The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Akagi had requested the same drink as @kaveri and upon his first sip it was very evident he approved indicating another silently to the keep. He listened quite intently to the Dresmondi showing his undivided attention even between small polite drinks, the idea of an elder bestowing years of wisdom upon generations was intriguing.
When a question was directed to the Prince he dived in with a typical Arynnite approach, "I will take up the Crown when she either passes or steps down, but giving my Mother's age is," he did a quick math, "126 and the average Arynnite lifespan is 150 something she's got some time to go."
Kaveri nodded as Akagi spoke, but then found himself pausing when the man spoke of their average lifespan. Wide eyes blinked. "Your people live to be near one-hundred-and-fifty?" He repeated, mouth dropped open. "The oldest among us are those who wield the element of water, which is what Nephys and I use. The elders have mentioned people living up to one-hundred-and-twenty, but look..." he leaned in, shaking his head again with a devious smirk like he didn't want others around him to hear. No one around would care, they weren't Dresmondi, but he didn't care.
"I've known a couple who were right at a hundred, and they could barely put on their own shoes. They just hobble around, all shaky and always cold," he leaned back up and took another sip. "So the Queen must be impressive to still be able to lead the whole Kingdom."

Akagi loved learning new things and Kaveri was sharing a very awesome little tid bit, he immediately understood why a water based dyr and it's Dresmondi would live much longer as water was the basis of all life forms the most at serenity elements. Downing his drink he asked for something to eat, keeps choice, then returned to his conversation, "That's incredible...well not the hobbling of course...but I understand, our enchantments have extended our lives a little more with each generation. I'm sixty one if you believe it!"
Kaveri's eyes widened again, this time rather comically (on purpose), and he looked around the tavern dramatically as if he were looking for somone to answer a question he had not yet asked. If Nephys could roll his eyes, he might have, but deep down the dyr was just happy to see his human being drunkenly silly instead of drunkenly sad. It was rare these days. "Sixty-one? You? No." He shook his head. "No, you look younger than me! I'm thirty!"
"We're thirty-three, actually."
"Thirty-three!" He said, taking another drink of wine. "Wow, guess I should be more respectful to you since you're my elder."
"And the Prince."
"And the Prince!" He laughed, one hand moving to his chest. "Learn something new every day, huh? Can I ask you a question, Prince Akagi?" He leaned again. "How do you really feel about us? Well, not us, specifically - I mean, if you want to tell me how you feel about us specifically, that's okay - but I mean the Dresmondi. Because, honestly, you're way nicer than most of the Arynnite's we've met, I think they just feel like we don't belong."
He caught the keep's eyes and pointed to the man. "Except him. I think he accepts anyone who will buy his drinks." Kaveri said with a grin, that was returned by the Keep. "Guess we don't really belong anywhere now though, so that's fair."

Akagi was momentarily caught off guard by the question but he understood where it was coming from, he knew his people, but it hurt the Prince at the man's confession of not belonging anywhere.
"First let start off by saying this Kaveri, you belong all of your people belong anywhere and every where thats a condition all people deserve, I hate what has happened to your people being torn from your homes and ways of life by the Eldouir. It is tragic," he sighed and took a small drink from his beverage, "If I had it my way and I was King things would be different...I would have helped you get your homes back without a second thought. Second, you have to understand I...well I'm the anomaly of Arynn Frey of the royal family. I care perhaps to much for everyone and I think the least bit of change and my people become uncomfortable. I think it's arrogance and that's a trait that befalls all kingdoms...."
Kaveri's lower lip pushed outward thoughtfully, and with some caution he reached a strong arm out and placed it on the Prince's shoulder. "You're a wise man, my friend," he said, still the slightest hint of laughter in his tone. It seemed that he had managed to be put into a rare good mood, and even the topic of Dresmond and the Eldouir and arrogant kingdoms could not bring him down.
"I'm glad you think that way. It gives me hope," he said, straightening his back, puffing out his chest and beating his fist against it once. "Maybe when you take over, the arrogance of the Eldouir will finally topple them and we'll have you to thank. And me. They can thank me too, because I'll be there to help. Well, probably. As long as we don't die before then." He laughed, shrugged, and took another drink. "But I understand what you mean about caring too much. It does make things harder sometimes, doesn't it?"

