The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Things had not gone as Rhedara had planned. One day, she was in the military, the next she was discharged for something she'd done a week before and was already being disciplined for. Woodwick had given her a glimmer of hope that she'd eventually be able to reenlist, but when would that be? Months from now? Years? In the meantime, she had to figure out what the hell she'd do for money until then.
And that's why she found herself wandering aimlessly on the streets. Staying home would make her go crazy, and the movement would help her think. Unfortunately for her, her thinking had her watching the ground instead of what was right in front of her, so she ended up running into someone much larger than her (which was most people, if she were being honest with herself). To her great embarrassment, she bounced off the stranger and landed on her butt.
"Damn it," she hissed more to herself than to the stranger. This wasn't like her at all, "Sorry about that," she said a little louder so the stranger would hear her.

Othello and Benji were out shopping for things to fix and eat, they had been at it for hours and Othello didn't know where to find a thing. He was blind as a bat navigating Nevermere and almost to prideful to ask for help of course very few looked less than thrilled to offer aid or they feared more so that Othello would ask. He almost turned down another unknown street when something very light bounced off him and thumped hollow like on the ground, "oh shit," he looked down at the little apologizing lady, "stuff your sorries in a sack miss, are you okay?" he offered his large hand to her, Benji copying dad did the same, "I don't have a fucking clue...sorry...I don't have a clue where I'm going..."

Rhedara looked at the offered hand a moment before taking it and letting him pull her to her feet. She looked at the creature that had also offered a hand to her, a little confused, “I’m fine,” she said then craned her head to look at the man in front of her. Terra Nova he was tall! Not as tall as Tor, but still taller than Raff. She saw his face and instantly recognized him. She’d never personally spoken to him, but she’d seen a glimpse of him at the ball just before pandemonium struck. The Champion of Nevermere.
But she had no chance to vocalize her recognition. His declaration of being lost struck a chord with her, “Me too,” she heard herself say, then waved her hand in the air dismissively, “in a manner of speaking that is," she hesitated, "Where are you trying to go?”

After helping the dainty little flower to her feet he looked her over, "You are a tough cookie miss," taking a small step backwards Othello looked around, "I'm trying to find a place to get things for food, a market or something," he nodded his large head at the child strapped to him, "Seems if you create life you have to feed it," he leaned down whispering almost comedically because the smiling teething child didn't understand words, "and he eats like two horses," standing straight back up Othello offered his hand, "Othello Allemeade, Nevermere Champion, this is Benjamin Allemeade, boy."

She didn’t know how bouncing off a random man in the street and hitting the ground made her a tough cookie, but she’d take the compliment. It did seem like he really did have a problem though, and another day she might have just given him directions and went on her way.
“Maybe I can help,” she said, “It’s easy to get lost around here when you’re familiar with the twists and turns. The market’s not far though,” helping him out would give her something to do to keep her mind off of things…and being around a cute little kid would help raise her spirits, too. The image of the child eating so much food managed to put a smile on her face for the first time that day, “Well we should get him some food then before he tries to eat you!”
She took his hand and shook it, “Ah, the Champion,” she said it like she hadn’t figured it out already, “It’s an honor. I’m Rhedara Shannon, former soldier.”

"Nice to meet you Rhedara Shannon, and yes food sounds good because he has tried to eat me several times today," Othello joked rubbing the blonde hair boy on his head, Othello had done noticed the pair stuck out because of their hair, "lead little miss and we shall follow...so what do you do for a living? What's good eating?" he reached into a pocket of his black trousers and pulled a decent sized coin purse from it, "is this enough for us a meal?"

