The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Since Izen's death Kaalim had kept his distance from Rian and Magda, the truth of the matter was the entire situation had twisted the mountain sized man up inside with conflicted feelings. Could Izen have done what he had been accused of? If he really had then his sentencing was fair, Kaalim didn't condone such actions and would have done the same but...
What if Izen had been entrapped by his convictions against Magda? What of his baby brother had been innocent of his actions? Again Izen had always been so supportive of Kaalim and loyal, he'd never seen Izen rise to his anger or bite the bait of their Father's behaviors toward women Kaalim had never as much seem Izen raise a hand at a woman.
Had his secret love for Magda clouded his judgement as well? And he couldn't think about Rian at the moment, not in the heat of training.
So with a heavy huff that pushed the steam of the early cold morning Kaalim returned his focus on the training grounds. He had took it upon himself to oversee the training of the new First Bloods personally starting this morning by pairing them up with one man and one woman to spar bare knuckles. It was a fairly bloody affair that Kaalim had imposed, he himself had opted to train alongside a pair.
"He's got the size advantage Ira," Kaalim explained to young Parabolti warrior, she was listening intently while sizing up the larger boy, "How would you gain the advantage over a larger opponent?"
Ira thought about it respectively before answering, "I would use his size as my advantage Kaalim, use perhaps his momentum to throw him off."
Kaalim nodded in partial agreement, "How?"
"Strike low, sweep the legs upon his charge," she answered, her tone eager to will that as a correct answer.

Of course Aldrich had been surprised to hear about what had happened. He had seen and met Magda only days prior, but he was still quite unfamiliar with Izen and Rian. He hadn't been in Coheed for a while. Still, it was shocking. Murder and rape inside a family, and the reigning family that was. He hadn't met with anyone in regards to the situation yet. He needed to have a clear view first. It wasn't his business either. It didn't involve the military much, apart from a rogue brother and one less man to incorporate into the military.
Today he would supervise the training for a bit. He wondered how he was to successfully incorporate the warriors into the Nevermere structure of it all. It's what Magda wanted. He would have to start by talking to the trainers. It appeared that today's trainer was Kaalim. He was pretty involved already (as far as Aenwyn knows, DM me if I'm wrong). He had helped with the Parabolti and rumour had it he was marrying one as well.
Aldrich stood by and watched the warriors fight. The sight of a woman fighting wasn't new to him. The lieutenant moved closer until he was eventually standing next to Kaalim. He gave him a polite nod of recognition and respect.
"Kaalim, nice to see you again. I don't know if you remember me, Aldrich Abbott." The last time he had been in Coheed, he was still training to be a drill instructor. Oh, how far he had come since. "I'm sorry to hear about your brother. My condolences."

The woman charged the man when Abbott came up them, the man aware of the woman's approach (she darted forward with a fist going high as she went low for the legs in a tackle) very cheeky countered dodging the punch and driving a knee into the side of her head planting her head first into the sand which drew a sign from Kaalim.
"Abbott," Kaalim greeted the Nevermere soldier with a simple light fist to the chest, "I remember you, it's been a few years," Kaalim crossed his arms dwarfing the man in size and even thickness (he was in fact the biggest one across the entire training field), "Get up girl, another lesson learned I'm sure: never tell your enemy how you plan to strike. Just do," the man would help the Parabolti up and Kaalim who wanted to avoid the subject of his dead brother and family drama simply replied to Abbott with, "What's done is done, justice and honor were upheld."
He nodded for them to go again and again the results were pretty much the same, the man this time flipped the woman brutally over his shoulder keeping a hold on the woman's arm locking in a arm bar to which she quickly tapped. In fact if one scanned the training field the women were fairing poorly.

