[for Zevran ]
In the almost two years since he had enlisted as a soldier, Ber had seen many groups of teenagers working through the various stages of their mandatory six years of training and service. He’d even helped provide demonstrations for some of their training sessions, usually those that involved the younger kids who watched with wide eyes as he played sparring partner to their instructor. He’d practiced with people of varying levels of skill and comfort. And, of course, he himself had been on the receiving end of six years of very thorough lessons on how to use a sword and shield. So, in theory, he should know how to teach someone the fundamentals of fighting.
In practice, he had no idea what he was doing.
It didn’t really help that he wasn’t entirely sure what Zevran wanted to learn. He’d grabbed a pair of practice swords and shields, just in case, but given that the other man was somewhat familiar with daggers, there was the possibility that he would be interested in working with those instead. Or, maybe, hand to hand combat. Or archery, though Ber thought he was definitely the wrong person to be asking for guidance when it came to that. The convenient thing about the military wing, however, was that it was all there, and it would be easy enough to move around as needed.
“Hey,” He said to the Dresmondi in question, raising a hand in greeting when he saw the other man. His gaze flitted down to the fox. “Hi Rune.” Briefly, Ber wondered how Zevran could use her magic to assist him in close combat and thought that might be worth experimenting with as well. Looking back up, he glanced around the mostly empty courtyard with a shrug. “We can head out to the outskirts of the city if you want, but it seemed just as easy to meet here and save us the walk. Might end up with an audience though.” Especially if the Dresmondi and his dyr started using their magic. In an effort to avoid garnering too much attention, because Ber himself was uncomfortable with too many eyes on him, he had settled on a small offshoot of the training grounds, tucked away out of immediate line of sight from the main thoroughfares. Though, he realized as his eyes found the Dresmondi’s two shadows, their activities wouldn’t go entirely unnoticed. Ber turned back to Zevran. “You know what you want to do today?”
