The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Kat wasn't quite sure why her partner was being so secretive about where they were going, but she didn't much care. She had some time off for once and didn't feel like changing before shift later that evening. Sure, it probably would have been a motherly thing to go check on her kids, but sometimes a break was nice. Especially since it seemed like they were being pushed a little faster than most pairs might be. Desperate times probably.
"So what's the plan then partner?" Because if Octavius had breathed a word of this, she certainly wouldn't be walking with him. She wasn't necessarily afraid of Regan, but last time they had met she had gotten thrown up against a wall, and the other witch seemed like she could easily kill her. No not afraid, healthily trying to avoid was a better way to put it. Fabian had really pitted two bad bitches against each other and it sucked.

Octavius was sweating. His nerves about this whole thing also had him a little jittery, but he played it off by keeping himself constantly moving and only talking a little.
“It’s important, promise.” His responses had been vague since he had insisted she come with him. It was remarkable that she was actually here and following along rather than shutting him down. He realized she would very likely be livid about what this was all about, but he had to give it a shot.
Regan should already be waiting at the tavern. Unlike Kat, she’d agreed to this, so she knew exactly what they were doing.
“Just…trust me. It’s for your good.” He beckoned and picked up the pace, his long gait demanding quick steps from his partner.

At the tavern, Regan had been getting a head start. The barkeep dropped another flagon at her table, whisking away the empties with a raised eyebrow. Regan could handle raised eyebrows. What she wasn’t sure she’d be able to handle was the intervention Octavius was about to stage. Not only was the wolf form close to the surface (though she’d been gradually getting a handle on it as of late), but she was not someone that processed feelings often or well.
But, Regan reminded herself, she was doing this for Octavius. And given that she’d made him literally piss himself, it was the least she could do.
When they arrived, Kat and Octavius would see Regan slumped into a booth in the corner, a fresh flagon of beer in her hand.
”I suppose drinks are always good for me.” Although she was still slightly surprised that he’d suggest such a thing. Usually she would wonder if there was an ulterior motive but she was trying to keep trusting her partner.
So when she opened the door and saw the woman she had been carefully avoiding she decided to make the assumption it was a mistake. ”Mhmm maybe we should pick a different bar.” This woman was dangerous, and she was smart enough to know when to pick her battles.

They entered, Octavius saw Regan, and at once he was disheartened at the thought that she was drunk and therefore this entire attempt would be a disaster. But they were too far in to go back, weren't they? He spoke at the same time as Kat, the words leaving his mouth louder than hers, reasonably implying he hadn't heard her.
"Look, another soldier!" Was she even that anymore? He'd heard about her promotion. He didn't quite know what he was... "Come on, let's say hi." He said to his short friend, tugging at her clothes but releasing her quickly lest he taste her ire.
"Just play nice for a second, okay?" Hoping she'd be agreeable, he trudged forward, making a path for her to follow that lead straight to the Queen's Huntsman.
"Regan!" He said it loudly, jovially, though his heart hammered in his chest. "Mind if we sit?"

Regan was admittedly surprised to see Kat walk through the door. At this point, Regan didn’t know that Octavius had set a trap and that Kat had not come here in the spirit of reconciliation, with full knowledge of what was about to take place. No—Kat had come of her own volition as far as she knew, so Regan decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. Regan had made a promise to Octavius: that she’d try, for his sake.
When they approached the table, Regan focused on Octavius, summoning a nervous but reasonably convincing smile. “Yeah, no, go ahead,” She answered, eyes drifting to Kat for a split second before she buried her face back into her pint for another drink.
Regan was buzzed but not slurring, so all things considered, it wasn’t as bad as it could be (or might be yet).
Squinting at her partner Kat tried to sus out if this was all a set up or truly the worst coincidence. She knew the guy was friends with Regans old partner, so he probably had an idea who this was. Then again he was the overly friendly type, maybe that was all this was. Unlikely.
”Regan. You look thoroughly busy we should go.” That is if you considered getting drunk something to be busy with. Because she seemed well on her way, and Kat wasn’t sure she could herself from spitting out something the less than normal witch would find fault it.

Octavius could admit a bad idea when he hatched and executed one. While this one was very potentially that, he had hope yet.
"Great! Sit, Kat. Hey, don't be greedy!" He exclaimed, sitting and reaching to nab her drink at the same time, hoping to stop her from continuing down her path so that she would be in the right mind to reconcile with Kat. If he succeeded, he'd bring her drink to his lips and empty the rest of it. He'd slam the tankard onto the table and launch in.
"So, I was having a conversation with the both of you at different places and times, and it turns out--you two are friends." He grinned and nodded, eyes flickering between the two of them.

Regan grumbled at Kat's comment about her being busy but beyond that didn't respond. She'd agreed to play nice, and so that's what she'd do. She made a vague grab for her stolen drink but didn't pursue it as Octavius tossed it down.
Octavius opened the conversation with an observation that couldn't have been further from the truth. Regan chuckled, glancing at Kat and then shrugging.
Looking between the two, Kat felt like a trust she hadn’t known was breaking. She hated that she hated Regan, but she did all the same. Her anger had to go somewhere and it’s not like she could simply leave her marriage.
”Would you?” Sitting down her words were sharp, nothing grumbling about them. ”I didn’t realize friends tried to strangle each other.” She didn’t look at her partner, eyes trained on the with instead.

Octavius was trying to douse the fire one this burning ship.
"Actually," he raised a finger, grinning at Kat if she'd look at him, "some do. Regan's strangled me." He pressed his lips so firmly together that they nearly disappeared in his and nodded his head. Then, to try to lighten the mood and artificially provoke a desire to want to reconcile, he added, "And I pissed myself."
Truth be told, it had been humiliating and he'd intended never to speak of it. Ever. But sitting here, seeing it all go down hill, he was desperately trying. He reached a hand under the table, likely unnoticed by Regan, to try to take Kats hand. It was a wordless beseech. He wanted her to try. Just try.

Regan visibly bristled. Her eyes met Kat's, not breaking her gaze as she absently reached for the pint that used to be in front of her, hand hitting nothing but air. Thankfully Octavius broke the tension. Regan snorted at his comment, running a hand through her hair as she grinned guiltily.
"Yeah, that...that's my bad." Regan would motion to the bartender to bring a round of drinks before turning back to Octavius. She had started to pick at the wood on the table, unsure of how to proceed.
Kat glowered at Octavious, not the look of a petulant child but of someone who might find a creative way to kill him later. Still she didn't smack the hand away and turned towards Regan.
"Right. Well. Whatever." Signaling towards one of the barmaids for a round of something strong she figured she was going to need something to get through this.
Deep breaths. "How are you." Trying to break up any more marriages perhaps?

Octavius considered Kat not moving her hand a win, especially since her gaze sent tiny spears through his heart. For as much as Octavius valued Regan as a friend, it was Kat that was his witch, the one he wanted to be kumbaya with the most. In fact, all of this was for her, too. It was for them both.
"Wait, wait, wait," he interrupted, sending a pointed look at Regan, "we aren't here for small talk. We're here to mend something that's broken." He tilted his head and widened his eyes at his wolfy friend, hoping she would do as she promised him she would. That she'd try.

Thank all the goddesses above Regan's drink arrived just as Octavius finished his declaration. She tossed back a good bit of her pint before sighing and considering Octavius for a moment. She couldn't help but smile.
"Yeah, okay, fine." She looked at Kat. "So-" Regan cleared her throat, "How do we, uh, fix this?"