“I’ve just been discharged,” she said, trying not to stare at his hair too long, “So right now I am unemployed,” She’d never been outside of Nevermere, and Othello and Benji’s blond hair was just so…bright! How was is possible that hair could be that yellow?
It distantly occurred to her that she should be intimidated by Othello. She’d heard a few things about him, and he was also a very imposing-looking man. But the sight of the child that was strapped to him made him seem…not harmless exactly…perhaps safe to be around?
She laughed at Othello’s joke, “Persistent little guy, is he? Let’s go find something then before I have to pry him off you!” Her eyebrows shot right toward her hairline when he pulled out the coin purse. It was more money than she’d ever owned. Her eyes darted to his face and back to the purse. This Othello guy was probably old enough to be her father, how did he not know if that would be enough? He was a foreigner…did the coins have a different value where he was from?
“More than enough,” she assured him, “Follow me. The marketplace isn’t that far. Not chilly enough for food vendors to be hiding indoors either. Anything you’d prefer?”

Othello grinned when she said it would be plenty and so he tossed the coin purse to Rhedara, "Well then bum," he joked, "seeing as you don't have a job, you can help a brother out by being my guide and money manager for the day," truthfully Othello knew very little about money he didn't really ever have a need for it when he could have always just taken what he wanted, cut a head off here and there and meals were free, stealing meant his clothes had been free, and he dealt in knowledge better than he did finical gain.
"I like meat, you show us the fine dinning of Nevermeran culture Misses Shannon! So what did you get the boot for?"

Rhedara took the sack of money with wide eyes. Bum? What? Manager? This Othello guy was awfully trusting. If she were more desperate, she’d be tempted to steal it. As it was, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to try out her first big heist on this large man, child in tow or not.
“Meat, got it,” she tied the bag of money to her belt, no better place to put it, “There’s a lot of good places for that, although you’ll probably find more meat of the fish variety with us being this close to the ocean.”
Ah yes, the question about why she was terminated. It would surely makes the rounds before the week was out, “I…” she thought about lying, but didn’t see the point. She sighed, “I cursed my superior to cluck like a chicken.”

Fish. Othello was use to fish, as a former pirate, potatoes and fish were a usual diet for the big man, he could personally put away an entire tuna by himself if challenged enough to do so. As they walked and Rhedara confessed about the reason for her being discharged he couldn't help laugh loudly shaking his head, "hahahaha! You little Witches are as chaotic as me," and Othello thought himself pretty chaotic but the list so far was against him: Regans extraction of him from Coheed, the ball, and now the wayward curses? He loved it.
"I love it, that's pretty badass. Sometimes even your superiors need a fuckin' slap in the mouth. Would you do it again?"

Little she almost scowled at the word before she thought that everyone might seem little to him. And he was so damned friendly she had a hard time working up the nerve to be upset about being called tiny. Besides, he was laughing at her stunt as if her loss of control that had ultimately gotten her kicked out of her dream job had been a good thing. Oddly enough, it was like balm on a festering wound.
“It was wasn’t it?” She’d been kicking herself earlier, but Othello was allowing her to bask in the punishment she’d inflicted on her drill instructor. She had promised Woodwick that she would try to get better, to show improvement by learning to controlling her temper better, but if she were boing honest…
“Yes I would,” it was probably a mistake to admit it, but it was the truth, “Only I won’t give myself away for it. He did deserve it. Abbott was having someone as big as Torston Mosse—oh you probably don’t know him…he’s as big as you are!” She held her arms out as if to emphasize how big Tor was, “Well, he was going to have Tor sit on Zarha. He had Stormcrest sit on me. I about got my teeth knocked out when my face hit the ground…I don’t know what the point was,” she should stop talking, she knew it, but she was on a roll to someone who seemed to not only understand her actions but condone them, too, “It’s like he gets off on seeing young women be squished to death.” There had been a lot more to it, and her reasons had been less altruistic than she was saying, but the bare facts were still there. She had not appreciated being a target of that sort of ‘training.’

