ARYNN FREY HISTORY
Once, long ago, Arynn Frey was ruled by an absolute monarchy. It had enchanting magic even then, but few were well-learned in the way because of the extensive time and dedication required to be proficient at the craft. They had ranks within their society, and there were class distinctions based on income. It took a particularly terrible war involving Coheed, Lorendale, and Dresmond for Arynn Frey to make a change. They knew their magic would set them apart from the other kingdoms from a power standpoint, but they also knew that as long as they were busy farming and training men and women to swing swords that they couldn't hone their enchanting abilities as well as they needed to. The monarch at the time resisted the leading scholars' encouragement to shift the kingdom's focus; it came to a point where the scholars banded together and, through rhetoric and even coercion, convinced the king to reorder the kingdom's power structure and to place the true decision-making power into the hands of the scholars.
There were five of them, and they made relatively quick work of changing systems within Arynn Frey, always backing their decisions with reason. Reason became the god of the kingdom's citizens. Any decision, with explanation, became acceptable, such as the decision to begin taking prisoners of war. By taking prisoners and using them as slaves in the work force to perform tasks such as farming, cooking, cleaning, and the like, citizens of Arynn Frey could refocus their superior minds on the advancement of enchanting magic. They began to create objects that could do things that shattered the trajectory of warfare. By amassing more slaves, the citizens of Arynn Frey became free. Free to study and grow, and free from war, as their enemies were beaten back.
These changes took place over 500 years ago. The last time Arynn Frey engaged in warfare was 200 years ago. Though they inevitably still wind up in silly battles with Coheed (that are typically ended quickly), they have seen peace with Lorendale and Dresmond for some time.
Though the scholars successfully changed the government of Arynn Frey, the royal family was never satisfied. For hundreds of years they plotted their return to power. One by one, the seats of the Council of Five became tragically and mysteriously emptied. Then, in Autumna 65, 820, with the military backing of Nevermere, Kimora Llewellyn successfully reclaimed political power in Arynn Frey. An Alliance between Nevermere and Arynn Frey was formed, and an entirely new governing system was established.
