The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Kat had woken up with a hell of a hangover after Othello's party but she had remembered a good portion of the night. And she remembered Elletta's name now that she wasn't drunk as a skunk. Ooops. But at least she hadn't guessed out loud, at least she didn't think she did. Or maybe she had but she didn't really care either way.
So she had scheduled time at the training grounds and had soldier on staff duty go and get Elletta. She had been told she should prove she could train witches. And so she would do just that. Elletta, while a bit odd, was strong, and would a good test subject for her methods. That and she already had a basic grasp as every witch should.
Pacing, she waited, wondering if it would have been quick to just portal around the snatch her up. Meh, this would have to do.
Elletta was not expecting to be summoned, much less by Ranger Winters and so it was with a slight touch of apprehension that she made her way to the training yard. She wasn't sure if the witch liked her or not but at least they both seemed to have similar opinions on the Huntsman Lassiter even if Elletta never voiced hers. (And was resolutely in denial about why she didn't like her either.)
Walking into the training yard, she greeted Winters with a salute and stood at attention. The shallow cut on her hand was scabbed over under the thin cloth wrap. Nothing major and not anything that would inhibit any training.
As Elletta did some salute thing, Kat rolled her eyes and waved her hand. "None of that. Save that for the hoity toities." She didn't need to have people walking around saluting her, didn't want it either. She was slightly surprised when she realized that she didn't like it. Power-trips were usually fun, but when forced, it was empty.
"How are you coming along with your magic?" She knew the woman didn't come from any strong coven, and she knew how hard it could be to get the right instruction. The stuff that mattered and was off book.
Well that was definitely good to know and saved that thought for later. Elletta was starting to like her more already, especially after the previous night.
"I'm coming along a bit. Better than I used ta be but haven't had as much time as I used ta have for it since medic training was added to my schedule."
Kat shook her head. "Don't let a shit schedule get in your way of practicing it." Magic was what separated them from other kingdoms, and even from the men of Nevermere. They were stronger for it in a way that needed to be used. Not for pranks or for trivial things such as grudges, although if that's what it took to practice then so be it. No it was going to be needed, clearly Nevermere was heading in many different directions.
"What's your weakest point?" Find the weakness, beat it until it was stronger. That's how things worked, and that's how magic would bend to you.
Elletta didn't give a snap answer, but actually gave it some good thought. Her strengths were easy: her archery, hand-to-hand, and her adaptability. Her other skills weren't terrible and better than some of the other soldiers, certainly, but that didn't mean it wasn't her own weakness anyway.
"Compared to my hand-to-hand and my archery, it would be the sword and my magic." She wasn't ashamed but just stating the facts as she knew them.
Kat clicked her tongue against her teeth. "I meant in magic, what's your weakest point, do keep up we both don't have a lot of time." She wasn't being intentionally cruel, but they really needed to focus. She had ranger training on top of her new duties as an officer, and clearly Elletta had a pile of things to do as well.
"Do you use it in combat? How are your incantations, that kind of thing. Someone else can teach you to swing a sword." But Kat wanted to help her use her weapons and her magic. Or magic she hadn't used yet. There was something in Elletta that struck a chord with her, and so she was ready to put a little work in.
Her weakness specifically with her magic? That was easier to pin point, much easier since she didn't use magic as much as she probably should.
"While I don't know that many, the incantations that I know, I'm good with and same for the summons. Can use those pretty easily in a fight." Mainly because they were quicker and faster to use than curses for her. She liked quick and snappy, things she could do on the fly because once she got going, especially when it came down to only using her hands in a fight, she operated more on instinct than anything else. "Curses, I've had trouble with."

Kat nodded her head. "Then let's work on more versatile incantations and curses." She could do this. Clearly Elletta had a good base to start with, although clearly not diverse and very much from the Nevermere training. The curses was easy enough, and so she figured that's where she'd start.
"Right curses, the simple stuff is easy enough. You focus the magic and try not to let emotions pull you from the goal. Anger can only be so helpful, it can often give the curse a short-fuse. It's unpredictable and add the range of emotions?" Squaring her shoulders she looked at Elletta. "But other things can focus the energy, blood of the person you are cursing, hair can do in a pinch, and personal items can be key."
Opening her arms she gestured at herself. "Curse me. Punish me for something, anything."
