The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[For @torsten]
As soon as Aldrich had left the training courtyard, he had asked another soldier to run to the barracks to let Torsten know that Aldrich wanted to see him in his office. Yesterday had put everything in perspective for him, and he realised that a soldier losing his temper with the drill instructor wasn't the worst thing that could happen. The involuntary turning of a soldier into a werewolf had definitely proven that. Just for the young man's peace of mind, Aldrich had told the soldier to let Torsten know that he hadn't done anything wrong, and that Aldrich just wanted to follow up on their previous conversation.
He stepped into his office and sat in his chair. He rubbed his face and let out a deep, deep sigh. He was honoured that Hadrian had promoted him, but he would've preferred to be promoted under other circumstances. He was now a lieutenant, and the one that was the connection between the other lieutenants, while we were at it. He lit a cigarette, hoping it would make him forget about the stress that was making his muscles feel tense and sore. He waited.
Mosse trudged forward, following orders as usual, his tread large, heavy and measured. When the soldier had told him of Abbott's new promotion, his face stayed an impassive stone mask that revealed nothing. He kept his eyes front, looking neither left or right, and ducked to enter the Lieutenant's office. In silence, he stopped to stand in front of the desk at attention. And waited.

"Mosse", he said when the soldier entered the office. He stood for a moment, gestured that the young man could sit if he wanted before sitting down again. "I'm sure you've heard about what has happened at the ball yesterday, and that the commander has given everyone new orders. If not, I'm sure that your fellow soldiers will tell you all about it. It did, however, make me realise that you raising your voice at me truly is one of the last problems that we should be concerned about. That's why I've called you here." He waited for a moment, putting out his cigarette against the bottom of his shoe. "I'm dismissing you, Mosse. You can go back to your regular routine and won't have to report to me anymore. In general you still have to, but your punishment is over. Just don't let something like this happen again, alright?" While he was still to the point and cold, he was somewhat less mean and antagonising than usual. He just wanted some peace and quiet, and guessed that the young soldier wanted that as well.
We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start.

Mosse remained standing, as silent and immobile as a mountain, only nodding his head once in answer to the Lieutenant's direct question. And he waited.

Like the disciplined soldier that he was, Torsten remained silent and only nodded once when Aldrich asked a question. "Good, good", he muttered. "Well, you're dismissed, then. Unless you have something to say, or ask?" He didn't think the young man would have something to say, but after yesterday night, he just wanted to give the soldier the opportunity to speak up or ask a question if he had one, about the ball or about whatever. Aldrich was too tired to be a hard-ass today. "If you don't, you can go about your day."
