[ For Aldrich Abbott ]
Although a few days had passed and people had begun to cool down from the events of the ball, there was still a lot of work to be done. There were some things that were simply unavoidable, and one of those was the inevitable meeting with Aldrich. Warren had been battling his own embarrassment. It was unlike him to have acted the way he did, especially on behalf of a woman who he could not claim. While he was perfectly willing to take responsibility for his own actions, he couldn't deny that the notion that the wine for the night had been tampered with held some weight. Though he hadn't had much of the stuff, he had suddenly allowed his emotions to get the best of him, which was troublesome considering he'd only meant to stay long enough to chaperone his niece and nephew.
Regardless, he'd called Aldrich to his office. He and the newly made Lieutenant had plenty of things to talk about other than the events of the ball, but he had to get that out of the way first. Then he could put it all behind himself, and move on with the work that needed to get done.
"This stuff?" Jasper asked, dusting off the bottle he'd pulled from the bottom drawer of the table that sat against the left wall of the office.
"Yes, Lord Gerard," Warren said tiredly, motioning toward himself. Jasper handed the bottle to him, then grabbed the two glasses from atop the same table and moved them to Warren's desk. Then the kid walked back to his desk and sat down. Warren closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Why don't you take a break? I'm not sure how long this will take."
"Alright!" Jasper said happily, standing up and heading out the door.
"Leave it open, please," Warren said, and the kid nodded, leaving the door half-way opened before disappearing. Warren cursed Aveline for suggesting the kid, but a man's curse meant nothing.
