The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

"She what?" Ness asked, wide eyed, mouth agape, sorrow heavily lacing her tone. She was accustomed to her sister-in-law being here, but the servant was informing her that she had gone to Nevermere with a packed bag. The children were still present, so surely she wasn't going for long? Surely? For some reason, Ness had a bad feeling.

Akagi was in his workshop attending to collecting the few things he could supply to Ellora as per their agreement, he hadn't been aware that his Felita had departed from the palace much less Arynn Frey. In fact per their last talk not long ago things were fine, she had said as much that she was just tired. Being the dutiful husband he still tried since then to rectify anything and everything to make her less tired and happy. He even had been planning a trip for just the two of them.
He was cataloging his soul gems when his sister would find him.
Ness came to a stop outside of Akagi's workshop. Of course he was in there. Her brothers both loved to create objects, as did Ness herself, so she shouldn't expect anything otherwise. She wanted to give him the privacy to be working on something she shouldn't know about and to still not know about it after encountering him, so she knocked, counted to three, and then burst into his space.
"BRO!" She shouted, something like anger in her tone but her small frame and high pitched voice made it comical. Also, she was almost never sincerely mad. "Why are you tinkering around in here when your wife and my favorite person in this castle is gone?"

The startling sudden knock had Akagi dropping a few of his soul gems, but his trained reflexes and Peacekeeper aptitude helped him catch three of the four gems, one in his left hand, one in his right hand behind his back, and the third he kneed back into the air catching it against his chest. The fourth hit the floor and rolled away towards Ness. Dear sweet Ness.
However his face twisted into confusion, "Gone? What do you mean? Felita just got back not long ago, and the children?" he sat the gems down abandoning them for the moment, the usual jovial face of Akagi was replaced with a hard furrowed brow line and a worry on his mouth that sat between a scowl and hurt, "....what am I doing wrong...," he mumbled but Ness would still hear it.
Ness charged towards him, looking around for something to slap him upside the head with, but as the drew nearer she saw the hurt and confusion on his face, heard it in his voice, and she softened.
"You didn't know?" So then, she ran away. Ness couldn't understand it. Akagi was one of the most patient, kind people that Ness knew. "The children are all here. Only she is..." she fell silent, eyes growing large with empathy. Her hand reached out to rest on his forearm if he allowed it.
"Maybe this isn't about right or wrong." Her voice was quiet and tender. "Maybe this is more personal and has nothing to do with you."

Akagi listened to his sweet sister, he didn't flinch or recoil when she touched his arm, but even though her words made sense and he understood it still wounded him deeply. A long deep sigh escaped him as he looked at his sister with sad glazed eyes, "How do I help her? Since Kato's birth she's been different, distant and sad," he had felt it too, their souls were entwined and they felt each other, he had felt it.
"Ness I love her and all I've ever wanted was to keep her happy and her spirit full, so if it isn't me...surely not Kato, he's a little bundle of joy."
Ness was not experienced in the things of the world, but she'd read books. Thousands of books, actually. Something Akagi said made her eyes grow larger.
"Darkness of spirit." She said it as if it was the answer, the only possible explanation. "She just had a child. Sometimes in the aftermath of that sort of life-changing event women have been known to have a darkness of spirit that is otherwise unexplained."

Akagi mouthed 'darkness of spirit' and wouldn't pretend he knew the term because he didn't, but hearing the word made him more worried than before. The enchanted notepad and pen on his nearly organized desk jotted down the phrase as Akagi crossed his arms now looking at his book smart sister, "This darkness of spirit surely there is a cure or a work around to get rid of it? And if her spirit is afflicted how come I only feel so little of it? We are bound, our souls, I should know right?"
