The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Ah, yes. The best of friends.
Magda smiled like a Cheshire cat, still holding close to Miriel as if she were a beloved pet on a leash. When they entered the compound, her hold loosened, eyes tracking curiously over the children. Magda was not the maternal type. That much had been made clear from her treatment of Rian’s children; she was not cruel, but was far from warm. She was aware that Hedda hated her—and more importantly, feared her. But that suited Magda just fine.
But the younger ones did hold some appeal. Magda looked at them with a coveting gaze, a dark sparkle in her eye. She still fed herself the delusion that she would, one day, give Rian an heir. But that lie was getting harder and harder to sell. Magda knew—deep down, she knew—there would be only one way—
“So darling…” Unless stopped, Magda would stoop to pick up Kell, so long as he did not resist her.
Making her way to the crying baby in the crib, Kell had been running towards her but had been side-tracked by Magda. He didn't put up a fuss, boys of Coheed weren't taught to fear woman in the slightest, although maybe that would have to change. For now though he just saw Magda as another woman who was there to entertain him. His hands would go for her hair, pulling and giggling.
Miriel smiled at the pair and cradled Serena, bring her over to meet Magda. "This is the newest addition, she's going to grow up differently then I did." Smiling at the baby, she was over the moon, and for a moment she wasn't thinking about Magda, lost in her love for her daughter.

“She’s going to grow up differently than I did.”
Magda, Kell on her hip, turned to look at the babe cradled in Miriel’s arms. She moved closer, letting Kell play with the soft dark curls of her hair as she fixated on his mother. It struck her then that, in some ways, she had more in common with Miriel than many women of Nevermere. Both had spent their young lives strangled by the fists of oppressive men, but now?
Now they yearned for something more.
“She will,” Magda said with certainty, still balancing Kell, “With her mother’s strength, she will.” She smiled at Miriel, eyes uncharacteristically soft as she drank in the sight of Izen’s wife.
Miriel smiled, a flush in her cheeks as Magda complimented her strength. No one ever did that. She'd received plenty of compliments of course, but it was always about her looks or some other womanly feature. Catrin didn't usually compliment her much either. So it felt nice, and it made her feel strong.
"It helps to know you and Rian will keep Coheed this way. Some men of Coheed don't see it as progress still." Looking up from her daughter to Magda she smiled. "But you show the strength in women everyday."

Magda smiled back, looking at Miriel with obvious affection. What was more subtle was the possessive glint of a woman who had spotted a fine jewel in a window display and intended to make it her own.
“We will keep it. Trust me—we will.” Magda balanced Kell on her hip and inclined her head slightly, “Should we go inside? If you need to wash up after your run, I can keep the children entertained." She smiled. "Good practice for me, I suppose."
Miriel nodded at the idea of going inside. She should have invited Magda in, well actually, normally only family was invited in, but Magda was her sister now. At least that's what they had decided, so of course she would be invited in. "Please, come in, I'll get some food going, I can wash up later." It would be rude to leave a guest while she dealt with private things.
So she moved inside, letting Magda care of Kell. If she wanted to, who was Miriel to say no. It certainly made cooking easier since Kell always wanted to run around and play. He was a bundle of energy since he learned how to walk. "I made bread yesterday and there's some meat I could smoke..." Trailing off she would start prepping something perfect for her sister.

Magda entered Miriel’s home as if she’d been there a thousand times before. In the presence of only her “sister”, Magda looked as girlish and unrestrained as she’d ever been. The sparkle in her eyes might be mistaken for lightness with the glow in her cheeks as she held Kell on one hip. She ran a finger down the boy’s nose before gently booping it with her finger.
“If it’s not too much trouble…” Magda said, still enchanted with the child as she looked about the room, “I’d offer to help but,” Kell giggled as Magda ran her fingers through his hair, “I’m a terrible cook.”
Miriel smiled and laughed, shaking her head. "I wouldn't ask for it anyways, what kind of host would that make me!" Looking at how good Magda was with Kell, she was sure the woman would raise great chieftans. The laughter and smile that she had with her son, clearly she would treat her own just as well if not better.
How lucky she was to have such a good sister. "I can give you lessons if you want. For cooking. Izen says it's the best part of his day sometimes." No matter how much food she tried to win him over with though, he was distant as he always was.

Magda watched Miriel move about the room like a beautiful finch flitting from branch to branch. She kept looking for cracks in the woman’s demeanor; anything to prove what she presented was a facade and not a thing of sincerity, but Magda’s attuned senses found no flaws. And that made Magda smile all the more.
“I’d be grateful,” Magda agreed easily, twiring slowly about the room now as she held Kell to keep him entertained. He was fussing a little, only now seeming to realize the woman that held him was a stranger. “And what is the best part of your day, Miriel?”
Magda handled the woman’s name softly, the sound of it drifting like a flower petal caught on the wind.
