Arynn Frey:
Not all that much changed in five years in Arynn Frey. At least not visibly.
Kimora has continued to ensure that her authority is both recognized and seen as legitimate by the population. For the most part, many of the Arynnites have adapted to the new way of things. The senators have been elected and regularly represent their people at the Cabinet meetings. The queen and ministers listen with an eager and obliging ear. Meetings are no longer broadcast throughout the nation but instead senators are required to keep those in their constituencies updated about the goings on.
Perhaps the single biggest change is the presence of the Dresmondi refugees. For the most part, they have been integrated into the population.
Trade is roaring and the nation has recently celebrated the wedding between Akagi Llewellyn and Althea Rainecourt bringing the nations of Arynn Frey and Nevermere closer together.
Under the surface however, there is a darker side to the kingdom. In order to maintain order and ensure that her own rule and that of her descendants isn't challenged, Kimora with the assistance of the Minister of the Interior has created a secret police known privately as the Ghosts. Acting as a sort of elite group of Peacekeepers. Its operatives are top secret, hiding even their faces and not even knowing one another's identities. They act as shadows and have yet to be publicly announced. Their purpose is simple: protect Arynn Frey and its ruling family from all threats external and internal. Members are selected for their devotion to the cause and physical ability. It isn't a position that can be applied for. Prospective members receive a mysterious invitation to a secluded area bearing the Royal seal. Should they turn up, they will be greeted by the Master Ghosts. They are expected to operate in the utmost secrecy and carry out all orders without question.
Concretely, this means that anyone who questions or is suspected of harboring doubts about the new world order is placed under surveillance (usually through the use of some enchanted objects). Some of those who are especially vocal or hostile, depending on their renown will find themselves abruptly committing crimes or encountering unusual accidents. For unknown reasons, the movement to free the slaves is also especially prone to assassinating such individuals. Enemies on the outside of the nation are observed but much more rarely acted against.
As far as external policy is concerned, the nation has been constructing a magical barrier around its borders so as to protect themselves against outside attacks most notably in case of threats arising from Dresmond and the Eldouir (in practice, Kimora also worries privately about the strength of Nevermere although this is not known to the vast majority of people). Once completed, something that will likely take another two or three years, the barrier will make it impossible to teleport inside of Arynn Frey without having an enchanted bracelet and act as a physical shield against invading armies and attacks. Most of Arynn Frey's workers and enchanters are or have been working on this vast enterprise. At the same time, the nation is also working on it's "antimagic" weapons.
All in all, Arynn Frey remains the trading power house. Kimora at the very least, has no plans to begin an expansionist campaign but neither will she allow her kingdom to become an easy target.
The Arynn Dresmondi:
Following the cataclysm which saw Dresmond fracture and its people scatter, many came to seek shelter in Arynn Frey. After some debate, they were allowed to stay permanently within the nation so long as they agree to abide by certain laws. There are approximately 1600 Dresmondi in Arynn Frey. Most of them are from either the Rashai, Kushti or smaller caravans with many of the Adoi and Dijila refusing to subject themselves to the rule of a monarch. The rest have made their home within the nation to the best of their ability.
The Arynn Dresmondi are considered citizens of Arynn Frey. They are therefore above slaves and their souls cannot legally be harvested. They are both protected by and subject to the same laws as Arynnites.
Regarding the Nameless, seeing as the Medallion has been lost, no children can go to the Cave of Names and therefore find their Dyr, traditionally the point in their lives when they would be given their names. As a result, children who have come of age since then have been given their name by at least one of their parents and their dyr. The same is true for babies born in Arynn Frey. Those who were Nameless prior to the loss of the Medallion remain so.
There have been some efforts to recreate the Medallion using enchantments but as of yet, there has been no success.
When it comes to making their living, many of the Dresmondi simply use their dyrs and skills to aid the Arynnites. They are allowed to keep a portion of what they farm or mine but are expected to share at least 50 %. Furthermore, in case of war, all Dresmondi of fighting age (18-50) are required to join the Arynnite military.
To avoid diplomatic incidents, the Dresmondi are required to keep their roaming confined to within Arynn Frey’s borders. A few exceptions are made for a handful of traders with a license to journey to other nations.
As far as family is concerned Arynnites and Dresmondi can be in a relationship but must be married for it to be official. Although, within their community, the dresmondi remain free from the constraints of marriage so long as they keep track of their children (for administrative reasons). Dresmondi children are permitted and even encouraged to attend Arynnite schools, with some experiments being made into seeing if they are capable of learning enchantments.
The Arynn Dresmondi are represented by three senators who act as a voice for their people. Current senators:
