The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Spring had only just started, but the land already seemed to thrive. Birds flew over the kingdom, animals came out of their winter sleep and the snow was melting away. Imani had taken her children to the river flowing through the kingdom that day. Isiah was annoyed, like always, and complained all the way to the river about how he wanted to train with his dad, not with his mother or his grandfather. After the seventh or so rant, she smacked the little one against the back of the head, while using her other hand to hold Azia's.
"Your father died, Isiah, and you know this. Be glad your grandfather is kind enough to train you."
The boy was lucky enough that her father had children that were the same age as her son. In Coheed, it wasn't weird that your aunts and uncles could be around the same age as you were yourself. Her father's youngest currently were seven, and Isiah was eleven. Her half-brothers were younger than Imani's son.
Azia also grew tired of Isiah's complaining and urged him to just keep his mouth shut until they had reached the river. And the boy did. Imani didn't say anything, but knew that she'd have to talk to Azia about talking to a man like that. Her brother didn't mind, but with other boys, it would not fly.
Eventually they reached the river, and Imani made herself comfortable in the grass while the two children played on the riverbank. It was still quite chilly, so she had a pelt around her shoulders to keep herself warm.

Kaalim had started spending more time with his children, the older ones at least since the wives were dealing with the newborns and healing. Today though he was spending time with his oldest son and daughter, Jojo (his only remaining son from his first two wives) and his oldest daughter Mbube. Being the oldest two Kaalim was seeing to their training now preparing them for the hardships of their future first bloods, they were going to be warriors and Mbube was going to be Parabolti. As they approached where Kaalim planned to train for the day he spotted two other children and another familiar face Imani, he knew her for a long time through her husband who Kaalim had fought alongside of for many battles even in the Lorendale skirmish that had claimed his life.
"dad there is other people here," Jojo quietly spoke, he looked more and more like his Mother every day only he was built large like his Father, "Can we not just go train with Izen or with the other men?"
Kaalim looked way down at his two children, "Go play in the water until we go train, now go, play," Jojo wouldn't argue, never with his Father, instead he took his sisters hand and lead her away. Kaalim turned his attention toward Imani, she was a very beautiful woman and being a Parabolti somehow made her even more attractive but it wasn't the first time the giant sized man had coveted thoughts about Imani. No, for the longest time Kaalim had envied Rahil for marrying such a beautiful creature despite their friendship which was almost laughable as Kaalim carried the weight of being a proud warrior who could have had everything he wanted. Only thing was Kaalim wouldn't have took another man's wife not even bedded with them, at least while they were alive.
Approaching her, surely she would notice him, he waved, "Imani, it has been a while..."
She saw the children before she saw the Kaalim. Isiah and Aiza looked up from their game of trying to push each other, hoping the other would fall and go underwater. These kids had to learn themselves just how cold the water could be in Ver. If they decided to go under water instead of just walking in the river, that was their mistake. If they came running with chattering teeth, she would offer them her fur and a lecture.
Isiah waved at Jojo. He recognised the boy, and even though Aiza was closer in age to Kaalim's kid, it was more likely that Isiah and Jojo had talked than Aiza and Jojo. She would probably get along well with Mbube though. So they non-verbally invited the kids to come play with them by waving and gesturing.
Imani didn't turn around. She knew that Kaalim would approach her, and she would look at him then. She saw him approach and wave. It was almost symbolic, how she had to look up at the man from the ground she was sitting on. The woman smiled and held a hand above her eyes to block out the spring sun. "Kaalim", she responded. Her husband had fought alongside Kaalim, and she had known the man back then too. It had indeed been a while. Ever since her husband died and she had joined the Parabolti, she hadn't talked to him as often. She was sure he was awfully busy anyway.
"It has been a while. I hope you've been doing good." The smile on her face was kind and warm. She had always liked Kaalim, and he had always been nice to her.

Kaalim gave his bravest attempt at a smile, "I'm fine, getting back into the routine of being a warrior again," the large man looked fine and he carried himself the same but inside he held back his raw hurting, Ra'eads death and all that he had lost weighed heavily on the man's soul and on most days he didn't want to do anything but wallow. Of course he couldn't, if the people of Coheed ever saw the large sized man in such a state like he had showed on the day of Ra'eads death they would see weakness. Kaalim couldn't allow that.
"I brought the oldest of mine out to train, the day is perfect for it I believe," Kaalim would sink and sit on the ground beside Imani, "How are you Imani?"
Imani kept the smile on her face, mostly to hide how bad she felt for Kaalim. She knew his son had died, and she couldn't even phantom how much pain it must still bring him. To her, her children were equal. Girls meant just as much to her as boys, but she wasn't sure how progressive Kaalim was. At least a bit progressive, after all he supported the Parabolti. But when it came to offspring? She had no idea if he valued boys more than girls. If he did, the loss of his son must have been even worse.
"I can imagine", she said, empathy seeming through the words as she spoke. Stepping down as Chieftain could not have been easy either. There was the risk of being regarded as weak. She would never feel this way about Kaalim. She knew what a strong and smart man he was. She studied his face for a moment. He had always been, and would always be, a very attractive man, too. Her husband used to joke about how he would've lost her to Kaalim if he hadn't married her sooner. Was there some truth in his words? They had been relatively close, after all. She shook the thought and focussed on her kids again, who were now playing with Kaalim's. She turned to face him again when he sat next to her.
"Oh yes, it's a beautiful day for training." Her smile faded when he asked how she was doing. Overall, she wasn't doing bad. She had about everything she could wish for, but balancing her training with raising her kids was difficult, especially with a father who wouldn't stop ranting about getting married again.
"I'm doing fine, I think", she responded. It was honest enough without drawing attention to her doubts. "Isiah keeps asking about his father lately. He knows he's dead, but I'm not sure he wants to understand. I think Mizett has been feeding him fantasy stories." She shook her head and chuckled lightly. Her father's second wife, Mizett, was a bit too spiritual to her liking. She had never seen Rahil's body, because she was late to the ritual, and didn't believe he was really dead. It was stupid, and it didn't even concern her.

