The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
In possession of a magical necklace that wards off offensive magic attacks against him, a ring that allows him to suppress magic, and can turn into werewolf at will.
The night of the full moon came to an end, and when the weak, human form of the king could be regained once more it was. He quickly dressed, donning his ring of suppression, and activated its magic to keep Alys in an unconscious state. He carried her from the forest floor and into the cabin, letting Regan Lassiter pass through to his study first before he changed the location and stepped into Alys’ study. A place she would be familiar. Comfortable when she awoke.
Regan had orders from Cassian to find his private healer, a witch who specialized in potions, and then to have a cot brought to her study. Everything was to be done with the highest level of secrecy; no word of this was to be breathed anywhere else. The explanation would be too complicated. It was dawn, anyway, so not many were out and about.
Cassian came into the study and found a place to sit. Alys was naked, and he dared not risk setting fabric on her raw skin.
When the healer with her helper and a cot entered, she was quick to instruct the king. She had him set Alys on the cot on her back, most burns being on her front, and immediately set to apply salves to the burns and trickling potions down her throat.
“This may not be enough.” She quietly informed him, but he already had his next plan in mind. He used the port key to open a portal to Arynn Frey. The healer’s assistant hurried through with a private word to discuss with Akagi: a request for healing aid once again. Should the prince comply, the assistant would escort him and whatever tools he required back to Alys’ study in Neveremere.
The night was long, and for the most of it, Alys had remained unconscious. Her body twitching with spasms of pain, small whimpers or growls sounding in her throat only to die off as the rumble from them was too much for the second and third degree burns that covered her.
If it wasn’t for Cassian’s suppression, his hold alone would’ve caused her to cry out in pain. She tasted each potion: bitter, sour, cold, one tangy. She swore she heard hushed voices, but everything wasn’t clear, it was foggy and she couldn’t place one voice to the next. Couldn’t place if she actually felt hands on her or didn’t. Not as she slipped between a place of fitful rest and a place of distant awareness.

The healers aid would have been lead into Akagi's workshop and the Prince once informed rushed into action without a second thought. He filled his bag of holding with not one but two healing tents, several pain buttons, and a few extra strength calming stones before returning with the aid. Stepping through the portal Akagi found his brother in law, a witch, and another he couldn't place a name to but his heart hurt seeing that the woman was very hurt.
Akagi didn't waste any time jumping into action first asking the aid to place a pain button and a calming stone in the injured woman's hand. Ripping his bag off Akagi then brought out the two healing tents and quickly went to work setting one up around the woman. It took no longer than ten minutes and it was running at full affect.

"Thank you." Cassian whispered to Akagi somewhere in between greeting his brother-in-law with his eyes and watching the Arynnite set to work. Akagi's loyalty had been invaluable of late, and Cassian knew a time would come when he would need to repay the debt. For now, however, he would quietly watch and appreciate the healing that would come to Alys as a result of Arynnite magic.
He wouldn't stay for long. Once Alys was stabilized by the anti-pain enchantments and the tent, Cassian would make a quiet exit, relinquishing her from the power of his ring as he went.
Alys would wake in a foggy haze sometime later, trying to make sense of her surroundings as her eyes blinked rapidly in the low light of the… room? She stared at the unfamiliar ceiling… a tent…? She knew tents, had lived in them before when helping move the mountains… but why… had they left her in the woods? She remembered running… the full moon… ‘I don’t believe you’… blinding rage and pain…
She sat up suddenly, but hissed as her body seemed to protest at the moment. Alys glanced around… it wasn’t a small tent. No, this reminded her of a medics tent… but it wasn’t in Nevermere… couldn’t have been. It was so very different. She didn’t get a chance to look at herself before her eyes fell onto a shadowed figure. “… Cassian?” Who else would be with her? Surely not Regan… the name alone sent every part of her tensing, darkness twisting in her gut.

The Prince of Arynn Frey had stayed to monitor who he had now learned was @alys, a honest to Goddess good friend of his plus it was better he felt for privacy if he was the charging of care provided. Akagi had paced and checked on Alys since his brother in laws departure, it was safe to say her wounds would heal better then Regan's had and all of this had created more questions for the foreign Prince. Twice now Cassian had brought two women in need of healing to Akagi and as his brother in law he did so without a single question nor had he told a single person.
When he wasn't pacing or attending to Alys the Prince had began to sketch or write, in fact he was writing his wife a poem when Alys spoke, she had called out for Cassian.
"I'm afraid it isn't the King, Alys," Akagi put his quill down turning toward her and moving to enter the tent, "It's Akagi...how do you feel right now?"
The voice was someone familiar… Akagi. A small breath of relief left her in the sense that it was someone she knew. He grew closer and she could make him out a lot easier, her eyes trailing him before back to the tent. “Prince Akagi,” she sagged slightly where she sat, closing her eyes and letting out a breath. “Itchy… like my skin is too tight…” she answered, looking down to her skin… patches of discoloration across her… some darker spots than others.
“Are we in Arynn Frey?” Alys asked, glancing at the tent walls but then returning her eyes to her body. Or… what she could see. “Is it… bad?” It had to be…. If he was called in.

