ELODIE ATWOOD
GENERAL
Age: Twenty
Birth Season: Winter
Occupation:
Kingdom: Nevermere
Citizen Status: Noble
PHYSICAL
Weight: 115 lbs
Body Description: Elodie is everything a Nevermerean noblewoman should be. Every curve of her body is soft and smooth, every strand of her hair tucked neatly in place. Though her gowns are modest in design, she favors rich, eye-catching colors and flashy accessories. Even though she’s seen more in a military uniform nowadays, she finds little ways to give her Nevermerean navy a feminine touch (though she’s been disciplined for breaking dress code from time to time because of it).
PERSONAL
Service. No matter one’s occupation, station, or class, everyone has an obligation to serve their kingdom and its people. No contribution should be treated as unworthy; a mother may contribute by raising children who will carry on the family legacy with honor, a soldier may contribute by fighting wars overseas, and a humble shopkeeper might contribute by keeping their prices fair and their products of the utmost quality.
Integrity. One’s intentions are just as important as their actions. Known or unknown, one’s character is defined by their motivations just as much as their actions. Like a careful gardener, pruning undesirable thoughts with discipline and attention creates fertile ground for a beautiful garden in one’s mind and spirit.
Poise. Women are not inferior to men, simply different in their obligations and sensibilities. A true Nevermerean lady—one with a sparkling wit that conducts herself with refinement and grace—is truly a sight to behold. To preserve this ideal, women should not shed their femininity and behave as men do. No matter one’s occupation or the surroundings they find themselves in, a lady should be well-groomed, generous of spirit, and mindful of her manners.
Aspirations/Ambitions: Elodie’s aspiration is simple: make her family proud. Whether through her service in the military or an advantageous marriage, Elodie wants to do her part to carry on the family legacy. She wants to achieve—not for her own benefit, but for that of her family and kingdom.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Reputation: Throughout her life, Elodie has striven to embody the values above, and for the most part, has been successful in doing so. But like any witch, Elodie has a inclination toward darkness that leads her astray. Living a life of luxury has made her fond of material possessions with little concept of what it means to go without. She likes to be looked at, admired, praised, and fawned over by suitors, tutors, and family friends alike. Additionally, as much she tries to fight it, Elodie tends towards pettiness. Little slights are countered with little acts of revenge, however subtle they may be.
Despite these failings, Elodie is a bright and curious woman who has the rare ability to light up any room she enters. She is a natural conversationalist, and has no trouble chatting with people of any walk of life with genuine curiosity. There is a carefree confidence about her that immediately puts people at ease. When she looks at you, Elodie can make you feel like you're the only person that matters in the whole entire world.
Within the noble circles in Skia, Elodie is considered an up-and-coming, promising young woman; a great beauty, and a prize for any young nobleman to snag. Her decision to stall such a match and join the military instead is seen as perplexing, but no doubt she will abandon the pursuit soon. After all, Elodie is a stubborn and - dare it be said - spoiled little thing. This fleeting adventure will run its course in due time.
Combat Experience: Elodie completed Nevermere’s mandatory training at eighteen, demonstrating neither exceptional nor inferior skill. She favors the rapier but is also proficient with ranged weapons.
MAGIC
HISTORY
Corrin Atwood and Demelza Carthew were a good match in theory, but a strange one in practice. Both came from high-ranking noble families. Corrin had made a name for himself in the military fighting against Coheed before an injury forced him to retire. Though a little older than marriageable age and not particularly attractive, he inherited a great fortune from his father at his passing which made him quite the catch for any young noblewoman.
The Carthew family may not among the most wealthy, but their name is as old as Nevermere itself. The Carthews have a long line of elder witches that extends back centuries. Though they remain Ellis loyalists to this day (Demelza's mother included), they keep these opinions to themselves. At seventeen, Demelza Carthew's beauty made it possible for her to marry far above her current station. Corrin was seen as the most advantageous match, and a bargain was struck for her hand.
For Corrin’s part, it was love at first sight. Upon seeing her husband, Demelza wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about the match. But in their weeks of courting and first months of marriage, Demelza discovered that beneath Corrin’s unslightly exterior was a man who was gentle, doting, and kind. Before long, the two were inseparable and, by all accounts, madly in love. A year into their marriage they had their first child, Cedric. After a number of difficult pregnancies that did not come to term, five years later, they welcomed their daughter Elodie into the world.
Elodie (who thankfully favored her mother in looks) was a bright, precocious child. Growing up, she had every advantage and possession a child could dream of, including her parents' unyielding love and support. Her brother Cedric completed his mandatory training and immediately enlisted in Nevermere’s military, following in his father’s footsteps. Several years into his service, Cedric fell ill and died of a fever that had spread through his unit. All of eighteen, Elodie wept over her brother for months, but ultimately decided the best way to honor his legacy was to dedicate herself to her studies.
When her mandatory training was complete, Elodie was sent to a two-year finishing school for ladies, where she was to receive further education in witchcraft and all the skills a fine lady should possess. She studied not only curses and potions, but how to host dinners, paint, and sing - all things that would no doubt attract the perfect match.
After completing her schooling, she returned to Skia. Just as her parents started the search for suitors, Elodie made a decision that surprised them all. When the captain commander put out a call for recruits, Elodie answered. Her father suspected it was a way for her to stay connected to her late brother. Her mother decided it was just another one of her bull-headed ideas that she’d abandon in a few years’ time. Whatever Elodie’s reasons were, her parents quickly discovered there was no talking her out of it. She was joining the forces, trading in her silken gowns for military blues, and glistening ballrooms for military barracks.