"Rahil, I miss him, he was a strong warrior and man," Kaalim talked, thinking about his own Father a man now long gone, everything he knew came from hard fatherly lessons at the hands of Cyril Jaggason, "I can't imagine what he's going through, my heart goes out to him...for boys the steering of a Father is a birth right and not having that I'm sure is hard even after all this time," Kaalim was watching the children play, "I can help, I don't mind to train him with Mbube and Jojo..."
The wind played with her hair, and she let it. Now winter was over, it was nice to feel the breeze again. Imani looked at Kaalim with a nostalgic look on her face. "I miss him too", she said softly. Rahil had been special. Even though it had been an arranged marriage, the two of them had really loved each other. She missed the warmth of another person, preferably a man, she missed to be embraced and to be kissed. She missed being loved. But there was no time to think about such things. She had already been lucky that Rahil had loved her. He also could have treated her like a baby-machine, without trying to form a bond with her, but he wasn't like that.
Kaalim's idea was unexpected. "Hmm", she said, making a thinking sound. It felt wrong to let someone train her children while she trained herself. "Maybe a few days a week", she then added, again with a charming smile on her face. "I would like that. Thank you, Kaalim."

She had his attention, it wasn't a mystery that Kaalim was all about the ladies. If anyone asked his wives they'd all the same about Kaalim: he was kind, respectful, and they loved him. It also could be noted that he didn't care to play the field outside of his wives, what woman wouldn't want a child with Kaalim Cyrilson? He was a hulking beast, a experienced honored warrior, and so far all of his children had been born very healthy (it was apparently in longevity that they lacked; diseased or cursed by the Eldouir unfortunately).
When Kaalim saw a woman he wanted...he didn't have a problem getting her.
"and what of your daughter? Is she going to be Parabolti like her Mother?" he looked at Mababu, "I'm seeing to it that all my girls start training, I could offer you and her training...with me...for comfort."
She didn't really have to think about it, but Imani still remained silent for a bit before replying to Kaalim. "I want Aiza to be happy. If she wants to become a Parabolti, I would be ecstatic, but if she would rather be a wife like we have been throughout history, I won't stand in the way of her happiness ", she said. She looked at Kaalim again. "Does that make me a bad mother?" Imani laughed. To her it certainly didn't sound like it would make her a bad mother, but she supposed other mothers had a whole plan laid out for their children. "I will definitely train her, though, so training with you and Mababu sounds nice." She smiled. "If Catrin is okay with that ", she added while laughing and bouncing her eyebrows.

"a bad mother? Never," he chuckled flashing a pearly white smile his laughter was deep and loud but infectious almost warm to the spirit, "I encourage you as the Mother of your children to give them a choice, especially for your daughter, that was vision for women you know?" Kaalim was now looking out and far off as he spoke, "Well it was much bigger the picture I had in my head...Since we all came from a woman, got our name from a woman, and our game from a woman. I wonder why we take from our women? why we rape our women? why do we hate our women? I think it’s time we killed for our women, be real to our women, try to heal our women."
He broke his gaze back to Imani, "Sorry...it's just been a process."
Her facial features softened and a warm smile became visible on her face. She felt safe talking to Kaalim. He was a good man, and she was very grateful that an influential man such as himself had these opinions when it came to women and the suppression they had faced for centuries. She placed a hand on his arm and squeezed lightly. "Thank you", she said. "From the bottom of my heart." Both for the kind words about giving her daughter a choice, and for the words about killing for the women. "I wish more people shared your views."
Imani shook her head with an apologetic look on her face, even though she had nothing to apologise for. But neither did Kaalim. "It has been a process. But you've done so good. You've given us some freedom."

"I hope with the next few generations everything falls into place as I had invisioned them," he placed a very large hand onto where her hand squeezed his arm, "and your daughter and then her daughters will be free of the burden of long ancestral damage brought upon by our men," Kaalim then moved to stand, "but I see Jojo is getting anxious," the boy had kept looking back at his Father, a very eager young man to be a warrior like him, "would you like to join me and my family for dinner tonight?"
The warmth of his hand spread through hers, and she smiled at the man. Kaalim truly was something else. He was the future, and she was curious to see what he would help realise. Even though he wasn't the Chieftain anymore, he had done a lot for the women, and the people, of Coheed. He was a tall man, almost a giant to her, with a lot of muscles, but somehow she felt safer when she was with him than when she was with other Coheedsmen. He had just always looked out for her, even when Rahil was still alive.
She was getting lost in the thought, and his remark about Jojo brought her back to reality. The tan woman blinked and looked at their kids. Isiah and Aiza were drenched, and she clicked her tongue. She would have to get them dry clothes. Imani looked back at Kaalim, who was now standing, and would get up as well. "Thank you, we would love that", she said with a beaming smile.

Kaalim smiled again and with his large hands tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, "then we will see you all tonight warrior," he let his hand drop before tearing his eyes off of Imani, "Jojo and Mbube come, time to train," he had always had a very soft spot for the woman and even though his friend married her and that made him happy it gave a bit of jealousy within him that he didn't marry her first. On second thought he also realized that if he had where would they have been to this day? He thought about his first two wives...slaughtered by the Bloody man...and goosebumps rippled over his skin as he walked away with his children...she could have very well been killed as well.
However that had came and went, there could still be a chance of something...
