Name: Hadrian Tiresias Usher
Birth Season: Summer
Occupation: Naval Capitan
Citizen Status: Noble
Weight: 188 lbs
Body Description: Hadrian can be described as ruggedly handsome. He is tall and muscular, physique sculpted by both training and the difficult labor of life on the sea. His skin has a tanned, worn quality to it - likely from too much time spent out of doors in the salt air. Hadrian trims his beard every time he comes ashore, so while he usually has one his length is indicative of how long he’s been at sea. His curly dark hair is streaked with gray, as is his beard. One of his most notable features is a scar from a skirmish with Coheed starting at the top of his forehead running straight through his right eye, down his cheek, to stop at his chin.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Reputation: Hadrian has always relied heavily on his charisma to navigate the world. As naval capitan, it has been a huge asset. His natural gravitas allows him to effortlessly command a room, while his affable manner makes him a friend and mentor to all that serve under him. As a leader, Hadrian relies on strong interpersonal relationships rather than the rigidity of a command structure. This approach has frustrated some career military officers, who think Hadrian’s relationships with those under his command to be too casual. But the proof is in the pudding: the unshakable loyalty of Hadrian’s men and the community-oriented culture of the fleet have made Nevermere’s navy stronger than ever before.
Hadrian is incredibly stubborn. He is slow to admit that he’s wrong and believes his way is the best way. While ultimately he will not disobey a direct order, he has been known to be argumentative or challenge it at the outset if he disagrees. His close relationship with Logan has given him some latitude to express his opinions freely. While there is some friendly competition that exists between the two of them, Hadrian would follow Logan through fire. His loyalty and respect for Logan are boundless, a man who he considers his commander, dear friend, and brother.
While he is beloved by the soldiers under his command, his reputation elsewhere is mixed. Noblemen in particular think he is nothing but a cocky Casanova with an oversized ego. At least one of those things is true. Despite his age, Hadrian has never married yet still has a very active love life. He is open about the fact he never intends to marry. He doesn’t want to force a wife to wait for him at home while he goes off adventuring at sea.
In his darker moments, Hadrian has been known to have a temper, and a tendency towards bouts of severe depression. He is a high-functioning alcoholic, mostly to cope with the tragic loss of his sister and his memories of that night when his ship capsized. As a young man, he was something of a party animal, though his rambunctious behavior calmed down considerably after his niece, Valeria, became his ward. She is the center of his entire world. The two have a very close, loving relationship, and he supports her in whatever she sets her mind to.
Combat Experience: As the Ushers were lesser nobles, the military presented the perfect opportunity for Hadiran to climb the social ladder. His father understood this, and started Hadrian’s training from the time he could first hold a sword. Hadrian’s competitive spirit has pushed him towards success, as well as his genuine desire to be the best soldier he can be - for the sake of his men, country and commander.
He was always drawn to the wildness and adventure of the sea. Once his mandatory military service was complete, he joined the navy and learned everything he could about navigation and maritime combat. There are few people who know more about defending Nevermere’s coasts than Hadrian. This kind of specialized skill has allowed him to become an essential asset.
Hadrian was with Logan when their naval patrol encountered a Coheed ship. They offered warnings and opportunities for them to turn back, but the Coheedsmen refused. Hadrian fought off Coheed warriors who boarded their vessel while Logan maintained command of the ship. At one point, he intercepted a Coheed warrior who tried to kill Logan - narrowly saving Logan’s life. Hadrian still bears a scar from the encounter. He bears it as a mark of honor, a reminder of his loyalty to Logan.
Shortly after Logan became Captain Commander, a smaller patrol ship Hadrian was on with the Naval Captain at the time was caught in a terrible storm. The ship capsized, forcing the survivors to try and stay afloat until the storm passed and a ship could be dispatched for rescue. Even once the storm cleared, the survivors had to endure hours of darkness in the open sea while they awaited rescue. Many men who did not drown were eaten by sharks and other creatures of the deep - some while they were still alive. Among those killed was the former Naval Captain of Nevermere. Hadrian and a handful of men were lucky enough to escape with their lives.
Given his expertise, Hadrian took over for the fallen naval capitan under Logan’s command. Initially there were some accusations of favoritism due to Logan and Hadrian’s close relationship. But those accusations proved hollow as Hadrian proved to be a more than capable soldier and leader.
His weapon of choice is either a single or dual-wielded scimitar(s).

Family: Silvius Usher (father, deceased) | Talia Usher (mother, deceased) | Ora Usher (twin sister, deceased) | Valeria Usher, 17 - almost 18 (niece/"daughter")
Hadrian was born to a family of lesser nobles with aspirations to rise beyond their station. Determined to have his children rise beyond their station, Hadrian’s father Silvius did everything he could to see they were set up for success. He had two children; the boy, Hadrian, he pushed towards a military career while his daughter, Ora, he sought to set up for a favorable marriage. Though Silvius loved his children, his approach to fatherhood was one of strict discipline with a failure-is-not-an-option attitude. This approach worked well with Hadrian. He excelled in his combat training and joined the military as soon as he was able.
Focused on ensuring their success, neither Silvius or Talia were particularly loving parents. But it didn’t matter. Ora and Hadiran had each other. They were as close as siblings can be, with the kind of almost telepathic connection that can only exist between twins. From the time they were very young, Ora had a paralyzing stutter. It made her reluctant to speak, as it took her more time to express herself than people had patience for. Hadrian became her way of communicating with the world. When other children were cruel, Hadrian would always come to her defense - with fists if they were called for. With practice and the support of her brother, Ora’s stutter improved, but her timid and sensitive nature made it difficult for her to make friends or go to social functions. But Hadrian always included her in everything, making sure she was never left sitting at home even if she just was silently glued to his side.
When the Rainecourt king took the throne, the Ushers situated themselves as loyalists. Hadrian trained and rose alongside his best friend, Logan Delaney, finding success at almost every turn. Ora was less successful, her parents failing again and again to find her a suitable match. Ora would just become tongue-tied, and with no real wealth or significant titles to her name, the noblemen of Nevermere showed little interest.
Ora was largely a fly on the wall, saying very little, though there was one man who always showed her kindness. She fell madly in love with Logan Delaney, Hadrian’s best friend, though she was always too afraid to do anything about it. Hadrian knew of Ora’s crush on Logan. Time and again he offered to broach the subject, even ask Logan if he'd want her hand in marriage - but Ora always declined. When Logan’s family arranged a marriage for him, Ora was secretly devastated.
When they grew older and Hadrian continued to excel in the military, it became more and more difficult for Ora to be part of every aspect of Hadrian’s life. Ora took to potions for solace, healing the sick and poor of Nevermere when she could. At 22, she met a married commoner who took an interest in her. Naïve and easily swayed, she started to have an affair with him which resulted in a pregnancy. The father disappeared, nowhere to be found, and Ora died in childbirth.
Hadrian took in Valeria, her daughter, as his own. He raised her as best as he could while continuing his military career - getting her the best tutors and training he could provide. Even though Hadrian was away much of the time, forcing Valeria to be independent, they have a close, loving relationship. Valeria idolizes Hadrian, who she calls her father, and intends to join the navy when she turns 18 in the fall and serve under his command.
