ARYNN FREY'S SOCIETY
VALUES
Citizens of Arynn Frey value reason above all else, and with reason come wisdom and knowledge, which are used to bolster reason. Everyone learns in an academic setting without exception, as education is free and prized as greater than any gold. They do not capitalize on physical prowess, but on the ability of the mind. They make no age or sex distinction, but instead rank people according to ability to bring wisdom from the mind into spoken reason. Normally the older are wiser, but even wise children are listened to, and praised rather than considered impertinent. There are no conversations or thoughts that are off limits; no taboo subjects, no things that citizens simply do not speak of. Any idea can be discussed, and no one can be criminalized for simply musing aloud.
MATURITY
In Arynn Frey there is no official age of maturity or adulthood. All individuals are expected to conduct themselves with self-control and reasonable speech, from the youngest to the oldest. Childhood is not something celebrated or encouraged. In general, in regards to puberty and maturing, young men and women do not go through the hormonal change until 16; their growth is considered finished by 30. Therefore, it is very natural for a fifty-year-old citizen of Arynn Frey to look like a thirty-year-old citizen of Lorendale or Coheed. GENDER ROLES
Arynn Frey makes no distinction between male and female. There are no opportunities afforded one that the other cannot attain, though pregnancy inevitably sets them apart.OCCUPATION
The kingdom of Arynn Frey functions like a communist society; citizens are given their homes and their general needs are provided for by the government, and the government has the means to provide for its people because of the work of its slaves. These slaves are not citizens of Arynn Frey, but prisoners of war from the other kingdoms who are fed, bred, and occupy all of the hard labor jobs so that those of Arynn Frey don't have to. Slaves are owned and managed by the state, not individual households. They arrive at appointed hours to perform appointed tasks in personal residences, businesses, and places of government. Once their work is concluded, they return to designated quarters, disappearing entirely from the view and minds of those who live and work in Arynn Frey. If anyone cared to look, they would notice slaves from their white-robed attire. This silent workforce has become such a constant backdrop in Arynnite society, that few ever notice them at all. Thus, most citizens of Arynn Frey are scholars on a path to discover new heights of knowledge in their fields of interest, or else, if they have chosen a trade, they are the expert in what they do. There are also those who manage the slaves, known as Slavemasters. There is no currency, and instead the people are paid by the sense of satisfaction they get when fulfilling their passion; the concept of wealth (and monetary greed) is a fleeting, powerless thing in AF.SLAVES
The slaves of Arynn Frey are branded like cattle and dress in white robes to set them apart. The slaves are to do their best to keep from being seen. They dine and sleep underground, away from citizens of Arynn Frey, and they do their work quickly and quietly. Slaves do all the labor jobs that are not convenient for citizens, such as farming, blacksmithing, cleaning, cooking, and so on. They all wear silver collars that are enchanted and connected to Slavemaster Rings, which allows the wearer to immobilize the body of the slaves. Each Slavemaster's ring controls twenty to fifty slaves. * Arynn Frey slaves are all NPCs. CITIZEN STATUS
There is no rank system for citizens of Arynn Frey. All are equal with the exception of the council and royal family. A member of the council's citizen rank would be 'Aristocrat'. Any one of the royal family would be 'Royalty'. All citizens are otherwise labeled 'citizen'.STANDARDS OF LIVING
Every Arynnite enjoys a comfortable life in which all their needs are provided for. You’ll find no slums or squalor—only clean streets and well-maintained houses. Every family has a modest home with room to spare. Showy possessions and outward displays of wealth are uncommon in Arynn Frey, as material wealth is not a demonstration of status. With the exception of the royal family, there are no significant variations in wealth from family to family. Older, more established families (particularly those who held more prominent positions before the instillation of the Council of Five) have generational wealth, but ordinarily don’t make a show of it.LIFE EXPECTANCY
As the kingdom of Arynn Frey and its people are generally cleanly and careful, the citizens of the kingdom most commonly die of old age. Old age in Arynn Frey is not what it is for the other kingdoms. They age more slowly than the rest, resulting in a death of old age to be at about 150 years old. FUNERALS
After an Arynnite’s death, the body is cleaned, dressed, and preserved before it is displayed in a special funeral hall in their casket. There is a three day visitation period in which friends and family can come and pay their respects before the ceremony. At the funeral ceremony, the casket is sealed and placed in the family mausoleum.TECHNOLOGY
The citizens of Arynn Frey have the capacity to possess advanced mechanical technology, but they choose a life of simplicity and instead rely on the technological advances that their enchanting magic brings them. Their enchantments give them indoor plumbing, running water, and more conveniences unheard of in other kingdoms. In general, liken their technological feats to that of the ancient Greek, but with a magical twist.LAND
Arynn Frey is on the east coast of Terra Nova and its lands are a combination of beaches and grassy plains. The capital city, Elyusian, sits on the north coast. There are only two other cities in all of Arynn Frey, and they are Faanor (central) and Illianar (south). See map.RELATIVE ERA
