The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
The Vers games and the Ver harvest time was upon Coheed again, it wasn't like Gjødselfest in the least. No it was a festival in honor to the warriors of Coheed and now the Parabolti, it was for the farmers and a bounty of luck for a promising harvest from the fields. This year again Nevermere soldiers joined in the festivities even in the games if they so chose, games which ranged from one on one fights, group fights, wild exotic beasts (wild animals caught prior or even some were breed from long lines of beasts), and challenges of feats of strength.
Food, oh so much food: pigs big succulent ones buried under ground to cook all day before the start of the festival, all the meats really but nothing topped all the pigs. Vegetables of course cooked and prepped in all manners steamed, fried, boiled, souped, raw, and broiled. They had swill, meade, beer, Nevermere wine and imported whiskeys.
The day started with one of the largest first bloods in almost a decade! Young men AND young women had approached their respective ages to participate. The stands were full, the streets around the fighting pits were lined with fires and stalls with food, vendors sold trinkets and sloshed out cups of homemade alcoholic beverages. Coheedain and Nevermeren alike meshed and mingled throughout the day. There was a stand for sign ups for the games to be hosted later man or woman, Coheed or Nevermere, could sign up for one of the following:
ONE vs ONE (a single one on one fight; first to pin, submit, or knockout)
BEAST BRAWL (fight a randomly drawn wild/breed beast of nature)
GAMES OF VARIOUS STRENGTHS (groups will compete against each other in eliminations the games will revolve around endurance, strength, speed, and accuracy)
(this thread is for the rest of Coheed and Nevermere characters in Gilead! This thread is for fun and is a group thread; if your character is signing up for one of the games please just put a note at the end of your first post stating which of the three they wish to compete in; as a side note any of the participants in the other thread who wish to compete send me a DM)

Kasper was on "duty", he wore his uniform and walked the festival streets. He hoped @faylin would be okay with the Governor and his people, but he knew the woman could handle herself. He didn't hesitate to eat as he patrolled because these Coheed women could cook! He saw the sign ups as he held a large hock of ham in one hand and he couldn't help but make a direct cut through the crowd toward it: they had three series of competitions. Eyes were turning to watch him as he approached the sign ups for the beast battles.
"ah little soldier are you lost?" the large tattooed man behind the stacked wooden crates greeted Kasper with a sarcastic smile, Kasper grinned back at him, "No sir, I want to compete in this beast battle," Kasper said enthusiastically and the man was surprised, "Nevermere soldier?"
"Sergeant Kasper Van Zant, yes sir," Kasper answered proudly.
The man waved his hands, "No more sirs please, I call you Kaspera and you call me Boros, deal?"
Kasper smirked with a nod, "Deal si-Boros, but I still want to compete in the beast battle."
Boros looked Kasper over, he had lived many years and ran the beast battles since he was about this boys age. No Nevermere man had competed against some of the creatures he wrested, he saw some of the strongest Coheedsmen fall savagely and brutally in the pits. He picked up the charcoal chunk and with his eyes he looked at the parchment, "just out your name there Kasper," and with his left Kasper took the charcoal and scribbled his name down, "Good luck friend," Kasper took two fingers touched his forehead and gave a little salute, "Thanks Boros."
Though Catrin was expected to join the Chieftain at the main table for the feast, she made sure to stop by the stand to sign up for the day's festivities. Even as the man sneered down at her, she would dutifully ignore him as she had her name listed for both the one on one, and the beast battle.
And then with a small smirk of her own at the man, she added herself, @miriel, and Imani to the list for the group fights. The first time a full Parabolti group would participate in the festival. She'd then leave the grumbling man behind, heading to gather Miriel and be on their way to fill their stomachs.

Iadrik walked the streets with everyone else in celebration of the Ver Harvest games. His children and wives all walked with him: Lokke and Cagen stood to his left and right, while Kira stood immediately behind him carrying their youngest, Andrik, followed by his daughters Ina and Heva, and his second wife, Seiya, bringing up the end of the line. These festivities could not be taken away from them, even by Nevermere. As he glanced around, seeing his kinsmen eating, drinking, and being generally merry, he could feel nothing but excitement.
"I should be fighting in my first blood this year!" Lokke said, his arms crossed angrily. Iadrik reached down and ruffled his sons dark hair, merely laughing.
"I appreciate your enthusiasm, son, but you've got at least four years before you can participate. Men do not get upset over such things. We can't make time move any faster." He glanced back at his family, making sure they remained behind him. It was more of a protective measure than anything - you never knew what the drunken Coheedsmen would do when all riled up. "Besides, you'll have to help keep an eye on your mother, sisters, and Seiya. Once the games begin, I won't be able to do it. Understood?"
"Yes, father," the kid said, a little disappointed, but otherwise letting go of the tantrum he had been momentarily so close to.
"Good. Now, where's those sign ups? What shall I do this year?"
"You did the beast brawl last year," Lokke replied.
"And the one on one fight the year before that," Cagen added.
"The games it is, then!" He said, approaching the parchment and scribbling his name down with the charcoal. "Now, let's go find us something to eat!"

