NICHOLAS BEAUMONT
GENERAL
Age: Forty
Birth Season: Spring
Occupation: Ship/boat and trading company owner
Kingdom: Nevermere
Citizen Status: Noble
PHYSICAL
Weight: 175 lbs
Body Description: Nicholas has an average build, a bit on the muscular side from training and doing physical work. He has gray hair, a beard and piercing, blue eyes.
PERSONAL
Aspirations/Ambitions: To not be like his father, proving to himself he's still the old Nicholas, becoming 'normal' again
Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Extra: BPD
TW: emotional/physical abuse
Nicholas was exposed to a father who was a drunk and abused him both emotionally and physically. John was a high-functioning drunk and successfully managed to hide the fact that he was an alcoholic. Oftentimes his father wouldn't acknowledge his existence at all. There was truly no reason for it. His father simply didn't like him. When Jovi was about to be born, Nicholas was scared that he would turn into his father, and the stress gave him a mental breakdown, causing his own genetic predisposition to catch up with him, combined with the abuse from the past.
Reputation:
Family — The Beaumonts are a well known family, especially in the big city. They have been there for many generations and are a big player in the (local) economy. Their company has ties to a lot of merchants, taverns and other nobles.
Nicholas himself — Before his mental breakdown, Nick was known to be a very kind and sweet man. He supported his friends and family, and you would never be able to guess that he had endured abuse from his father for so long. He tried everything in his power to not be like his father, John. He was a warm person, and even put others before himself.
After his breakdown, something kind of snapped. Nicholas turned inwards, became more individualistic and selfish, and wouldn't be as reliable as he had once been. His BPD includes a pattern of unstable, intense relationships. He often gets back in touch with people from the past, only to drop them again when he gets anxious. He often acts without thinking about his actions first.
The people at the company have seen the change in Nick's personality and behaviour, but because none of them are particularly close to him, they try to look past this change. They do, however, find it exhausting to never know what kind of mood he will be in. Some days he is helpful, and other days he stays in his office all day, ignoring his workers knocking on the door.
When he is manic, he wants to be a father and go back to his wife. They weren't divorced, because that would be the end of their reputation. He still loved Indira, he just couldn't be a husband and a father when he was in a bad state. He would run away, disappear, and not tell anyone where he was, just to be back and go back to Indira and Jovi with promises about doing better.

Their families tried to keep this on the down low. Especially Indira's family didn't want people to know that her husband was... Odd. The people of Nevemere didn't exactly know about it either. Most people that knew Nicholas knew that he was unpredictable and chaotic, but didn't know it made things between him and Indira difficult. They didn't see them together a lot, but at most people would attribute this to Nicholas running a big company, which kept him busy. Now that she worked in Arynn Frey from time to time, they had a good cover for it, too.
Combat Experience: As far as combat experience goes, Nicholas did his mandatory training and trained with his older brother when he could. He knows his ways around swords and maces, but also has experience with hatchets and throwing them. After the mandatory training, Nick was a soldier until the age of 25, when he took over his father's company.

Tale:
TW: abuse
Nicholas was born the second child to John and Veronica. John, a successful businessman who's focussed on everything sea-related, didn't spend a lot of time with his children, at all. He was always out on the docks, working late, drinking a lot and being an absentee father. He lent out boats to adventurers, and worked together with other ports to trade food, items and luxury items. His childhood wasn't bad, apart from the abuse he faced from his father. He got along well with his siblings and his mother, although his mother was too scared to console him or acknowledge the abuse he faced. She was terrified of John, and got her own share of physical and verbal abuse from him as well. The other children had less of a hard time with him, but were scared of him as well. Nobody would ever believe them if they were to tell people about John's abuse, because he was a high-functioning alcoholic and was good at masking and hiding his personality traits that his family witnessed in private.
Once he was old enough, Nicholas was expected to help his father, together with his older brother, John Jr. The abuse only got worse. At home, his father would take his frustrations out on Nick and tell him what a bad job he did at helping. The boy was happy that he didn't have to help for a long time, because his mandatory training soon started and took him away from most of the abuse. He had a hard time dealing with superiors and their harsh techniques because they would remind him of the abuse.
The only positive memories he has of this time, is playing the piano with his mother. She shared her love for music with him, something he, to this day, still enjoys. He's a big music enthusiast and plays a couple of instruments.
As an adult, he didn't struggle much with the abuse from his past. At 18, after he got back from mandatory training, he got into a fistfight with his father and broke the man's nose. After that, his father threw him out of the house. Nick, who wasn't planning on returning home, didn't mind. He wasn't shunned from the family, but he simply wasn't welcome in the manor anymore. John was also finding it increasingly difficult to keep up the act, and people started to notice the man was an alcoholic. It affected his business, and eventually, the man drank himself to death. So at 25, Nicholas and the family were finally free from their abuser.
When his father died, he inherited the ship company. His older brother was a soldier and wasn't planning on a career change, so Nicholas decided to step up. The Beaumont company was a well known and well established company. They loaned out boats for trips over seas, did business with other ports and kingdoms and we're generally known as the big company that had existed for many generations.

At 32, he met Indira Beaumont . The coven of the Twofold Goddess had organised another Ver festival, and Nicholas had decided to attend. It was there that he noticed a beautiful woman, who was making her wreath, when she exclaimed because she had accidentally dropped her wreath from the docks into the water before it was done. Nick wasn't sure why, although he would later attribute it to love at first sight, but he jumped into the sea to retrieve Indira's wreath. He returned it to her, with a smile and some kind words. It would be the start of a beautiful love story, and the wreath had fulfilled its purpose, in an unexpected way.
The Beaumonts were lucky enough that John's alcoholism hadn't put a stain on their name. They were a well established and rich family, and people were willing to look past John, as a member of the family. Nicholas was very happy that her family approved of his relationship with Indira, and his own mother was over the moon as well. She loved Indira, and she was happy that the Beaumonts name would be associated with another very big and important family.
Nicholas and Indira were a very happy couple. They would go on trips, Nick supported Indira through everything, and was her biggest supporter. Nick was excited to have children with his beautiful wife, but the closer they came to Jovi's due date, the more nervous and stressed Nicholas became. A few weeks before her birth, he had a mental breakdown that caused his genetic predisposition for BPD to come out. He was a completely different person. His moods switched faster than the weather, he was annoyed a lot, then suddenly affectionate again. He was too afraid of becoming like his father, and he left. He told Indira he couldn't do it, and he left.
