The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

As Akagi Llewellyn had asked of him, Keion requested a meeting with the Queen so that he could inform her of the dealings with the rogue enchanter in Coheed. He had already spent time crafting his story for the Queen in a way that left out the Prince's involvement and felt confident about it. He was also quite interested to see how the Queen would react when she heard who, exactly, the rogue enchanter had been.
He stood quietly in the Palace, waiting for one of the Queen's people to come and tell him the Queen was ready. He had insisted it was urgent news and hoped she would see him quickly.

Kimora waited in the throne room. Perhaps unsurprisingly, since establishing herself as an absolute monarch, she had found herself to be almost constantly busy. Kite and those most faithful to her helped as much as they could of course but the weight of responsibility was one which couldn't be lifted from her shoulders entirely, if only because she wouldn't allow it.
Her enchanted teapot had already brewed some tea just in case but she was rather hoping that this would be a quick and routine meeting that would allow her to tend to the many other appointments that she had to keep today.
She would none the less present Keion with that well practiced and rarely sincere smile required so often of her. "Mr. Blackwood, always a pleasure. You wished to speak with me?" Pleasant though her tone might have seemed, there was a message to be found letting him know that whatever had caused him to ask for this audience, he had better not waste too much time in telling her.
Finding himself standing in front of the Queen's throne, Keion cut a deep bow to show his respect before flashing a friendly smile at Kimora. "Queen Kimora, thank you for making the time to speak with me. The news I have is both important and also quite unfortunate."
He sighed, his smile dropping into a frown as he clasped his hands behind his back. "The Peacekeepers were informed recently of a rogue Arynnite enchanter within the lands of Coheed who had supposedly been supplying them with enchanted items. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how concerning of a situation that would be. So we armed a small band of soldiers with cloaking enchants and sent them in to Coheed to investigate and figure out if this rumor was true or not."
He grimaced and shook his head back and forth, "Well, they did in fact find a rogue enchanter. Councilwoman Ellora Roquefort, of all people. And although our soldiers tried to bring her in quietly so we could interrogate her, she became quite belligerent and was shouting some nonsense about being a free woman of Coheed. Unfortunately she attacked and our soldiers were forced to defend themselves and Miss Roquefort did not survive the fight. The soldiers only had time to search her small home before they had to portal back out. They said they found nothing of interest, only this ring."
He pulled the ring from his pocket then, offering it to one of the Queen's servants to bring to her throne so that she could see what was clearly a Roquefort family ring. "I regret that we did not send some of our older soldiers on this mission, ones who would have recognized her name and perhaps handled things differently."

Kimora wasn't entirely sure what she had been expecting. Likely something rather more trivial and boring to do with organizing the palace guard or a parade. So to say that she was surprised when she found herself presented with such a... Words failed her. That smile which she'd spent a lifetime perfecting, fake though it might have been, vanished suddenly, erased to give way for a perhaps surprisingly transparent and certainly uncharacteristic look of shock. She wouldn't interrupt throughout the entire tale, partly because she found herself unable to process things properly in order to do so.
Finally, when he was finished with his explanations, there was only one thing that Kimora could think to say: "What?" There was a cutting harshness to her tone, one which made the anger behind it clear.
Ellora Roquefort had vanished some time ago and the queen would otherwise have celebrated her death, especially when she was found in such a compromising position which should have caused her to lose any/all support that she might still have had left.
As much as the events themselves were unprecedented and in their own way outrageous, that wasn't what truly upset the queen. "On whose orders were they there in the first place?! Why wasn't I made aware of this?!" Kimora hadn't known. There had been no warnings, discussions or even a "by the way...". This was the first that she had heard of it. Initially, she was inclined to summon the Minister of War or the Minister of the Interior or both to get to the bottom of the matter and punish those who had gone behind her back. Instead, she opted to wait for Keion to explain himself, for there had better be some good excuses.
Keion didn't flinch away from the harsh tone Kimora directed towards him, though he did maintain his regretful expression. He had expected her reaction. Obviously, if Akagi had wanted his name kept out of the details, he hadn't bothered to inform his mother of his expedition or the reason behind it in the first place. And then he had sent Keion into the hornets nest as his messenger.
But it was fine, because Keion planned to use this to his advantage. He allowed a bit of confusion to cross his features, "The orders originally came from your Minister of Internal Affairs, my brother Cyrus. I had assumed you at least knew of the possibility of a rogue enchanter in Coheed."
He paused for a moment before continuing, bringing his hand up to rub at his chin. "I do beg your pardon for the confusion, Your Majesty, but I am only here as a messenger, at Cyrus's request as well. If you truly had no knowledge of the situation before this, I can only imagine they wanted to confirm the details of it before bothering you with them. You are quite busy, after all. And they could not have known that the outcome would be so... disastrous."

Kimora was capable of dominating her shake comparatively quickly. By the time that it had taken for Keion to open his mouth and begin his explanations, the queen was already ten steps ahead, planning and, more importantly, engaging damage control. This was going to be a tricky one and certainly it wasn't a situation that she was going to allow to fester in silence in the hopes that it would either go away or go unnoticed.
For all that the woman listened, hoping and silently praying that there might be some other element that would somehow alleviate the situation or at the very least provide a few new possibilities for getting themselves out of it. At the very least, she had some one to blame. "Of course I knew." Kimora responded harshly. "I ordered an inquiry into it years ago! An inquiry does not mean sending a military force into another nation to arrest someone under their protection."
The queen took a few steps away, doing all that she could to calm herself even somewhat and keep her voice level. "Send for your brother and any others who were involved with this. I want the names of all of the Peacekeepers. I suggest that nothing be omitted because you have my word that I will eventually find out!"
Keion scratched at his chin before crossing his arms behind his back and bowing his head. "Cyrus is in Nevermere at the moment on some family business, but I will send word for him to return right away. Once he is home, we will gather the Peacekeepers and bring them before you. I'm sure he will have a better explanation for you. It does seem as if this has become quite the disaster."
He huffed a breath, a deep frown on his face. "I will leave at once to send word to Cyrus, Your Majesty, if I may be excused."

Kimora had regained control of herself from the momentary lapse earlier but that still didn't mean that she was anywhere near happy. She would never be about this situation which was a frustration in and of itself as the death of her enemy was something which should truly have been celebrated and usually would have been. Whoever was responsible for this' blundering had robbed her of that satisfaction.
It was all water under the bridge now. What was important was ensuring that the matter was dealt with properly.
The queen would nod only once, curtly. "Good." She spoke dryly. "See to it that it is a matter of top priority."
Keion cut a quick but polite bow. "Of course, Queen Llewellyn. I will see it done as quickly as possible."
He left the room then, maintaining his look of concern until he was well out of the palace and on his way to the Blackwood Estate, where his face would fall into a look of contemplation. There was certainly much to be done, and perhaps one of the first was a trip to Coheed.
