SOCIETY & CULTURE IN CAMBRIA
VALUES
Citizens of Cambria value strength above all else. It was strength that got them out of slavery to Coheed, and strength that has sustained them thus far. All women are expected to be strong, which is why every single woman of Cambria is a trained warrior. Screaming and crying are not things anyone in Cambria makes a habit of doing. The fear of returning to Coheed to be cattle once more drives them to live and train like Spartans. MATURITY
The age of maturity in Cambria is when a woman gets her first blood. When Cambrian women reach maturity and get their first blood, they meet with the Witch Doctor for a private ceremony called “First Rites.” Afterwards she is expected--but not forced, never forced--to go to Coheed and take a man in order to give back to all that Cambria had given her by way of a child. There is no ceremony to prove her maturity or decide where she will go in life. All women have been training as warriors from childhood, and once they reach maturity they have the freedom to choose their path in life, as long as it is a strong one.Additional details on Cambrian Spirituality here
GENDER ROLES
There are no gender roles because they are only women. Within being women they have choices; a woman can choose to mother her own daughter(s), or she can choose not to. She can choose to focus her efforts--on the side of being a warrior--on whatever she wishes without shame. Concerning homosexuality, it is not seen as unnatural. The women of Cambria desire companionship like anyone. Women often take other women as temporary or permanent partners, either in romantic or platonic relationships. What she does with her body is completely her choice and there is no shame.
OCCUPATION
All women in Cambria are trained warriors, so that is not any of their occupations. They do anything and everything for the good of the kingdom, as there are no wages and their work is a deeply personal way to help one another. Most of them share duties so that they might have time for leisure. Occupations include things like blacksmiths, nursemaids, carpenters, weavers, stonemasons, scouts/patrol, etc, all the things required to keep things running. There is still gold, of course, but it comes from Coheed and is earned through extracurricular activities or trades that surpass their day-to-day contributions to society.CITIZEN STATUS
Citizen status within Cambria is rather simple. A woman is either the Chieftess, a warrior, an elder, or the Witch Doctor. There is only one Witch Doctor in Cambria.*As of hiems 821 (see history), the roles of Witch Doctor and Chieftess have been merged into one role: Priestess.
STANDARD OF LIVING
Cambrian society is egalitarian. Cambrians do not live a lives of material luxury, nor do they care to. They have more than enough to live comfortably. Their valuable material possessions are not made of gold or encrusted with jewels. Instead, they have carefully maintained weapons and ornaments crafted from natural materials. LIFE EXPECTANCY
The women of Cambria are known to have extremely long lives--over twice as long as the women of Coheed, as if their freedom combined with the mountain air leads to slower aging. Cambria women die of old age at about ninety-five to one-hundred years old. Cambria women also age more slowly, so they look younger than Lorendale/Coheed women even if they are the same age.FUNERALS
Traditionally, funerary ceremonies were overseen by the witch doctor, but are now conducted by the priestess. If circumstances allow, the priestess gives last rites to the Cambrian as they pass on to the ancestral plane. At the ceremony, their bodies are burned on a pyre as the priestess utters words in the ancient tongue. Ceremonies are solemn but not somber. Though their sisters will be missed, Cambirans take solace in the fact they are joining the ancestors that came before them.TECHNOLOGY
When it comes to technology, liken Cambria to Vikings. Their buildings are typically made of wood and their general lifestyle is rather crude.LAND
Cambria is nestled in the northeastern part of Terra Nova, sitting in a valley within the shade of a great mountain range. See map.RELATIVE ERA
Viking with an African tribal spin. Women of Cambria do not burden themselves with excessive clothing; in fact, they wear very little from day to day. Most of their outfits consist of fur. The women also enjoy adorning their body, typically with war paint and tattoos.