Akagi gave a waning half smile, "You suffered some second and third degree burns friend, a dressing of some kind of healing ointment is currently covering the burns so you'll see them in time," he was blunt but kind as he delivered the news to Alys, he did stop to grab a new pain button and a calming stone before entering the tent, "here, please take these one is for any pain and the other is for peace," he stood beside her bed hands behind his back clasped as he looked down at his friend, "As much as I wish I could have enchanted an item to reach perfection unfortunately even Arynn Frey hasn't reached that, you'll have scars and some will be worse than others while some will fade...for now you will need to remain in this healing tent for a few more hours if not until tomorrow," while he wanted to say something on the subject of Logan Akagi refrained she didn't need that right now and he could guess she was emotionally still having a hard time, he couldn't imagine something happening to his Felita especially since their souls shared a more potent link literally, "and no we are in Nevermere, our Majesty had retrieved me and brought one of our healing tents and such."
What she could see wasn’t giving her much hope, nor was the tightness of her skin. Everything felt wrong, even her face felt as if it pulled in a strange way. Akagi entered the tent and offered the two small stones, she hesitated a moment, would they even be worth it? Could they really drown out the pain she was feeling or did it run too deeply, because it wasn’t just physical. As he seemed to settled at the bedside… she took the offered stones.
Some scars would heal and fade, others wouldn’t. Even with the sudden wash of the calming stone over her, she felt suffocated. Robbed. So she dropped the calming stone to the bed to let herself feel the emotions that had been suffocated. Tears built but didn’t fall, her chin tucking against her chest. It was when she didn’t feel the familiar brush of her hair against her shoulder that she twisted enough to look. Bandages mainly wrapped her torso, but no dark curls. Nothing… her free hand reached up and she felt the side of her head as dark eyes met Akagi’s face.
Wide with horror, she knew what she’d find as she pushed suddenly at the wrappings around her head. “No,” she pleaded softly. Her hand frantically pulling until it fell aside as she touched raw skin. No pain, but the skin was soft in a way that didn’t feel right. Bumpy with texture, no, scabs. But there was no dark curls. No soft brushes against her wrapped fingers. Not until she found the patch at the back of her head. Then another small one, but much shorter… the ends melted together in such a way that she knew they wouldn’t be saved. Alys knew that a tent around her surely wouldn’t fix that.
The world shifted under her, though it hadn’t moved an inch to anyone else. The weight of Logan suddenly barreled back down on her… the newly added weight that she felt like she lost a piece of Cassian now too. He hadn’t bothered to stick around, unless he was sitting outside the tent now. Zevran? Rune? She hadn’t seen them since the ball… hadn’t heard anything from them… a ragged breath left her as panic started to settle in. What was she now to anyone? Cassian and the Delaney’s had practically taken in her children… she no longer stood as a wife but a widow… she was outcasted and told to lay low all because she was trying to protect Regan and the others.
A strangled sound left her and she fumbled to find the calming stone. ‘Make it stop, make it stop…. Make it all stop,’ the thoughts forced a sob from her lips before she found the stone and it was washed away. Salty tears straining her cheeks and she bowed her head. “Another day?” She finally said after a long moment, embarrassed at the panic that had just threatened to swallow her under just then. All for the prince to witness. “I… thank you. For all that you were able to do.” She turned the stones over in her hands. “And these. Even if temporary.”
She had no right to ask. But the idea of Akagi… of anyone… leaving her along made her stomach sour even with the stone. “I don’t know when you are expected back?” Her way, by the way her voice lifted, of asking if he’d be departing right away.

