The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Even though she was supposed to be shut away practicing after her recent enlightening she needed a breather. After a week of doing nothing else she needed something different. Calanthe took a deep breath and stretched, it was a nice day, and so she decided to go for a run. It was probably something her aunt would do, at least that's why she decided to put herself through the motions. Heading towards the military training grounds she totally wasn't going to try and run into Calliope. That was a childhood self, totally not something she still did.
Cali!! Waving at her aunt that of course she had found she slowed to a stop. She was in the middle of something probably but that didn't mean she wasn't going to bug her a bit. It wasn't Calanthe's fault her aunt was so cool. Running the rest of the way she gave her a bit of space, but certainly had no plans to continue her run at this point. Too busy today?
Calliope was alone in the grounds, inspecting her training equipment and the enchantments upon them. She'd been considering having them upgraded, either with additional activation modes or possibly a new scheme altogether. An idea had come to mind about new possible training routines and that mean that some of the equipment might need to be upgraded if she didn't decide to toss the idea at one of the Blackwood smiths to see what they'd make of the challenge. A few ideas she'd had in the past had given them a few headaches before they eventually made headway, even if she had a scheme already in mind she wasn't going to take away their fun.
Hearing her niece's voice, Calliope deactivated the reaction component of the training post first, then the rest of the enchantment. Smiling, she turned to walked over to the fence of the training yard and leaned on it as she reached out to poke her gently in the forehead in greeting. "Just a little maintenance, but nothing major. What're you doing out and about, Cal?"
Her niece was absolutely adorable and Calliope had no doubt that once she figured out what she wanted to do, she'd go far. Same for Pietro. Both of them were good kids and she loved them both to death.
Calanthe wasn't of the right age to get military training yet, but seeing the training post going was rather cool all the same. She wasn't half-bad with her sword, but that was just with her aunt, uncle or father. That device was something else entirely. Thinking about changing it a bit? While she had no idea what she was going to do with her enchantments, Cala was loving hearing about others plans. Anything not to think about her own future at the moment.
Trying to get a bit of a distraction from studying actually. I think my brain might explode if I put anything else up there related to enchanting. She loved it, but honestly at the moment she thought Pietro had the right idea (not that he had any control over enlightenment). The outdoors had never looked so good before.
Her curiosity was something that Calliope always indulged in Calanthe, pointing her in the direction of other texts or other experts if it was a topic she didn't know enough about to give her a solid answer or one that wouldn't be satisfactory enough for her niece. Calliope hopped the fence, leaning on it as she looked down at her niece.
"Haven't decided yet." With both Calanthe and Pietro, she always did her best to honest and candid with them about whatever topics they brought to her. Calanthe's statement about ducking her studies admittedly had her chuckling because she wasn't exactly one for book studies either. "Dodging the tutors and whatnot, then?"
Smiling as her aunt nimbly made her way over the fence she hoped she looked half as graceful in her actions. Sure she wasn't well trained yet, but with a great role model Calanthe figured she could learn anything.
Tracing her shoe in figure eights she nodded her head. She didn't like to seem like she was giving up or anything, but at a certain point it just became far too much. Calanthe always wanted to push the boundaries and in the strict classroom setting that didn't always work out. "A little, just don't think I can watch another demonstration today. Especially since it's the Tedious Trent teaching today." Tomorrow she was going to get to do some hands on learning so she was just trying to pass the time until then.
Tedious Trent. She almost snorted but didn't, though her lips certainly twitched as she bit back that particular laugh. Calliope had met the man before and it didn't take long for her to find a way out of conversation with the man. So she definitely understood that particular nickname. Crinkling her eyes as she smiled, she sent her niece a very amused look. "Just don't let your father hear you calling him that."
Calliope also understood that not everyone did best in a classroom or formal setting, case in point: herself. The amount of times she'd fought her own mother on wearing dresses and the resulting consequences of when she inevitably tore them or dirtied them until Thea had finally given up on her daughter resembling anything like a proper young lady were certainly high. So she had no leg to stand on with calling her niece out for skipping lessons but she could at least make sure she didn't get into more trouble. She'd done the same for Pietro as well.
Calanthe smiled and batted her eye lashes with a laugh. "I would never!" She absolutely wouldn't have dared, especially since it always seemed like her father was proud of her. The last thing she wanted to do was make him think she was ungrateful. But she couldn't also just sit around and listen all day, not when she had so much to prove.
"I promise I won't be skipping tomorrow, just needed this afternoon off. Maybe you have a lesson that I needed to make today?" She gave her aunt a hopeful look. Honestly any excuse to avoid being stuck bored to death one more minute. Running could only take her so far as an excuse.
Calliope shook her head fondly at her niece, already knowing that she'd take her on for the day the moment she'd shown up. With a wave of her hand, she took Calanthe back to her office. It'd be a lesson but a fun one that Calanthe would find interesting and she'd let her lead it with whatever questions her niece had.
For the rest of the afternoon, it'd be a mix of fun and actually learning. So if Cyrus came to her and asked, Calliope would honestly be able to say that she did give her a lesson.
