@katerina
Nadine's brow furrowed against her already scrunched eyes, shifting as yet another pebble poked into her thigh. This was supposed to be a relaxing exercise, soothing for the muscles and mind. Instead it was becoming a point of increasing frustration for the officer, who was not seeing any benefit to this whole "mindfulness" thing. With a sigh and groan of frustration, Nadine plopped her hands by her sides, lip drawn up in a pout as she stared across the ocean.
Once again she had been left out of the big brass's special missions. Even the haughty kid @berengar got to go. And where was she? Stuck on babysitting duty, like some cruel trick of the Goddess...again. As if she didn't beat herself up enough for her choice to sacrifice her unborn child to save her squad. But it had to be done at the time: she and the baby would have died otherwise, not to mention others who had families of their own. She'd reasoned similar things in the past, and it did little to help assuage the guilt. The drinking helped her forget, but now that she was back with Aldrich...she thought about it. It dampened her enjoyment of their bedroom activities more than she would like. After all, the baby had been his. She hadn't told him at the time, had planned to give up the child to one of the many orphanages and move on with her life. But soon she was getting married to the man: didn't he deserve to know the type of witch he was about to devote his life to? Maybe he'd back out. Maybe not.
The possible scenarios and eventualities running through her mind had left the officer in a constant state of headache, which had brought her to the rocky beach to begin with. But it wasn't helping, only leaving more silence for those rampaging thoughts to fill.
She almost stood to leave, then noticed another woman walking along the shoreline. "Evenin' Winters," Nadine called out with a stretch, recognizing her fellow officer. "You tryna find a bit of peace too?"