There was nothing wrong with tradition, Leander knew. The old ways of life had kept Coheed strong for generations and would continue to do so if the new generations of Coheedsmen would only let them, rather than allow Nevermere to pollute their minds and bring their kingdom to its knees. Ozias Sorenson had taught him that, and these Ver Games were a clear symptom of the underlying problem.
Men did not compete against females.
A competition implied the possibility of equality between competitors, where either party could rise superior to the other. That was simply untrue. There was no competition against the lesser sex, and to even allow the suggestion of equality between men and females was to admit to the weakness that plagued Coheed. The latter ought never have been allowed to form their wannabe-warrior group in the first place. It put the wrong ideas in their little heads, made them think that they could exist for any other reason than the pleasure of their betters and the production of strong sons. Nevermere was to blame for planting that seed, but Kaalim and Rian had watered and nursed it to life. Now, a traditional festival to honor the warriors of Coheed included not only Nevermerean soldiers but also females. The infection had spread far and wide and made fools of everyone.
Almost everyone. Leander was no fool. He knew his strengths, but more importantly, he recognized his weaknesses. His wife and daughters were safely sequestered away where no Coheedsmen could think to claim them, but he had brought his young son, Koe, with him to the festivities. The boy walked beside him, wide-eyed and full of energy as he tugged at the hand his father kept tightly held with his own. The night before, he had wanted Leander to test his strength against an array of wild beasts, but the warrior in question knew better than to invite such ridicule. Not every man’s strength lay so literally in sheer size and power. Some had to be clever and quick. Koe would see. Probably.
After a quick scan of the competition, Leander ignored the sneering Coheedsman by the parchment and added his name to list.

Kasper hung around the sign up area for the games seeing who all signed up, it wasn't bad to peak the competition but still he had been the only Nevermeren so far to sign up. He listened to @ladrik and @leander with their children as they signed up, as @ladrik began to walk away he decided to spark a conversation, "These games sir, they seem pretty fucking intense, I signed up for the beast battles myself," he had finished his hock of ham earlier so he extended a hand, "Sergeant Kasper Van Zant..."

As it was her downtime Zarha thought she should go to the games and check it out. Never really been one for games, thinking that it is all child play that distracts you from work and training. What the point of it really? However, she can't show that she hates their traditions by not showing up. So she still turned up to the games in her soldiers uniform as she walked around. Seeing what is what.
One person she noticed was @iadrik, she takes a deep breath and carried on walking around and she walked over to where the signs up and she looked at what they are and thought if Iadrik was here to give him a chance to shut up and she signed up to beast Games.
Once done she looked around and saw Kasper Van Zant talking to Iadrik and another coheedian man he needs all the luck possible with them.
Iadrik had noticed Kasper Van Zant standing by the sign up sheets, but hadn't intended on saying anything until he was spoken to. He was clearly Nevermeran. If it hadn't been obvious by the way he spoke, it was clear in his look. In or out of uniform, Iadrik could tell the Nevermeran's by the way they held themselves.
But he smiled fondly, removing his hand from his son's head and clapping the soldier on the shoulder. "Call me Iadrik, we seem to be near enough in age, or do I look so much older than you?" He said, laughing, though there was a subtle seriousness to his tone. "Kasper it is! You're right though, the games are intense. It's an honor merely to compete. I'm glad that we can now test our strengths against your soldiers. The beasts are no small challenge, but you look to be a hardy man. I'm sure you'll exit the arena covered in the blood of your prey and the women will swarm to celebrate you!"
Torsten remembered @miriel and he stepped forward to sign himself up for the Beat Brawl. He wasn't an officer or a Coheedsman, but Tor was going to give a shot. He moved ahead in line and was yet again glad at seeing someone his own height. Tor felt much more normal here.
"Torsten Mosse. Sign me up for the Beast Brawl Sir." he said, looking around him like a big kid in a candy store.
The man with the sign up sheet eyed him for a moment and it sounded like he was repeating himself for the millionth time.
"Ya Nevermere soldiers are Sirring me ta death. Yer signed Torsten, move it along kid."

"I'd say we're pretty close in age Iadrik yeah, don't let my size fool you but I'm a bit of a beast myself," he seemed to have stood a bit taller as he spoke shrugging, "Use to hunt with my pa, wild boar once or twice and a Bob cat when I was seven and killed my first bear when I was nine with just a spear," he did shrug, "of course that's on the field of stealth and hunting, ain't never had to face a wild creature when it knew I was hunting it...so it'll be a neat learning curve, you ever heard of betting?"

As Zarha perused the ongoing tasks, she couldn't help but notice Torsten signing up for one of them. With a sense of intrigued, she wished him the best of luck in his chosen endeavour, knowing full well that he was a force to be reckoned with. The tasks themselves were nothing short of intriguing, and she was eager to witness the participation of the soldiers and warriors. As for herself, she was more than ready to partake in the activities and had grown increasingly curious about the creature she would be battling. All in all, she was more than ready for whatever lay ahead.
Having a range of strategies at her disposal is crucial for her to navigate any potential challenges that may arise. It's impossible to anticipate the specific tactics of a creature she may encounter - whether it relies on speed and agility or brute strength - which will ultimately dictate her response to the situation. As such, it's essential for her to be well-prepared and adaptable in order to effectively handle whatever comes her way.
"I don't doubt you at all," Iadrik lied, reaching forward to clap his hands around Kasper Van Zant's upper arms. "Your clothes are just too loose to show off the strength of your body." That humorous tone remained, underlying his words with a sense of sarcasm. He was not impressed by the Nevermeran in front of him, nor any Nevermeran, but he could smile and play the role until the tournament proved them incapable of following through.
"A truly impressive hunting record," he noted. "A bear with a spear at such a young age? I think you would find that many of our Coheedsmen could not have accomplished that. Now that you've talked yourself up, I'm eager to see you in the battle." His eyes narrowed some, a look of confusion when Kasper spoke of betting. "Betting? No, I've never heard of -- I'm kidding. Do you really think we don't place wagers for this events? It's the best time of the year to do so, my new friend! Did you have something in mind?"

Kasper grinned like the trash panda he was born to be, "I fuckin' knew it, games like these, the Van Zant eye and we could truly make a killing," Kasper held up the wrist with the bracer and with a small step backwards the bracer triggers its shield, "One of a kind..."
