and his sister. Well that...hadn't been what he expected. He looked at her for a long moment before his lips slowly curled into a grin. It was right up his alley anyway. His other tattoos had all been experiments too. Why should it be any different from his insanely brilliant sister.
Calanthe had the perfect enchantment for him. Or well it was at least very cool anyways in her opinion. Maybe it was just because she was so excited to try something more complicated than a heating stone. Okay so it's a small bat. And it let's you hear anything up 30 feet away when active. Saga. Since she hadn't figured out which area of enchanting was her strongest yet she was trying everything. So far nothing was her least favorite, but there was a lot to learn still. What do you think?

Pietro had to be honest, that sounded pretty awesome, and hella useful! And he had to admit that a bat tattoo would be pretty cool looking as well. "I think..." he said thoughtfully before he grinned. "That sounds awesome! Just hope you don't screw it up and make me deaf or something," he teased with a little laugh.
Being willing to let people experiment on him meant he had to be willing to face the consequences. Most of his tattoos had turned out fine but the moth one had ended up not quite working like it had meant to and still occasionally glitched which usually ended with him falling on his face out of nowhere as he lost his balance.
Calathne smacked her brother on the arm with the grimoire, offended he would even joke she could screw it up. "Of course i won't make you deaf!" She stuck her tongue out but was mostly just glad he was willing to let her try. Not every big brother would do that, especially since it was her first attempt.
"Kitchen for the light? Can always pull one of the comfy chairs in?" She wasn't going to let him back down now!
Pietro cringed as he let out a laugh as she smacked him. He couldn't help but tease her but he knew she was exceptionally talented. He trusted her and if she did mess it up then he wouldn't fault her for it. In fact, he'd probably just praise her for her efforts.
"Now? You want to do this right now?" he asked. "Give a guy a chance to prepare," he teased her. "Alright, alright, kitchen it is." He did grab one of the cushioned chairs from the sitting room though and used an enchantment to make it lighter as he carried it into the kitchen and set it down where there was the most light.
He flopped down in the chair and looked up as his sister. "Where are you putting this anyway?" he asked.
"Of course now! You'd have time to change your mind otherwise!" Smiling she skipped towards the kitchen with her brother carrying the chair in tow. She was excited, this was far more interesting than just changing a rock or watching her instructors enchant a ring.
As Pietro flopped down she set up her tools on the table. Pointing at his hand she didn't have an exact finger in mind so he had a bit of choice. "One of your fingers, any preference?" The key didn't need to be large, and being at the tips of his fingers would give the two feet range a little more reasonable.
[enchantment changed! the new enchantment is a shrine enchantment, it is a key that can unlock anything as long as it is within two feet]
Honestly Pietro was pretty excited about the idea of this enchantment. Getting into anything that was locked...there were so many things he could use it for and after the meeting at the Blackwood Estate he had a feeling that he might use it more than he would have though so before finding out exactly how much his family had their hands in the state of things in Arynn Frey and beyond.
He held out both hands in front of him, weighing them to decide which hand to use. After a moment he held out his left out to her and closed all of his fingers except for his index finger. "This one," he said with determination and a grin on his lips as he looked at his sister.
As Pietro picked the finger he wanted she set to grinding the crystal she had imbued with enough the soul energy she needed. That had been the big lesson two days ago and after catching a couple mice she had enough for the enchantment. It was exciting, and certainly the most interesting thing she was going to work on.
Smiling she started to mix the crystals with the ink. All of that was the easy stuff though, as the enchanting part was going to be harder than just dealing with the materials. Eyes alight with excitement she nodded at her older brother. "Perfect then! Lets do this, just put your hand up here on the table for me." Opening the grimoire she cracked her knuckles and rolled her shoulders. "Last change to back out Pietro!" That chance had sailed the second she found the idea, but she figured it was only polite.
Pietro watched her look and there was a brief expression of sad envy in his eyes. He had watched many enchanters work but he could never do what they did until he become enlightened and could actually read the texts that would provide him with the knowledge of how it all worked. He wondered if he'd ever get there.
But he pushed that feeling away and grinned at his sister with a wink as he set his hand on the table so she could begin. He draped his free arm over his eyes so he couldn't see. "Just do it," he said in a playful, over-dramatic tone.
Laughing as her older brother covered his eyes she had missed any of the sadness in his expression. She was far too excited to notice much else besides the enchantment and his hand. Taking a deep breath she looked between the grimoire and her brother one last time before diving in. Speaking the words to imbue the enchantment in the ink itself she continued to use the grimoire as she started to ink her brother.
One stab at a time, the key started to take shape, and she didn't stop for anything. Hopefully her brother could deal with it, but since he had sat through plenty of others she figured he could. Finally the key was done, and saying the last few parts of the enchantment she let out a sigh of relief. It was exhausting, but she looked up at Pietro with a smile. "Any locked doors we going to try this on?" Her eyes dance with excitement, hoping beyond belief that it worked.
