Reputation: Magda is a polarizing figure. Many people have existing prejudices about her family, considering the Ivanovas as faux-aristocratic trash. Shit with a sheen. Her father was bawdy and ill-mannered, while her still-living mother is prone to hysterics. Magda, however, is smooth and charming. Though she’s not academically inclined, she has a crackling wit and a sharp sense of humor. She is a master of performance, able to exert influence (particularly on men) through flattery and attachment. Many subjects of her attention find her charismatic, seductive, and enchanting. Others (particularly women) see her as vain, ruthless, and self-serving. No matter where she goes, Magda is noticed - although not always for the right reasons.
The truth is that Magda is a skilled actor. Her entire life, she has been led to believe that her only real value is in her beauty. So she works people like mechanical objects, probing their weaknesses and exploiting their strengths. Even though she sometimes plays the fool, she certainly isn’t one. Her only interest is in the game of political intrigue at court. In studying witchcraft, she is drawn to both curses and incantations - diligently pursuing her study. While Magda is more than happy to play courtier games, she sees witchcraft as a key to ensuring her own security.
Under the layers of ego and self-righteousness, Magda’s unsentimental approach to life is borne out of fear. Her parents didn’t love her for who she was, only for what she was able to do for them. Her entire life, she has been afraid that when she no longer has value, she will be disposed of. But now that her father is out of the picture, she is trying to shore up her own influence so that if her family turns on her, she won't need them to survive.
Combat Experience: Even though her father thought she had no aptitude for combat, she received military training 12-18 as expected. This made her a proficient rather than exceptional fighter. She can hold her own one on one, particularly when she is armed. But if given the choice she would flee rather than fight. She is proficient in hand-to-hand combat and other light melee weapons, preferring dual-wielded daggers above all else. Now that Magda is working to enhance her magic, she is trying to learn to use her magic combatively, but has not yet mastered it.
MAGIC
Magda started practicing magic in earnest only about five years ago. Even in that short time period, she has shown exceptional talent - particularly in curses and incantations. But Magda still has a lot of work to do to catch up to some of her peers.
LEVEL 10 UPDATE:
Ring of Persuasion:
Though it looks like an ordinary ring, it is anything but. The ring of persuasion gives the wearer an unnatural ability to manipulate any person in their immediate proximity. This saga enchantment is triggered at will, the gem turning black when the enchantment is triggered. When triggered, the intended subject(s) enter a trance-like state, where they are possessed by a desire to please and obey the one who wields the ring. Any actions that are suggested by the wearer are performed without question. The strength of the wearer’s persuasive ability is influenced by the following factors:
Proximity → exerting influence over a particular person requires line-of-sight. The wearer must also be within earshot of the target so that the commands can be heard. The closer the wearer is, the more powerful their influence.
Eye Contact and physical touch → each of these alone increases the wearer’s influence, though they are most powerful when both are present. Also, the closer the physical contact, the greater the persuasive power.
More costly commands will require a greater level of influence. Being in the same room is enough for subjects to have to carry out any command that does not do harm to another person. Eye contact or physical touch is required for a command that does require the subject to harm another person (though that person will be amenable to being touched when the ring is activated). Both eye contact and physical touch are required for the most costly commands, like asking the subject to kill another player. Physical touch and/or eye contact are only required when the command is given, not when the subject is carrying out the command. Once the ring is deactivated or the person leaves the physical proximity of the wearer, that subject is released from the obligation to complete whatever action they were given.
Commands that are not concrete actions and instead suggestions do endure after the ring is deactivated or the subject leaves the radius of the wearer. For example, instead of “fetch me that glass,” (physical command) a suggestion may be, “you want this person to fall in love with you.” These commands place a seed in the subject’s subconscious that remains after the ring is deactivated or the person leaves the proximity of the wearer. In the case of the second example, the subject will feel a powerful urge to endear themselves to the suggested target, though it will be one they don’t understand. The same rules apply for the level of ask as they do for actionable items. For example, the suggestion, “you will no longer have a taste for liquor” would not require physical touch or eye contact, while a command like “you will find your brother untrustworthy,” would require both physical touch and eye contact. These desires will fade over time, though over the course of months or even years rather than hours or weeks.

