The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

(this thread is for Tybalt Zane ; TRIGGER WARNING: attempted suicide)
Remiel had been left by Captain Tybalt so he could square away the rest of the arrested Gifted. His one good eye (though no medical aide had been extended to him) stared into the dim damp dungeon darkness and he thought: this was the end of the line and he didn't need no trial or investigation done to know that the Crown blamed him as an involved party he could scream to the sky that he had no idea Oriana was going to do what she did because like before he was a Gifted man in the wrong place at he wrong time. He was sure this time he'd be stripped of everything and left in the collar to fiend for himself like a begger. Or death. Either was a sure death. He would never live in a collar and...
Remiel put his wrist up to his mouth and began to bite as hard as he could, he pushed through the pain because this was nothing compared to what Oriana or Hiram had ever put him through...he bit and chewed and nawed until the blood gushed and entered his mouth and with his left wrist bleeding he attempted to start on the other...
Arynnite armor: The armor have two states: active and inactive. When inactive, they look like little more than ornate metal bracers, easily ignored. When triggered, the armor covers Tybalt and serves as an exoskeleton. It will protect its wearer from physical damage and is practically indestructible.
The armor has a certain "preprogrammed" purpose which is to protect its host. To do so, it reacts to heightened emotional states such as fear and anger, at which point the armor will trigger regardless of whether or not Tybalt wants it to or even if he's immediately aware of the threat. It has some degree of awareness and sentience although very basic and one which struggles to differentiate between enemies and friends. Whilst not actually in possession of a will, the armor can guide or direct its host in a specific action, much like a reflex.
The armor needs to be "fed" as Tybalt has discovered meaning that he must hold and absorb through touch certain metals such as steel, copper, iron and tin, a process which takes a few minutes. Without which, the armor will begin to weaken and become less effective until no longer able to manifest.
Perhaps its greatest weakness is that if being consistently bashed or beaten, it would begin to repair itself by using parts of the armor from elsewhere. For instance, if the wearer is being consistently hit in the chest, the armor will begin to pool away from other parts of their body such as the feet and hands, leaving them vulnerable.

Oriana had been locked away in a separate cell, a medic checking over her. Apparently being punched in the head by a man with enchanted armor and super strength wasn't terribly good for one's brain. Whilst she was being tended to and their captive Eldouir was doing... whatever Eldouirs did... Tybalt carried a bucket of water and a few supplies to the man he hoped they could liberate soon enough. The doctor would be along shortly.
The man actually dragged his feet a little as he made his way down the stairs. How was he to approach a man who had risked his life so many times for his nation, only to have it thrown back in his face. Even a man who called him his "friend" had been the one to put the collar on. With a deep breath, the commander readied himself for whatever might be awaiting him. He opened the door.
The sight that greeted him sent terror down his spine. For a few seconds, the veteran soldier felt as if he might even have been about to lose his lunch. Were it not for the sense of absolute urgency.
"Remiel?! What are you doing?! Stop!" Tybalt was already running by the time that he had began shouting.
Without really thinking, the commander would retrieve the keys from his belt, fumbling as he made for the one to Remiel's cell. He would open the door. If the gifted was persistant in trying to knew through his own wrists, or even if he paused, the commander would get physical. He would move to slam his friend against the wall, his left arm under the man's throat, and the other reaching for the wrist he had been about to go for and pulled it out of the man's reach.
Tybalt forgot himself for a moment. The usual effort he went to to check his enhanced strength was forgotten about. Were he capable of it, he would probably have torn Remiel's limb off (as counter-productive as that would have been) if it meant stopping his sudden desperate madness.

Tybalt was strong, way strong for a man his age and Remiel barely could fight back as the tears and worry finally broke from within Remiel, "why Tybalt are you stopping me?!" he cried out but he had stopped fighting, "I have nothing left...nothing...everyone I loved is gone or dead, let me go with them.."

The fact that Remiel was crying sort of registered with Tybalt, but only insofar as he recognized the man's distress. As shaken as the commander was, he didn't allow himself to let go, even after the man had stopped fighting back. "I'm stopping you because you're my friend!" The commander would shout. Doing what he could to catch his breath. "I know what it's like to lose someone..." He'd lost so many people over the years, friends and family alike, he could remember the pain from each of them acutely even now. "Things will get better." Tybalt stressed that much.

"you can't promise that Tybalt, things will get better?" Remiel almost wanted to laugh but he just pressed on, "I could save a hundred people gifted or non-gifted and just because of who I am...," he recounted all the good he had or has done for Lorendale, "I'm in a collar because of someone I was with someone I loved betrayed my trust...last time with the farm I saved YOU and I saved Titus, Tybalt they stripped me of my job for what? Things I'm still not clear about, because I share a past with that fucking crazy family?! Then the whole KINGDOM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE! They made this distrust and they made that family, the Crown and the Eldouir almost made my family extinct and we're still dying...we are still missing....if you don't think Cassian hasn't made up his mind already then I don't know what to tell you..."
Remiel just let his head fall and he fell silent, "I don't care anymore, I don't cRe about these people I use to feed and defend...what have they done for us?" He sounded defeated.

