The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Foolish was an understatement, and made Alden slightly worried about what cadets the Nevermere army was churning out these days. If she was this jumpy here was she going to run head-long into battle because she thought one of her troop was maybe injured? "Yah." But that was all he could muster, because maybe she was just jumpy over something else and he tried to drop the judgement a little.
"Right then. I think I have the edge on swimming so lets keep it fair. You can swim your fastest stroke and I swim my slowest. Sound fair?" Considering she was worried about a drowning where he could stand she clearly wasn't well acquainted with the water like he was.

Zarha wasn't normally jumpy, she was a good soldier she trains daily, but she just hasn't had real-life experience. However, Alden doesn't know that.
have a edge at swimming Hearing those words made her laugh slightly so she started to make her way to where her feet was no longer touching the ground. "Where the fun in that?" She wasn't going to let her get inside of her head. Plus she wouldn't know what his slowest would be because she never saw him swim before. "How are we do that, you never see me swim?" She was just there she even laid backward floating on her back.
Swimming was something that anyone could do. But actually being good at it was something you had to practice at. And Alden was rather confident that someone who considered he could drown in waist deep water wasn't someone who was in the water everyday like he was. Not his fault she was stubborn.
Alden shrugged his shoulders and started to swim a little deeper, although he was still able to stand where Zarha wasn't. "If that's what you'd prefer then. So on to what the winner gets, what would you like if you win?" Not that he thought there was a chance of it happening. If she wanted to give away his attempts at making it fair that was on her.

Thinking about what she wanted when he asked her. What would she want from him. To be fair, she doesn't really know this guy to know what he could offer her if she wins. "Just the rights to say that I won. If you win what do you want?" She knows there isn't much she can offer.
Ah the trap had been set. Alden smiled, tapping his finger on his chin as if in thought. Of course he had already figured that out back when he had suggested a competition, but that was besides the point, and certainly not something Zarha needed to know. "Okay, fair enough. I want... If I win you have to kiss me." Sticking out his hand in the water towards the woman he winked not sure what she'd do and absolutely enjoying this afternoon swim session either way.

When the words 'kiss me.' Zahra was a bit surprised, if she could step back she would. However she looked at him for a moment, if she says no it seems like she would be a coward. Which she is not.
"Deal." She took his hand and shock it. Making it in a way offical.

Alden smiled as she shook her hand, rubbing his finger on the back of her palm before disengaging and pointing to the dock one-hundred-twenty yards away. "There and then back to the shore, first to that rock there wins." He pointed at a large rock on shore, figuring it would make it easy to tell who won.
"Count us down from three when you're ready Zarha."

Zarha felt a slight blush building when he rubbed the back of her hand. What going on? He just trying to get into her head. She shakes her head slightly to get it out of her head. She looked towards where there was going to and finishing and she nodded. "Sounds great to me." Smiling softly.
"okay. Three. two....." she moved in closer to Alden "one" and as soon as she spoke one she pushed him trying to get him off his feat so she will have a slight head start and started swimming towards the docks.
Seeing the flush in the woman’s cheeks, Alden couldn’t help but smile. This was going to be fun. So he readied himself and noticed as she inched closer to him. It was impossible not to with her splashing. And then as she got to one, Zarha wasted some energy on trying to throw him off balance. The problem being they weren’t standing and he outweighed her. So the shove would do nothing to deter his start.
And if anything it gave him more motivation to continue. Cheating at a challenge was boring and made it all a lot less fun. It’s why he tried to even the playing field in the first place. It didn’t matter though, he just swam, powerful strokes with his long wingspan making him glide across the water easier than someone who was shorter. The water was calm which would at least slightly even the playing field, but Alden had no plans to take it easy on her.

Zarha kept on swimming not looking where about Alden was her eyes were forcus on getting to the docks then back to the rocks She want to win. She doesn't want to kiss him. So taking in the front crawl as she know it as one of the fastest strokes there is and she know that she have short she not as tall as Alden so she need to use her strength where needed.
Powering along, Alden payed no mind to his competition at first. That wouldn’t matter until it was time to race for the rock. So he just did what he did almost every morning, swim like he could get away from his problems. Like somehow if he swam fast enough he’d break through to a place he wasn’t sick and didn’t have to prove who or what he was to others. That would be nice, and it’s what kept him swimming like a fish.
Reaching the dock he slapped it loudly before turning back around to head for the rock. He scanned the water as he did to make sure Zarha wasn’t cheating again. Otherwise he would just continue to race, powerful kicks and strong strokes driving him towards the rock.

Zarha wasn't cheating as she noticed that Alden got to the docks first unless something happens he will win. However even though she doesn't have to prove herself to him. When she got to the dock she tapped the docks and then she turned to face the rocks, this was kind of fun. She never thought that doing something that not training would be fun so without knowing a smile would form on her face.
Swimming to the rocks, she felt the water around her as she started to relax more. the water and her becoming one in a way as her eyes focused on the rock.
Noting that Zarha had given up on the idea of cheating for a laugh, Alden continued on. He loved to swim, but even more he liked to compete. And more then that he liked to win. After a childhood of doing nothing but laying in bed and being treated like he was made of glass, any win was a good one.
Swimming the last bit he stood in the water and made for the rock, seeing that Zarha wasn't there yet. And it would be a short distance to close unless some outside force acted on him.

Zarha carried on swimming focused on the race. she was not that far behind but it did take a few more strokes till she could stand. Once she did, she started to try to get to the rocks. "come on Fishman do you want that kiss or not?" She called out from behind him as she was closing the gap. She might not be a fast swimmer but she was a fast runner and this is where she is the best.
Alden heard the shout from behind him as he finished closing the short 10 foot distance to the rock from the water. Stopping right before the rock he turned around and winked at Zarha. "I want what I'm owed." Sitting down on the rock he didn't like that she called him a fishman but he also liked that he was going to win.
