The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
The halls of the castle had become as familiar to her in the last three years as the military wing had been for the nine years that she had devoted her time to the Nevermeran military. There were days when Meiying missed the sound of heavy boots thudding against the stone, or the in-unison shouts that came from groups of soldiers acknowledging an order. Other times she missed the smell of salt in her hair and the feeling of the cool water splashing against her skin. This was a natural part of life. Some things, no matter how beloved, had to be left behind for the betterment of oneself, ones work, and ones kingdom.
Kennet was a meticulous woman, ever watching, but she had only so many eyes. In those times where she could not stretch them far enough to see all, it was Meiying's job to make up the distance. So she spent much of her spare time doing just that. Every detail counted. So on this day, the former soldier was lucky that some of those things she missed and her duty collided. Stepping onto the beach, toes in the dark sand, she took in her surrounding with a long, slow, inhale. The salty air filled her lungs and she held it there for as long as she could as she drew closer to the water. There, the sand was damp and more compact and she walked across it with ease. A figure up ahead caught her eyes, someone she recognized despite not knowing very well.
"Lady Delaney," Meiying greeted her with a proper bow. "It's a pleasure to see you again. Have you come merely for fresh air, or to recollect your time at sea?"

Valeria should be at home resting however no longer a soldier the sea was calling her even more she had one hand on her belly and one holding the necklace that dad gave her when she was 18. The one that belonged to mum knowing that even though it was emotional painful not following her dreams it was for the best for her baby. Her dear child to be there for them.
It been harder that Keir was busy with training, when Keir come home she makes sure that he well looked after and rested, she doesn't like him being a full on soldier again he was safer being a royal guard but she support him and he is talented with what he does. Dedicated, hard-working and loyal.
As she was looking towards the sea Val heard a voice and she noticed it was lady Meng giving her a curtsy. "Both really, You can take the woman out of the sea, but you can't take the sea out of the woman, I suppose." Giving a soft smile "Hope you doing well Lady Meng?"
"I certainly understand your meaning," Mei replied with a polite smile of her own. "I am well, yes, thank you for asking. I had come here looking for someone else, but they seem to have left already." She'd been told a man she needed to speak to was often on the docks, fishing. But the docks were in clear view, and no man sat upon them. She would have to look elsewhere later in the day, but for now she'd decided to enjoy a place that seemed to comfort both she and Valeria.
"How is your pregnancy going? I hope the events of the recent ball did not do any lasting damage? You do appear to be healthy."

Valeria smiled at Meiying, she was a well respected woman, she was determind and level headed. She works hard for the crown and for Valeria, she can respect that as well as admire. "I am glade you are well Lady Meng."Val looked around the shoreline. "The last lot most of left about half an hour prior to arriving here." She doesn't know who she was looking for hoping that would be of some use.
When she asked about the baby she looked down and smiled. "It going well. the healers at the palace said both me and baby are fit and healthy but on strict orders to be careful and rest. Knowing my husband and lord Usher they possible want me at home laying in bed." She laughed. However they know she can't sit around forever otherwise she will be bored.
"Ah, I seem to have missed him by quite a bit then. Thank you for the information, my lady," Meiying replied, following Valeria's glance to the shoreline not far from where they stood.
She spoke positively of her pregnancy, which brought a smile to Meiying's face. "That's good to hear. The next generation of Delaney's must be a strong force to be reckoned with. My family has been dedicated to yours for quite some time. It gladdens me to hear that you are taking good care of yourself, and that your husband and the Commander are equally as concerned."
With a nod, Meiying chuckled quietly, a restrained but genuine laugh. "Men often believe us to be much weaker than we are when pregnant, but every woman is different and Nevermere's current events can be quite stressful. I cannot blame them for erring on the side of caution. I heard you will begin working as lady in waiting to the Princess. That's a wonderful position. Though I've not had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with her, I have heard that the princess is very kind and gracious."

