The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Raff had his hair tied back neatly, wore a clean uniform and sprung for a new razor to shave for this for this meeting. Like the Captain Commander had said, it was time to make a commitment or hand in your resignation. He'd had plenty of time to mourn and needed to move on and put in the papers to get Paired again. With an impending war breathing down their collective necks, there was no more room for doubt or worry. Terach needed to lead, follow or get outta the way. He rubbed a toe on the back of his pant hem and knocked on the door to Captain Woodwick's office. Chin up and shoulders back, he was ready to move on with his life and make something of himself.

It'd been a long day following a sleepless night. Rhedara Shannon had only just left Warren's office a few minutes prior, and Jasper, Warren's secretary had just closed the door and sat down at his desk with a huff.
"Are you terribly exhausted, Lord Gerard?" Warren asked, the kind of flat, tired sarcasm that only someone who had actually gone to the ball the night before would understand.
"Yes! We've been running around all day and--" he turned to see Warren's face and cut himself off, straightening up in his chair. "I mean, no sir, I'm perfectly fine, thank you for asking. Is there anything I can get you?"
The knock came just then, and Warren's gaze remained on his assistant. "You can get the door."
The young man looked like he was going to sigh, but opted not to. Good call. He stood from his desk and pulled the door open, revealing the man behind it. "Lieutenant Terach," Warren said, pushing himself up from his desk. He hadn't expected Raff to stop by so soon, but as he was going to be working more closely with the Lieutenants and Drill Instructors to keep a closer eye on the soldiers, it wasn't too strange for him to show up, either. "Let him in, Lord Gerard, and take a break."
The young man nodded, standing aside to allow Raff in before he exited the room and closed the door behind him. Warren walked around his desk to shake Raff's hand, and then offered him the chair directly in front of his desk. "Please, have a seat." He said, and as he was sitting in his own chair, he continued. "What can I help you with?"
"Thank you Captain." Terach replied, sitting promptly. He was far too tired to waste time on niceties or take up Captain Woodwick's time any more than absolutely necessary, so he spoke up quickly and concisely.
"The Captain Commander's speech really got through and I'm requesting permission for reentry into the Paired Soldiers program. With my previous experience, new training would be minimal Sir. I know I could be an asset to the position."
His gaze remained steady and confident on the Captain, but the bags under his eyes told the complete tale of exhaustion from the Balls' overnight ordeal.

Warren was not entirely surprised to hear that the man before him was interested in returning to the paired soldiers program. Although he needed all the help he could get in seeing to the new strict training and up-keep of the soldiers, the paired program had already taken a big hit. He knew they needed more. The werewolves were an essential part of their military, a part that helped make them the strongest military in the world. Yet the numbers of them were dwindling, and they needed to find more as quickly as possible.
"That's an honorable decision, Lieutenant," Warren said as he drew a fresh piece of parchment from a drawer in his desk and dipped his fountain pen in the inkwell. "I agree that you would still be well suited to the position, and I see no reason that you would have to lose rank, as Lieutenants Van Zant and Valana have been promoted. I'm sure the paired leadership would be glad to have some with experience to help guide the newer soldiers."
He was quiet for a while as he wrote up a paper of recommendation. "That said, Lieutenant Terach, I am not sure there are currently many witches at your skill level in the paired program. Those with more experience are already paired, so you may find yourself without a witch for the time being, until they find someone suitable."
He nodded in agreement, knowing that facts were simply just that. He hadn't come forward sooner and that was his own fault so it was merely a case of too little, too late. The guy was having to state the obvious for him. Swiftly he mentally reviewed the people available and there wasn't a single one that suited his unique situation. When Captain Woodwick had finished his notations, Terach rose from his seat in a quick motion and answered respectfully.
"I understand and thank you for your time Captain."
Warren watched as Terach stood up and nodded to him, but slid the parchment over and offered the pen to the younger man. "Sign this for me, before you go. I'll have it delivered to the current paired leadership and I'm sure they'll reach out to you within a day to make arrangements for your new schedule."
Once the man signed the paper, Warren would sign it as well, and as the ink dried he'd fold it neatly. "If you have any further questions in the mean time, I will do my best to answer them."
Lieutenant Terach stood ready to sign up again, setting his future indelibly in ink, and damn the consequences. Nevermere was on the brink of war and if there was ever a time to say you were ready to die for your kingdom-again, it was now.
"That covers everything Captain Woodwick, so thank you again. I'm off to the Snake Pit then, maybe you should at least get a meal in too sir." he responded, turning in a precise about face and left with a measured stride. For better or worse, Raff Terach was ready to commit full time.
