The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Although Warren had his own suspicions about what Kasper Van Zant had brought up to him regarding the wine at the ball, the investigation had been initially shut down. The Captain Commander hadn't seemed to give the thought much validity, perhaps because some people were more affected than others. If it was true, perhaps because they hadn't drank as much as others. It was too early to tell, but Warren knew one thing for sure: after only around half a glass or so, he had not been himself. The calm, reasonable control that he always displayed no matter the circumstance had melted away. Had the sobering appearance of a werewolf in the crowd not interrupted him, disallowing him more of the wine, what might have happened?
Warren was no light weight. Half a glass of wine was barely enough to quench his thirst, much less make him intoxicated. So he was glad when the order was given to continue the investigation, although he had to admit, after all this time he wasn't sure how sure they could be. Regardless, he already had his hands full with the changes implemented and he thought it best to trust this investigation to the man who had initially brought it up. Kasper would be called to his office, and Warren would await his arrival. When Kasper arrived, Jasper would swiftly open the door for him and allow him in. Warren would stand to greet Kasper, offering to shake his hand. "Sergeant Van Zant, good to see you. I hope you're doing well?" He would say, walking back around to sit at his desk, holding his hand out toward the chair opposite him for the man to sit.

Kasper didn't slack or argue anymore when orders were given, he wasn't the young disobedient trash panda he had been years ago and if that wasn't a testament to how much he had changed then he would never know how to show it. Initially his pride was wounded when his investigation had been put on hold, not because he wanted any glory from it or respect but because Kasper wanted to see that everyone involved that had been a direct result in the death of Wilson Barr be held accountable. That was right to him or that's how it felt.
Of course as he headed to Captain Woodwicks office he felt a pang of nerves punching the walls of his guts, he assumed his dumb idea about the spiked drinks a idea that he had no evidence of other than from personal experience had gotten some of the higher ups in trouble. Why? Because if his accusations had been true that would have looked even more worse on his military family. On the King. His Father had always said, 'shit doesn't roll up hills,' so this shit had rolled from the King onto the Commander, then the Captain, and now it was going to coat him like a shit coated lollipop.
Upon entering the office Kasper stood and gave the Captain his respected salute before shaking Woodwicks hand, "I'm good Captain, preparing things with Sergeant @faylin for our departure to Gilead at the start of the next season," Kasper took the offered seat, "I know I'm not supposed to bring this up, but I know you know and I want to apologize about my theory about the spiked punch....my intentions weren't to get you or anyone else in trouble for it, I just wanted those all involved to be held accountable for their actions. I didn't know Barr but I know what a family goes through when someone important to them is killed, I went to meet them not long ago...I had dinner with them and Barr was a good boy. He didn't deserve it, what happened."
As Kasper took his seat, Warren took his as well. He let the young man speak to his feelings, and the words offered gave Warren a new found respect for the man before him. His initial thought was that Kasper was very unlike what Warren knew of his sister, @katerina. But that wasn't surprising. Warren was a far cry from his own sisters. Siblings were often different in a lot of ways.
When he finished, Warren inhaled somewhat sharply. "I am inclined to agree with you, Sergeant. I did not know Wilson Barr well, but I was the officer who had to break the news to his parents and as a non-paired, non-magic wielding soldier, he was my soldier. I, too, want to see that all those responsible are punished. So I will not accept your apology because it is not necessary. No trouble came of your theory, and I've just recently been given permission to look further into it."
Leaning up, Warren rested his elbows on his desk and laced his fingers in front of himself. "I believe there is some truth to your theory. I did not feel like myself after drinking from the wine, and I feel that there were others that were not quite acting themselves as well. Of course, we will need proof and with all traces of that wine gone, it will be difficult to find. But I'd like you to personally investigate further. I do think it would be best we keep this to ourselves for now, until you're done looking into it. If the wine was tampered with, whoever committed the act will likely assume they've gotten away with it. It's best to let them believe that until we've found otherwise. Do you agree?"