He was honestly surprised that Kaalim still remembered him, but it was a pleasant surprise. He had liked Kaalim and what he stood for back when they had met then, and he still did. The former chieftain reacted somewhat coldly to the condolences offered to him, but at the same time, Aldrich understood. Some things just had to happen and had to be left behind you as soon as possible to prevent it from gnawing at you. He had experienced the same with Nadine, of who he thought rarely nowadays.
Aldrich watched in silence as the man instructed the warriors. Nevermere and Coheed sometimes had different techniques, but in general he could find himself in their training. The core was the same, after all: creating strong fighters.
"They aren't", he responded, looking from Kaalim at the female warrior. "The men just have a headstart, but the women are strong."
He thought for a moment. Was there a way to get them to improve quickly over a short period of time? Sadly, Coheed's culture just didn't allow them the time they needed to get to that point. They still had wifely duties and had to take care of the children.
"I'm not the smartest man, Kaalim, but I have some ideas if you'd like to hear them." None of those would be to undermine Kaalim's knowledge or power. He genuinely meant well.

"Not as strong or where they should be, they've been free to train for years and yet," he waved his hand out to indicate the women, "I was able to kill a man thirty different ways before I six, killed a pack of wild Wolves when I ten, and on my first blood I killed my opponent with my bare hands...I just don't get it," he sighed again and looked down at Aldrich, "I'll hear it, your suggestions," and Kaalim fell silent to listen.

Everything Kaalim said, made him believe even more in the suggestion he was about to make.
"The Parabolti need a safety net, and support. The old traditions are still in a lot of people's behaviour and habits. I suggest gathering a group of women that aren't interested in being warriors, and having them look after the kids during the day. These Parabolti, they don't have the same freedom as men, even if we want them to have it." He paused for a moment. "With all due respect, in a lot of people's, and especially husband's eyes, they're still mothers. They can't train properly if they're worried about getting home quickly to take care of the children. A daycare is what they need, especially for the young kids."
He then remembered what Magda Ivanova asked him. To incorporate the warriors into Nevermere structures. "Or let them train more with the witches that are currently here. Nevermere has had female soldiers for a long time now. They can help with the mindset."

"I hear you," he replied still watching, "The idea of a group of women willing to watch the little ones is good but when they train, be it with witches or men, I believe training as a whole unit not a separate one is best," Kaalim unfolded his arms, "Though I do suggest taking these ideas to Rian and Magda for their consideration...I can only lead as a warrior, though if I were to be a Nevermeren soldier what rank would I hold? I've often found myself curious, how I'd be incorporated within your world..."

"You're definitely right. The women and men should fight together, otherwise there will never be a sense of unity. I do fear some men are still a bit too fond of the old ways, though. We'll need to keep an eye out so the women aren't bullied."
The mention of Magda Ivanova made him remember a wonderful dream he had about her a few nights ago, and a shiver (a pleasant one( went down his spine. "Will do", he responded, wishing to talk about anything other than Magda. He didn't want to think too much about his dream, because it would definitely do things to his body that he didn't want it to do in public.
Aldrich looked back at Kaalim when he asked his question and thought. "Hmm, definitely someone higher up. You train the soldiers, so I would say officer, like I used to be. With how influential you are, you could also be a lieutenant, what I am now, but it's more paper work than field work." He sighed softly. "I missed that, so I'm glad they sent me here."

"I would like to join the ranks of the Nevermere military," Kaalim said quite bluntly, "If war with the Redheads looms in he future of the King...I want my revenge, they have took from me a great a many of things, and I wish to return the favor....can this be done?"

Aldrich hid the fact that he was caught off guard by the request. "I have to be honest with you, Kaalim, I do not know if that's possible, but," he held up his index finger while saying 'but', "I will write the Captain Commander and see what I can do." He hoped it would be enough to satisfy Kaalim for now. "Personally I feel like it would be a good step forward for our understanding. Perhaps the people back home would like to wait until the understanding, the core of what Coheed and Nevermere are together, is a tad stronger, but again, I will see what they say."

Kaalim actually smiled nodding, "Yes, please do that...write your Commander," he stood straight, "I have to agree it would move relationships forward...in the mean time, we should focus on our Parabolti, turn these women into true warriors."

Aldrich nodded. He would write a letter to Hadrian once he got back to his hut. It would move the relationship forward but it could also prove difficult. "I agree. The crèche is a start but they'll need more than that." He looked around. The women weren't doing bad, but not good either. "Do you have suggestions? You know these women better."
