The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

If there was one range of emotion Akagi had never really flexed it was sadness and it was crying, he did his best to wipe them from his eyes as Alys spoke all of it gripped at his heart quiet strongly from her still professed love to the twins Atlas and Adalyn (he recalled). It was all so profoundly beautiful and sad, he truly wished nothing but peace for the woman and the twins.
"sorry," he chokingly apologized with a the hint of a sad smile that didn't reach his eyes, he wiped wetness away again, "That was beautiful Alys, I don't cry often and when I do it truly means a lot" so he lied, a white little lie for her, "it really wasn't that bad, I promise I've seen worse...you are still going to be a beautiful woman."
Her head turned quickly towards him at the sound of his voice, the emotion that was behind it catching her off guard a bit. Her eyes softened, giving him a tight lipped smile before she listened to him promise to her that he had seen worse. But it was her laugh, a barking, bitter laugh that left her when he said she was going to still be a beautiful woman. "Being nice and lying to me are two different things, Prince Akagi," she stared above her. Not much else to look at without her wanting to rip every binding from her.
"I don't ever want this to happen again." She murmured softly. "I was caught off guard... I didn't think I had to watch my back like that, not with them... and-," She stopped herself, the burn in her eyes making her squeeze them shut.

"A prince never lies my lady, ever," he reassured her of his answer and he was going to stick by it. Still the way she sounded so hurt touched a cord within his heart, she was hurting and that didn't sit right with Akagi. He did the only thing he knew how to do when someone was sad and hurt he moved from the chair and sat beside her if she allowed it and put a arm around her shoulder softly, "let it out Alys...cry or scream...or we can just sit in venting silence, I'll be here for you friend."
He moved, and instinctively she tracked him. She meant what she said, felt like something had broke in her to know how she could truly not be safe anywhere with others now. Or that was how she felt. Yet she didn't stop him, not as he sat beside him, or his hand touched her shoulder which made her wince and turn her face towards him. Pressing her cheek to his thigh where he sat and she laid. But it as his offer to let go, to let out everything, that opened the dam within her.
At first it was just silent tears, her lip wavering as she fought the reaction, her hands trembling with restraint. She had lost so much... so much. Then a sob, which sounded more like a sniffle at first sounded from her as her shoulders sagged. And then she cried. Pressing her face into him and letting herself cry with the grief and anger and complete feeling of loss in that moment. Weak before a Prince, one who wasn't even from her own kingdom, one who was nice enough to extend a helping hand because her King had asked...

And Akagi sat quiet and reflective, supportive of Alys and her emotional dispel of sadness through tears and sobbing. He didn't speak only gave comfort as he would his own children when they were hurt or sad, he combed through her curls with gentle fingers and he just let her cry...
She wasn't sure when it happened, but eventually Alys' eyes didn't reopen as she cried. Her breathing evening out and a fitful sleep taking over. Her hand fisted the material of his pants, right below where her head rested. Where his fingers carefully and delicately ran through what was left of those dark curls. She didn't say anything when his fingers would catch on the pieces that had burned together, knowing that no sort of brushing was going to untangle the ends that had fused together.
Yet eventually, sleep found her. She'd think it because of the healing tent, of the pain and calm stones that she shifted to grab at one point in her hands and eased back her pain. She wouldn't wake until the next day, or maybe it was only an hour. She wasn't sure, but when her eyes opened again, she didn't know what she'd find. An empty tent? A room? Certainly not a dream as the bandages pulled on her body just enough to tell her that all of that had been real...

She'd wake to find the Prince asleep in the chair he had dragged into the tent, a hand rested under his chin, one leg crossed over the other with a book of parchment in his lap, and on this parchment was a sketching of Alys...
He had delicately moved her at some point (when he couldn't feel his leg) and moved her with precision a parent wields when moving a sleeping baby from arm to arm or from arm to bed. Akagi had promised to stay with her and he occupied his time with his art finishing before finally drifting to the sleep he still lingered in even as Alys woke.
Seeing the figure in the chair had her blink a few times, her mind twisting his shadow from one to another in her mind... until finally it settled in her mind the familiar figure of Akagi. She laid for a moment longer, observing his deep breaths as he slept until she noticed the paper on his lap. Curiosity got the better of her, her feet slipping from the covers and slowly standing, making her way over until she could make out the familiar face that stared up at her.
Her hands took the paper, smoothing out the edges before she brushed a thumb over the dark curls around her face... the light shading of the flower. A drop hit the page, at the bottom, before a second one did, by the third one she realized she was crying and quickly moved the paper back to his lap so she didn't ruin it. A memoir of her past. She glanced around the tent, looking at the healing tools and supplies that he had in there, before the walls of it.
Was it possible to improve such a thing? "Akagi?" She turned to him, her hand reaching to lay on his shoulder. "You can't be comfortable in the seat," she spoke softly.

Akagi woke as peaceful as he looked sleeping, Alys was gentle of course when she woke him it garnered a smile from the Prince, "Good morning," he yawned stretching, "No, I actually slept like a baby," he stood closing his sketchbook and his back popped, "besides how you do feel, how do you feel this morning? I'd like to perhaps get a nurse witch in here soon to change your bandages, should I also send for the King?"
When he turned down the bed, she slowly sank back onto it herself. She shrugged one of her shoulders, unsure how she should actually feel. "I... am assuming the pain will eventually go away?" It was meant to sound hopeful as she picked at the edge of one of her bandages. But it was the mention of sending for the king that made her freeze. "No," she breathed it gently. "I'm sure he'll come when he is... ready to." Her eyes skipped around the tent. "Once the tent goes away, do I need to do anything else? To keep myself together?" The 'physically' part she didn't speak, but she knew there was no fixing what was going on in her mind right then.

"The pain will pass, the physical at least," he said sympathetically, "I recommend at least for the next few days, let's say a week, spend the night inside the tent while you sleep and when you aren't in the tent carry a pain stone...I will be sending you more and some calming stones for peace of mind or what I can afford you."
Akagi wouldn't send for Cassian, if the lady said no then he would abide out of respect but Alys needed someone and if he could stay Akagi would but he had duties himself.
So a few more nights, she'd have to take note of how it was set up so she could build it each night... or perhaps just have it moved to her room in the castle rather then just her office. It was taking up quite a bit of usable space and yet... part of her felt no desire, for the first time, to pick up anything in the room and move forward. Like a part of her truly felt that defeat and it had done something to squash whatever drive she had that always pushed her...
Replaced. No longer needed. Weak. Her jaw feathered at that voice and she instead focused on Akagi. Nodding her head in understanding. "Thank you, for everything." She truly meant it, "And if you ever need anything... please Akagi. You know where to find me."

"My pleasure truthfully Alys Delaney, and I offer you the same," he reached into his pocket, "The tent is easily broke down and to set up, there is a stone that when you rub your finger over it will collapse it and that same stone again once touched will erect the tent for you...but this..," he pulled out a beautiful white stone, his portal making stone that he had since he was sixteen he touched the door in the room which opened into his workshop and not the palace as one would expect, "if you ever need a break from well anything use this...take a vacation...visit me...anywhere you can think that has a door this will get you there," Akagi stepped through the door before she could deny the gift shoving the stone in her hand, "take care Alys Delaney...," and he closed the door.