Othello couldn't help but giggle like a mischievous boy, "Some men do get off on that, they usually have to pay for it or they have to get it done through having what little power they can muster," Othello again waived it all away, "stuff your sorries and worries Rhedara, if you felt what you did was right well it was right and fuck the rest," he spit right on the ground shocking some passing people, he didn't even notice, "fuck it right in the ass," he did the ear muff thing over Benji's ears even though the kid looked around with a uninterested stupid child like wonder plastered over his drooling face, "whoops, language. I know," removing his hands from the child's ears he continued, "and I know Tor. I also know Zarha that's...well that's just ridiculous if you ask me. Whatever. You'll bounce back, Nevermere always seems to bounce back."

“Yeah, fuck it!” she said with a little punch in the air, then covered her mouth when she remembered the presence of the child, “Sorry…” swearing didn’t bother her a bit, but she usually didn’t use such colorful language if she could help it…especially if there was a small child present ears covered or not. However, Othello’s energy was contagious, and ‘fuck it’ seemed like the perfect thing to say. It had been ridiculous.
“Yeah, I’ll bounce back. Woodwick said he’d recommend me in the future if I wanted to enlist again, so there’s that,” she still needed to feed and shelter herself in the meantime, but nobles wouldn’t consider that, would they with their deep coin purses and grand estates?
“I see the food stands up ahead…there’s also some taverns which are all good, but I don’t know if you want to bring the little one in one of those,” not that she thought anyone would bother him. It must be nice to look like a big bear, “So whatever you prefer. There’s a great cart that sells the best roasted fish this side of Skia though,” she pointed to the cart in question where there was a man that was placing fish skewers over a makeshift fireplace which was just a barrel with a steady fire burning within.
Whichever Othello chose, Rhedara would lead him over, “So I take it you haven’t been able to explore much? Are you out just looking for a bite, or for anything in particular?”

Othello pointed at the cart in question and the smell that wafted made his mouth water and Benji gave a happy gurgle of incoherent babble also in agreement, "The jury has spoken, food cart," and as they they changed directions toward the vender Othello shrugged, "I'm looking for a bite of food and if it isn't to much, a place that can put together a meal for say a small house warming party? Which of course you'll be invited to, also I'll give you the coin for it but I need you to pick out a Gift for the Huntsman... don't matter what but something," he said warmly before addressing the rest of her questions, "I was on palace arrest until the Huntsman made me more.... Nevermere'ish ...so it didn't afford to much exploring."

Goddess that baby is cute! Rhedara hadn’t given much thought to having children herself…she wasn’t against it by any means, but it was one of those far off ‘someday’ sort of things. Babies were not on her short list of things to do. However, the presence of the little blond kid gave Rhedara a little baby fever.
So he wanted food for a house party, interesting. Even more interesting was that she was invited. They’d just met, after all, “Sounds like fun. I’ll be there,” she said, “I think if you pay anyone here enough money they’ll cook for you…can’t promise it’ll be like one of the king’s fancy meals, but everyone would be full.”
Mention of the huntsman made her face go a little white. The first and only time she’d interacted with the woman, she’d been in her face yelling at her. Rhedara could have sworn she’d heard an animalistic growl in her voice, and if the rumors were true, she probably did hear it, “Well, if you’re needing help getting her a gift, I’ll help you out…but I’m not sure if she likes me that much. Last time I saw her she was ripping me a new one for cursing Abbott.”
“Palace arrest sounds…” luxurious I she were being honest. She’d never stayed in a palace before…unless one counted the barracks as the palace that is. Still, the term ‘arrest’ suggested a restriction that she instinctually rebelled against. Make him more Nevermere’ish indeed. Seemed they were trying to change everybody, “That sounds lonely. But at least you’re out and about now right?” She offered a smile, “So they say you’re from Coheed. I’ve never been outside of Nevermere. What’s it like there?” She coudln’t help but ask, “does everyone have yellow hair there?”
They reached the food cart, and there was really only two things available: Fish and roasted potatoes. The food vendor was a skinny older fellow with a belly that made him look a little pregnant. He’ll look at the three of them, “Wha’ can oi get fer ye?” He’ll ask them as if he had a wide array of choices.