Power of the Succubus:
Magda's misdeeds have unlocked a dark aspect of her witch magic. She now holds the power of a succubus: a malevolent being that lures her prey (men) through sexual attraction.
Magda appears as an eternally young and beautiful version of herself. All men—regardless of their sexual orientation—are helplessly drawn to her beauty and charisma with a power that puts "love at first sight" to shame. Magda can appear in men’s dreams and do with them what she wishes, each subsequent appearance further solidifying a bond that compels them to please and obey her. Her sexual encounters (both in dreams and in reality) are spiked with magic, making her easily ‘the best’ someone has ever had with no comparison.
Magda needs semen to survive and maintain power; encounters with new lovers bring the succubus the most strength. Without regular sexual activity, her power weakens and her true form becomes visible. Beneath the veneer of her beauty, Magda is now a horribly disfigured monster with rows of needle-like teeth, a reptilian nose, snake-like eyes, and pale, wrinkled skin. Even at full strength, if a woman looks at Magda closely, they can see the ugliness beneath—though only for a split second. Enough to believe that the vision was imagined.

Tale: For generations, the Ivanovas were considered among the commoners. They were successful, wealthy merchants who tried to break into the aristocracy generation after generation. Finally, after greasing a few palms and calling in a few favors, Magda’s grandfather Vasil Ivanova, was able to secure a title of nobility bearing the family name. Even though they now had titles, the Ivanova family was far from noble. They were shallow and quarrelsome, prone to scandals and public embarrassment. Respectable families avoided them as best they could, locking them out from the most powerful circles in Nevermere.
But when Julius Rainecourt began to move in on the throne, a young Andrei Ivanova - Magda's father and new head of the family - saw an opportunity. Early on he allied himself with the soon-to-be monarch, trading in secrets to curry favor. He was eager to rat out anyone who might be opposed to the king, even conjuring up false accusations against his political enemies. It was enough to secure him a better position under King Julius, even though many would never forget his treachery.
At the time King Julius assumed the throne, Andrei and Petia welcomed their first child, Magda. Andrei resolved that his big-eyed beautiful girl would be the crown jewel of the Ivanova family. He provided her with all the trappings and trimmings that a privileged life could provide - but not only for her benefit. His objective in raising his child was clear: use her to raise their status even further.
Andrei was an unpleasant and domineering father, obsessed with finding how Magda could best serve his needs. His daughter showed no real academic or athletic aptitude, even though she was provided with the best schooling and training. She participated in the mandatory military training, but she was acceptable rather than exceptional. Though she showed interest in witchcraft, she received minimal training as her father decided that wasn’t worth her time. Andrei had decided that his daughter’s value was in her unmatched beauty. He became obsessed with curating Magda’s image - dressing her in the finest clothes and showing her off anywhere he could. If the rumors were true, Andrei took perhaps...too keen an interest in his daughter’s appearance and sexuality as she came of age. But such things merely remained whispers.
Shortly after Magda’s nineteenth birthday, Andrei Ivanova died suddenly. The general consensus was that he had been poisoned, but nobody really bothered to investigate. Andrei was widely disliked, and the world was better off without him. Petia (Magda’s mother) married a lesser noble who sought to increase his own status. The new marriage has increased the family’s wealth, but left Magda and her brother as the only two nobles to retain the Ivanova name. This was mutually agreed upon by Magda and her step-father, as he considers her a nuisance and embarrassment. Even though she is generally able to move in higher circles than he is, his piety sees her methods in being able to do so as shameful. He sees her as a threat to his own authority, and ever since marrying her mother has been trying to pressure Magda to marry out of noble life.
Her younger brother, Stoyan, is more muted and does not have the ambition that Magda does. While Stoyan faded into the background, Magda pushed her way to the forefront. She grew up ruthless, cunning, and fixated on the way she is seen by others - as her beauty is her greatest weapon and defense. Particularly since her father’s untimely passing, she has continued to practice and study witchcraft, something that she has shown some talent for. Nowadays, Magda cares less for her family’s fortunes and more for her own.