Akagi could tell Alys was having a hard time maybe a bit more difficult than he could see or know, her question about his potienal quick departure pulled at the strings of the Princes heart. She needed someone here for her, "I'm not going anywhere Alys until I'm either dismissed or you get sick of me," he would sit in a chair that was under the tent very intent on following through with what he said. The calming stone did seem to be helping but he was ready to comfort his friend should she need it, "but for now I'm here fr you," she sounded like she needed it and in a way it did make him sad Cassian hadn't stayed, he would never say anything but Cassian must have had a special spot for Alys...for Regan...they weren't just anyone or some random injured person for the King to have asked for his help twice.
Akagi made it known, not just by telling her he’d be there, but moving the chair beside her bed within the tent. Even with the stones, she was overcome with a feeling of gratitude for him. “Thank you,” because who else would come to sit there? Logan was gone. Cassian… he was a king. Regan… certainly not. Alys didn’t want to face her for quite some time. Hadrian… had bigger worries. Besides, she had a feeling this wouldn’t be something broadcasted to the whole of Nevermere.
Hidden. Tucked away…
Alys settled back on the bed, careful considering she knew she was in more pain than she actually felt. “Will I be able to resume life once I leave the tent, or will there still be time to recover?” She asked, turning her head towards him. The urge to thank him again for staying was almost overwhelming, but instead she turned the stones in her hands. “If we are in my office… the lounge isn’t a grand bed by any means but it’s comfortable,” she offered.

Akagi sat back in his chair crossing one leg over the other resting his hands in his lap, "Once you leave this tent it will have ran its full course as far as healing, I will recommend you carry with you a few pain buttons for comfort, but you will be able to return to a regular daily routine," he offered a kind smile to help with what might be a blow in itself, "Now there will be scaring Alys, and for that I'm sorry, something I can remedy with a enchantment or two for cosmetics of course if you wish...the least I could do for the offer of the lounge bed, which I appreciate full heartily."
Her jaw worked, subtle in a way, but with their closeness he might notice it. She’d still possibly be in pain after this, something that wouldn’t truly go away. All because someone had been trusted far too much, too quickly, and remained untrained as she should be. Uncontrollable. Allowed into an inner circle that had its ways and now… Alys wanted to slam her fists down on the table. Hadn’t she suffered enough?
But thankfully, Akagi pressed forward and finished delivering the news. These scars wouldn’t fade completely. She’d remain marked by this… a reminder of the failure that she now saw so blatantly clear. Not her own. But that of others. She wanted to tear the bandages off, to see what it’d be like. Instead she laughed, a bit humorously, when he offered to make he something to try and cover up what was left behind. All because of her offer of a lounge.
“Soldiers aren’t meant to be pretty,” she said with a small shake of her head. Though she knew she wasn’t just some soldier. Hadn’t been in a long time. “I’d rather know nothing like this could happen again, over having a face others would want to gaze upon.” She knew by touch, as she ran her fingers down her face, not everything was scarred. Some of it had healed, but she knew where eyes would be drawn, the burns that remained down the left side of her face… how her face was turned when the flames were ignited.
Alys took a deep breath, plucking at the sheet over her, realizing it was the only other thing keeping her decent in front of him outside of the bandages. “I’m assuming you heard about Logan?” She murmured softly, looking over at the prince. Logan and Akagi had been friends, or somewhat of friends from her understanding. But she didn’t want to just assume he knew.

Akagi was struggling with his caring nature to comfort those in any kind of pain: physical or emotional. He saw how her jaw worked itself, the way her body seemed to tense here and there, watched as she skimmed over the burns that would remain. He felt sad for her and for Regan, he wanted to have grabbed them by their faces and made them look him in the eyes as if he could will the truth into both of them that they were still beautiful and powerful women! That yes these scars are enduring but they yielded stories few human could ever experience...and they both came out of it changed, tales of caution or heroism, it was open for all interpretations.
Yet she stopped him from acting on his nature with the mentioning of Logan and his head dropped, his smile dropped and he would attempt to take her hand in his, "I...I did, and I would have given my condolences if these weren't the circumstances and to not burden you with...sadness...," but seriously, "I'm sorry Alys, truly from deep down I am sorry about Logan. He's still considered a close friend to me...I know you love him..."
Alys was shaking her head almost instantly when he started to apologize and give his condolences. “No, there is no need.” She assured him, running her hands down her thighs almost nervously. “I just… wanted to make sure you knew. That he-,” that his curse took control. That it stole the Logan she had fallen in love with long ago. And when he saw he was a danger… he let it destroy himself away from her and their children.
“I do love him. I think a part of me always will.” She felt the ache pick up in her again and she brushed her bandaged hand against her eyes to try and keep them from leaking again. “I just hope the twins remember him, remember the good as they get older.” She murmurs before laying back again. Her head resting against a pillow with a long breath being released. “Thanks again. For what you healed… was-“ she pursed her lips, staring at the tent ceiling. “Was it really bad when you came?”
