The death of her husband in early 827 allowed Florina to escape a loveless and abusive marriage.

Florina is the third child of a knight. She was the only one born with a gift, the only one in her family really and her parents encouraged her to keep it a secret. Seeing that his daughter had a talent for music and dancing, her father encouraged her to pursue the musical arts while her mother made sure she behaved like the very definition of a lady since she hoped her youngest would marry up.

When she came of the age to marry, Count Jerrod Bellerose approached her parents to ask for their youngest daughter's hand in marriage as he thought she was lovely of face and her manners very fine. This greatly pleased them as they saw this as a fine and advantageous match for their Florina, and they accepted on their daughter's behalf. They were married two seasons after the engagement was announced (Hiems 824). Unfortunately, it was not as fine a match as they hoped for. Count Bellerose had a temper that only worsened with drink, and it was not unusual to see poor Florina sporting bruises. A few years after their marriage (lat 826), she got pregnant, but the pregnancy did not keep. Some speculated that her husband had beaten her and caused the miscarriage, others say that it was not a strong pregnancy. Either way, Florina was devastated since she wanted nothing more than to have a baby to love. It was soon after that time when the servants were roused from their sleep to see the Count and Countess quarreling before they both tumbled down the stairs. The Count broke his skull and died, while Florina only suffered a broken arm. She leaves the care of her husband's vineyard to trusted servants.

A year later, she finally accepts her Aunt Phaedra's invitation to come stay with her.