Tybalt bit his tongue to avoid immediately snapping back something. It would have been so easy to call the man a fool, but he knew there to be some truth behind what the gifted was saying. It was anger, pain and emotion speaking, but it wasn't entirely devoid of truth. So the commander let him finish. Did what he could to calm himself down and to think through what his response would be. "I can't promise, but what I can say for certain is that nothing will get better if you're dead." The commander took a breath, trying to settle his nerves. "I know that it's hard... More than perhaps you realize." There was another world, where the older man knew that he and his family might well have had collars around their necks. "Yes. I know that we are all, terribly, terribly, ungrateful, but if you die now, everything you've done will be for nothing. It's men like you Remiel, who will change things, by proving that you're better than the Eldouir, than me, than anyone else in that room."
The commander paused for a moment. "You might not realize it, but you are changing things. My men they know what you've done. They tell their families. You're a hero to them. That's how you change people. Little by little." He let out a heavy sigh, feeling all of the tension leave him. If Remiel really wanted, he might have been able to shove off the commander right now. "What about those children?! They need you Remiel!"

Remiel deflated, he felt suddenly tired and now his wrist hurt, "I don't know what to do Tybalt," he'd relax so Tybalt knew he wasn't going to do anything else, "I don't know how to prove my innocence after the farm attack...these people don't believe me and they aren't going to give me a third shot," he looked at Tybalt through his one good eye, "tell me what to do..."

The commander would loosen his hold on Remiel, allowing the man to slump down if he so wanted to. The commander's eyes would find the blood flowing from the gifted's wrist. He was reminded that there was a very real danger right now. "You can start by not dying!" They would need some proper medical attention for this, for the time being however the commander would have to content himself with some first aid. The bleeding needed to be stemmed. Tybalt would tear off some fabric from his right sleeve. With a ribbon in hand, the commander would move to tie it tightly around the forearm of the man, if he allowed it.
"You just keep on being the man you've always been..." The commander would pause for an instant. "Let me worry about proving your innocence. It's about time that you get some of the recognition that you're due."

Stay alive. What a heavy set of words Remi thought he felt anything less than staying alive, he felt alone despite Tybalts claim of friendship.
"Do what you can..I don't feel my word will do anything in the favor of King Cassian but perhaps the Queen?" he sat down on the only stool in the dungeon cell he put a hand over his wrist feeling how warm and sore the chewed wrist was.

Tybalt was inclined to agree with Remiel's statement regarding, king Cassian. The man was stubborn, and from what the commander had seen, he was only going to be compelled by concrete and indisputable proof. "If I asked it of you, would you accept to drink some of the witch's truth potion? If I can convince the king to allow you to take some." The man would answer his next statement. "I don't think it will take much to convince the queen, she has faith in you. It was an awkward situation for her to be in given the king's position."
The commander let out a sigh. "Remiel, do you have any idea what happened back there? I don't understand any of it. Why did Oriana attack? Where did all that fire come from suddenly?"

Remiel stared at the ground and them at the wound, his left eye was nothing but darkness, "We were going to get married...I built us a home and I even encouraged her to register," his voice was nothing but hurt and full of his own confusion, "I didn't even know she was going to be here today."
He looked at his wrist at the blood now drying, "I won't drink their potion Tybalt, I can't bring myself to trust them...Nevermere...if the merit of my actions today isn't enough then what good will a potion do? What if they want more and my past is questioned? I'd be all but hanging myself," finally a blue eye turned to look at the Captain, "I have a knack for just being with the wrong person, or the wrong place...I saved you twice, I've never fought back against the Queen or the Royal family...I jumped into action for my kingdom twice and even when they brought me in or collared me like today I didn't argue nor did I resist because I want to clear my name just as much," a heavy sigh as he looked back to the floor once more, "but I won't do that."

There seemed to be not much point in interrogating Remiel any further than he had done already about Odina. The man seemed to be as confused by all of this as the rest of them were. He suspected the truth would only come from the horse's mouth, and frustratingly, she was unconscious right now. The doctors had informed him that it would be a while before she was capable of actually explaining herself. Even then, the commander was willing to bet he might have to pull out the big guns to get her to provide anything even resembling a justification.
"I can respect that... I'll send word to some of the Kane troops and have them protect your school until you can attend to it yourself." Tybalt muttered. He didn't know what he would have done in the man's place. Although certainly it would make proving anything to Cassian almost impossible. The commander would lower his voice as he spoke next, aware that to the wrong ears, his next words would be seen as something akin to heresy. "As far as I'm concerned, you don't owe this kingdom, or anyone in it, anything. Once you're free. You can go and do whatever you want." The commander would try to make sure his friend could find some peace somewhere.

Remiel heard Tybalt loud and clear dangerous words if heard by anyone else so Remi just said, "We'll see Captain...We'll see," he felt tired and the flash like burn on his skin stung, then his wrist, "can we try to keep this between us? Please," Remi pleaded softly, he was of course indicating his weak attempt of offing himself, thats where his one eye was drawn.

Tybalt let out a sigh. He wanted to do what Remiel asked, the man needed some sort of a break. This seemed like a rather simple request in light of everything that had happened. It wasn't even as if they could have used his act of desperation as some sort of proof of his innocence. His detractors would claim that he'd acted out of guilt. "I'll bring you a new shirt." The commander promised. The gifted's attempt on his life had been a clumsy and ineffective one. "Bandage up those wrists. I reckon that they won't know. You can blame it on the burns. My lips are sealed."

"You're a good man Tybalt, Captain, a good man in a broken world," Remiel felt tired all over again and fought back a yawn, "I know you have a lot to do, I'm fine now, go see how the Queen is...you've got your hands full friend."
