[ For @kester | Thread takes place during the Eldouir attack on the wall, after Prince Akagi ordered everyone to return to the cities ]
The attack on the wall wasn't done, at least not as far as he knew. But they were done. He, Nephys, Kester, and Walnut had attempted to fulfill the duty demanded of them in return for their refuge. It was only a matter of time, he'd known that, and Kester probably did, too. Too many Dresmondi had escaped to Arynn Frey, and the Eldouir would be coming for them. Now they had finally showed, years later, and Kaveri and Kester had attempted to help. They had wanted to fight the Eldouir, but as they charged forward, the Arynnite peacekeepers turned tail and ran.
To some degree, deep down, Kaveri understood the Prince's orders. He respected Akagi to some degree, even if he didn't trust the man entirely. He had seemed, when they met, like a genuine person who wanted what was best for his people. But he, and the rest of Arynn Frey, had never fought in real battle. They had never seen real war, or suffered real loss. It had taken them all by surprised and they found themselves unprepared and unwilling to do what was necessary to end the Eldouir scourge for good.
It had rubbed both he and Kester the wrong way. Without aid, or information, they could not themselves charge head first into rains only knew what. There was simply no point in getting themselves killed if it wouldn't even benefit their own people, so they too had turned back. And now back in Elyusian, with everyone ordered to remain inside and fight only in an effort to defend the cities should the Eldouir move inward, they sat down at the tavern and ordered drinks. Do you think they'll come here, into the city? Kaveri asked, keeping the conversation between themselves and their dyrs so as not to alarm those around them who hadn't ridden horses at full charge toward the wall. Why wouldn't they? Retreating likely only showed them how incapable Arynn Frey is. If I were them, I would see it as a perfect time to attack.
