The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Shu had been on his nerves today. Her constant pestering through the meeting had given him the beginnings of a headache. He was new to all this and was an outsider as well. Siraj was under massive pressure. Being one of the few Dresmondi who had found some rank in this new system. He felt he was one of the few who had the will to try and make some change for his people. They had lost so much over the past few years. Most had laid down and accepted their place at the bottom. It brought him sorrow to think how free they once were and to be as caged as they are now.
Shu felt it, she was a buzz in his mind with her constant quips and jabs at the others in the room. The ‘Hallow ones’ as she put it. ‘You have to let me do my…’ he had started before Shu interrupted. ‘the people starve in the streets while you play nice with these empty people!’ she shot at him, as she buzzed around his head in circles.
‘I am doing what I must to help those…’ he started again before being cut off. ‘You play their game like a dog…’
“THATS ENOUGH!” Siraj shouted, not noticing it was not in his mind to Shu but aloud. A few servants glanced at him before they ran off in a hurry. Siraj stiffened as he realized he had shouted in what was considered the royal estate. It wouldn’t take much to anger an Eldouir, their ire was as swift as the wind. Shu in her alarm had shot off to land on a statue. Watching him closely, he could feel her hurt. He had never yelled at her in anger. He was rarely angry in the days before. The stress he felt, she felt, they all felt was boiling over more in private as of late. Looking out at the evening sky, he sighed as he leaned against the wall to gather his thoughts.

Elena had just come from a rigorous training session in which she'd pushed herself both magically and physically than she had for a while. She would not be left behind when the time came for battle and she certainly wouldn't be among the weakest of the Eldouirs. Not that she ever had considered to be that lowly. Her thick curly hair was pulled up in a high pony tail that bounced as she walked, her skin was beaded with sweat, and her breath was still short as she moved through the halls.
She was lost in her own thoughts when she suddenly was caught of guard by a random shout. 'That's enough!' It startled her, making her already fast beating heart jump up another notch. She saw the small bird fly away from the shouting man and while others skittered away from him, it wasn't hard for Elena to put two and two together. "She say something that pissed you off?" Elena asked casually, looking up to the bird with a little, assuming the gender of the dyr just based of the statistic that they were usually the opposite of their dresmondi.
Siraj had been lost in thought when the woman had approached him. He heard the steps an they did not seem heavy. Nor did the steps come along with the sound of armor. He gave a sigh his eyes closed trying to wish the headache away. Her voice was soothing to the ear. She assumed correctly in the gender of his dyr. It was common knowledge among his people.
“She is….a spirited dry.” He said searching for a kinder word then what he wanted to use. His tone definitely gave away his frustration with the dyr. Shu gave a ruffle of her feathers, and hoping to turn her back to him. ‘She’s a empty one, idiot.’ Shu shot at him in his mind. A shiver shot up his spine at the word.
Whirling around seeing one of the self-proclaimed Queens. His back stiffened, “your majesty…I did not know.” He said before remembering you were suppose to bow in these instances. Siraj had looked her in the eye his deep black eyes meeting hers for a second. Before they widened and he bowed. ‘dance dog dance’ Shu commented. The tiny bird seeming to side eye him over its shoulder.
Siraj shot a look over at the bird, his eyes like daggers. ‘Then don’t accept the scarps this dog feeds you.’ He shot back, Shu stuck her beak in the air and eyed down at him.
“I didn’t mean to disturb your peace majesty. Shu has a sharp tongue, some dyrs can be…opinionated?” he told but asked, wondering if that was the right word. Had he interrupted her in one of the many rooms of the keep? If she was angered, surely she wouldn’t be this calm. The Eldouirs weren’t known for their light words and kind demeanor.

It was not the first time that a dresmondi had been surprised to come face to her and it surely wouldn't be the last. While her family had a habit of either pushing away of the dresmondi or demanding the world of them, Elena was attempting to try something different. Diplomacy. Fear could only get you so far. Loyalty was a better, more well-earned prize.
He bowed to her and she gave him a nod of acceptance. It had been both weird and incredibly pleasurable to see people bow to her early on, but over time she'd become accustomed to the action. It was formality but typically meant very little unless someone was very specifically trying to get her to notice that they were not going to do so. "What does that say about you then? Are you also spirited and opinionated?" She was still trying to figure how much dresmondi and dyrs mirrored each other or if they were more likely to be opposites.
Siraj definitely had his ideas and was more then willing to act then necessary. Tilting his head a bit, wondering if this was a trap or a genuine question. “I’ve been known to speak up when needed.” He wasn’t the loudest voice in the room, but he always tried to make his words count. He decided to probe a bit. “If I hadn’t, I would of never found my self under the service of you’re uncle.” He said watching her closely. Wondering what her reaction would be.

It was only these words that told Elena who he was, suddenly striking her memory that Drystan had taken on a dresmondi advisor. It was rare for dresmondi to truly gain the confidence of the Eldouir. Even people as loyal as Eirwen were typically kept at arms length. "You're my uncle's advisor, aren't you?" she asked, though she had put together the answer already. "What is it exactly that you advise him on?" she pressed, withholding her judgement on him until she felt like she could come to a fair conclusion of his character.
Siraj watched her closely, it was always smart to keep your guard up when amongst the red headed ones. “I have been given that opportunity, yes” he said with a nod of agreement. He tried his best to avoid her eyes, he was still getting used to how to approach the people from across the border. Some wanted you to see them eye to eye, others felt it was a slight to think they could match their gaze. It was a game he was still learning even after all this time. The question was a tricky one he knew. The games that were played among the people from across the border were known to him. It had been explained from those soldiers who came with the Eldouirs. The way the nobles played politics with each other.
“I give him insight into the perspectives of the people.” He decided that was the best way to explain it. He understood it was not common for him to rise to this position. Unheard of actually, but it was definitely putting a target on him. Which he would gladly wear to try and help his people.

Hmm, well that certainly caught her interest. She had been attempting to build bridges herself instead of burning them. She wanted to build connection with the dresmondi rather than walking all over them like many of relatives preferred. It was slow work when it seemed she might be the only one trying. But clearly Drystan was thinking similarly at least if he had hired someone like this man to be his advisor.
"A worthwhile endeavor to be sure. What are your names?" she asked.

He gave a small smile, he had felt some pride in the appointment. Even now hearing it gave him a sense of accomplishment. Yet, he held in the greater smile he wanted to give. “Your words are a gift, I will do what I can to help the kingdom.” he said with a nod. ‘A gift, more like a scratch on a board.’ Shu shot at him. Siraj shot a look over to the bird, once that could only be perceived as ‘shut up.’
“I am Siraj, she is Shu the babbler.” he said alluding to the status that was given to the dyr in an interaction with a woman he thought could have been a friend. Well, it couldn't be helped.

Elena looked between the two of them as the man offered their names. Siraj and Shu. She wasn't sure how she felt about them, especially if he was currently having an argument with his dyr. It wasn't the first time she saw discord between dyr and their human counterpart but it was always curious to see how exactly it was displayed.
"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you both. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of each other," she said. She moved to step away unless they stopped her with further conversation.