There was a soft smile on her face, whoever Meiying was looking for she most need to speak to. When she explained that she has been working with her family for some time she raised a eyebrow slightly. "Oh?" She was intrigued in finding it out. "Any secrets you mind spilling." She said with a cheeky smile on her face. "My father and Husband bother worry too much. I understand with my dad, bring some sad memories for him but I am a strong powerful witch and this one, I am sure that they will be just as strong if not stronger."
There was a soft laugh when she mentioned her working for the Princess. "Yeah I am looking forward once the baby is hear and settled to start my duties of lady-in-waiting. I am looking forward to working for her highness. I haven't have much time to properly talk to her yet but she seems amazing."
Smirking, Meiying shook her head. Her short hair swayed around her neck, tangling in her earrings. She pushed it back behind her ears, smoothing any messy stray pieces with her fingers. "No secrets at all, my lady. In fact, that is something my family and I admire most about the Delaney's. They're a straight forward, honest family. Always have been."
"It is the nature of the men in our lives to worry about us, I believe. Despite being a military man himself for many years, my father still often worried about me when I was still enlisted. Even more so than he worried for my brothers." She shrugged at the thought, understanding fully what it meant but choosing to give it a more positive connotation. "Work with the Princess will certainly be less dangerous for you as a new mother. The first year of a child's life can be trying and tiresome for the mother. You must take good care of yourself for the sake of the little one."
As for what she had been up to..."Although we are not part of the military, my work with Lady Caern has been incredibly busy. All moving pieces of the monarchy become busy during an approaching conflict. Though, I admit, most of what I handle is paperwork. Much less exciting, I know, but necessary all the same."

Valeria laughed, "Yeah they are really honest." Like it did take her bringing it up with keir going to the midnight house, however, once she did he was completely honest. "One of the things I love about Keir is that even though he is awkward he has a heart of gold and he is honest. Among a list of other things that I could list."
"Yeah you should of seen my father's face, like he was so relieve when I stepped down as soldier even though it felt a bit of me died. Growing up it was a dream of mine and his that we would travel the sea together. However that was put on hold when he became commander. I promised I carried on the dream for us both. However.. I guess that dream will just be in my sleep." Explaining softly as she looked out to the sea.
At the mention of the princess and motherhood there was a soft smile "I am so looking forward to motherhood, but it scary that the end of next season this little one be here." It feel strange that it so near. That soon she will have a child in her arms. She just hope that when the baby arrives that Keir and her dad will be around to meet them. She would hate to not be around when she goes into labor.
Listening closely as Meiying explained. "I guess with the upcoming war, and recent events there even more paper work going on, with the changes part in place. I guess his Majesty has a lot on his plate with the how the ball was handled?" If she was to be the Princess Lady in waiting she has to make sure she up-to-date with the king.
Her kind words toward her husband brought a reignited smile to Meiying's face. In all actuality, Meiying's father had hoped to wed her to Keir Delaney, when the time had come. But Meiying had wanted to prove herself worthy. She'd refused to marry until she had established herself in the military, and then she had been sent to Cambria. When she was back, and prepared, she was too late. An unfortunate turn of events, but it mattered little in the long run. Mei was in no hurry to marry or have children. Her work felt more important, especially now.
"Yes, well, you certainly seem to feel very negatively about being forced to step-down. I can empathize with that, but it is the nature of a woman's fate that we must put our own selfish desires aside for the sake of our children. I'm sure that once the child is old enough, you could rejoin the military, if that is what you prefer to do at the time. You're still very young. When the time comes for your child to eat solid foods, you'll still be younger than I am now. The sea will always be here." Meiying couldn't relate to Valeria's outward exaggerated disdain for having to resign her rank. Had she expected to continue her role in the military while pregnant and rearing? Pregnancy was a difficult enough path as it is, without being on wavering ships in the open seas or the stresses of leadership. The future generation was always much more important, but even so, if she had not wanted to give anything up, she should have waited a while longer to have the child.
Yet, she had to admit that she was still looking forward to motherhood. "Scary? I'm sure you'll be well taken care of, and in the best of hands. I suppose giving birth is an intimidating process regardless, but certainly, you'll have nothing to fear. The time will approach more quickly than you expect and before you know it, you'll have a healthy child to care for. A gift, truly."
Speaking of the King and having much to do, though, seemed like an understatement. "I believe Commander Usher is handling the events rather well, with some guidance from the King, of course. His Majesty is always busy, of course, which is why he must be able to rely on those of us closest to him to do our jobs well. The adjustments made to the military by your father will be very helpful, I'm sure."