Akagi copied Kaveri by pounding his own chest, he was touched to be thought of as wise because he did try. If people also didn't have hope WHAT did they have? Hope could powerful in the darkest of times, Akagi truly believed that and he hoped that when that day did come when Arynn Frey would surely be tested hope would shine through for his people...for the Dresmondi.
"and oh yes, caring to much can definitely make things harder, I am the oddball in that department here but I want to change that..if everyone cared the world itself would heal," then he sighed, "but there are bad people regardless you know and that always upsets me. I don't feel that my Mother is bad per say but I often worry her idleness is from a place of some kind of bad, this whole wall project...I wasn't even involved with the plan."
Another drink, and Kaveri looked at the man from the side. His head tilted, and once more he leaned a little closer, eyes examining Akagi the way many Arynnite's examined him. Like something they wanted to understand, though the reason was often very different.
"You don't care for the wall?" Kaveri asked, though he was quiet as a drunk man could manage to be. "Our people put a lot of time and blood into that wall. I hope the Queen is happy with it, when it's done." What else could he say about it, after all? "Idleness..." he shook his head. "Ya know, the old folk in our caravan don't rest when they're old. They keep working. They stay active, well, as active as they can at their age. 'Cause they think that once they do that, become idle, they die. Lose their purpose."
He took another drink. "Maybe she just lost her purpose."

"perhaps she has," Akagi agreed between a deep drink from his cup, he was starting to feel the effects, "you are pretty wise Kaveri, I will proudly say I'm glad to have met you and Nephys but no I don't agree with the wall sadly, it's been grossly taxing on your people, I would have never decreed it. Your people aren't indentured servants you're people...and dyrs. What we should be doing is helping you get your lands back..."
"Hey, you hear that, Nephys? The Prince says I'm wise! Hah! You've never told me that!" Kaveri said with a laugh. The sheep didn't bother to look up at his human, she blew air out through his nose in response. Kaveri shrugged.
But the fun drained from Kaveri's expression as Akagi got all serious on him. His shoulders slouched, and his hand moved up to clap the Prince on the back. He seemed to need it. He seemed...down, upset, maybe he was just thinking really hard. Either way, Kaveri offered him a smile. "Well, hey man, if that's what you want when you take over this place, I'm looking forward to it. I like this place and all, and the ale? Better than the stuff we used to make, by faarrrr," he patted him on the back again, and then his hand moved back to his mug. "But there's nothing like thriving Dresmondi land, witnessed from the back of a moving wagon, while your feet scrape the dirt." He closed his eyes, as if he could picture it.

The comforting pat on his back did help, Akagi needed it and his words brought back that encouragement of happiness Akagi thrived in, "One day friend, you'll have that again," he smiled and returned the encouraging pat, "and I hope to join you for one of those wagon rides," and he meant it.
Kaveri smiled. It was deep, one that reached his eyes. Even if he was drunk, and even if he didn't trust the Arynnite's as far as he could throw two of them, he liked this one. And he thought, even if none of his dreams came to pass, he at least genuinely wanted them. "I would like that. We should drink to it!"
He reached for his mug, grabbed it, pushed it against Akagi's hard enough to spill a little onto his own trousers, and began to chug it. "I wouldn't do that." Nephys warned, but Kaveri didn't hear him. He was nearly through with the ale when it hit him. Quickly he put the mug down and stood from the bar stool.
"Thanks for -- getting us home, Prince, but -- see you -- goodnight!" He was already gagging as he hurried away from the bar to a door that led out back so he could vomit. Nephys stood up from his place on the floor and lifted his great-horned head up to look at the Prince, then dipped it low in as proper a bow as a ram could give. Then he turned to follow his too-drunken counterpart.