Kaspers bottom jaw dropped in a little bit of surprise they were going to continue to investigate his theory, silently inside Kasper celebrated the small victory. Still he nodded respectively, "Yes sir I do agree," Kasper was leaning forward himself and he spoke quietly, "So, not that I've been thinking about it since that night but, I got at least a few starting points for us to check out: the first is our own stockpile of potions everything I assume is kept on record and anyone who wants access have to sign in and out right?" he had held up one finger for his first idea and then added a second, "Second and this is just my trash panda blood speaking here sir, our spikers illegally obtained a potion from a shop owner or someone cooked it for them."
Kasper stood and was actually pacing hands laced behind his back clearly evident that the new Sergeant had done nothing but think about this lately, "But before we start looking for the source I guess we need to get some kind of idea about what potion was used, yeah? So from personal experience I felt extremely nervous and clammy, something I'm usually not, but I put that mostly off to being so near the King...which I can swear has never happened, not that close," Kasper stopped pacing and stared at the Captain, "uh Sir, can you describe how you felt?"
Warren hadn't expected this level of excitement to spill forth from the Sergeant. Though it had been his idea to investigate the wine to begin with, he'd assumed the young man would have easily forgotten it once ordered to do so. Instead, it seemed like Kasper had been thinking about the possibility ever since. Warren could admit that he, too, felt it had been an oversight. Something ignored because they already had so much on their plates after Brekkers betrayal. But he couldn't deny that Kasper's enthusiasm was refreshing.
Before Warren could reply, Kasper was up and pacing, spitting out information, ideas, and questions. The last of which had Warren pausing to find the best way to answer. Instead, he reverted back to earlier points and reached into his desk, pulling out two sheets of parchment and sliding them across his desk to the young man who now looked at him. "To your first points, these are for you. The first is a statement of permission to retrieve the potions logs necessary to look into if any were taken that night or in the days leading up to it. The second is a list of servants and soldiers who could have been involved in the preparation or distribution of the wine. Should you find nothing in the potion inventory logs, I do believe looking into the shops in Skia would be the next best bet."
Once Kasper took the parchments, that left Warren to answer the question. "I certainly felt less in control of my emotions than I usually am. I was defensive, and a little possessive. I also spoke somewhat bluntly to a subordinate officer. I do not think these feelings were unknown to me, but I've never acted on them before." Although he wasn't proud of how he had acted at the ball, he knew it was important that they figure out what kind of potion could have been in the wine.

Kasper took the pieces of parchment offered and sat back down, he scanned over them as he listened to the Captain explain his actions at the ball. He would commit the words to memory before adding his next course of action, "I'll start with finding a Witch that specializes in potion making I think, if I can detail how you felt and how I felt, might look for one more just to be sure but I believe the right witch can help get us pointed in the right direction before I go to review our stockpiles," Kasper was already thinking ahead and if he could find the potion first then coordinating the dates of the ball and what was removed should easily lead him to their culprits.
Still he wanted the Captains opinion, "Does that sound pretty good to you sir?"
Warren nodded as Kasper spoke. That sounded like a good place to start. There was no point scouring documents and stockpiles and apothecaries in Skia if you didn't even know what you were looking for. To that end, someone specific came to mind. "Yes, that sounds like the best place to begin. I know of a woman whose specialty is in potion-making. If you describe the effects to her, I'm certain she can tell you exactly what kind of potion was used, and what the ingredients would be. If by chance a witch was the one who brewed the potion to spike the wine, you may want to see what ingredients were extracted from the stocks as well. Which ever proves me to be most useful first."
He wrote down the name and address on another parchment and gave that to him as well. "Her name is @temperance. She's close with another soldier, @berengar. Mr. Stormcrest acted quite unlike himself at the ball, so perhaps you could speak to him as well."

"Yes sir Captain, that's a great place to start," Kasper stood at attention ready to begin, "I'll start on this right away, I'll get Stormcrests assessment and I'll go see @temperance after. I'll have everything gathered and hopefully resolved before I deploy to Coheed in Vers, is there anything else Captain?"
"I believe you're more than capable," Warren agreed with a nod. "If you need anything further, do not hesitate to come to me." The eager man spoke quickly, with excitement, and Warren was just glad to have it all looked into. "No, that's all for now. You're dismissed."
