(Lyla’s secret hope for him is that one day he finds someone who can actually get inside all his shields and he truly cares about)

Reputation: Ares and his father Idris are well known in the upper echelons of Nevermere society. Since Ares was a young boy he trailed along after his father at court like a shadow and learned all there was to know about being among important people. More than that he learned how to listen and to keep an eye out for information that might be useful to relay back to the family. As such he has ‘befriended’ many nobles along the way but Ares sees most of them as a means of information and influence more than actual friends. Not that any of them realize that.

Ares is seen as someone who is charming and confident. It’s not hard for him to get along with people because he plays on what he knows about people to befriend them and finds ways to subtly manipulate them. Lies, flattery, and general deceit are easier to him than actual honesty and authenticity. If he has a purpose for you then he’ll find a way to achieve that purpose. With Machiavellianism tendencies, his true nature is that he’s out for information, power, and his own ambition, using others along the way to get there. Control is an addictive drug and he gets a high and pleasure out of having control over someone else.

Combat Experience: Expertly and mandatorily trained since he was a very young child by the Bashar family, Ares has always been around combat and training. He completed his mandatory training of course, though it was under the command of his uncle on the Bashar lands. Post training he continued within their family military and was paired with his sister when she was old enough.

Tale:
Being born into the Bashar family meant that Ares’ life looked a little different than the rest of Nevermere. Born after the curse had been cast, his family had already been living at Lakeview Keep at the time of his birth. First born child to Idris, Ibrahim’s youngest brother, and his wife Camille he was taught the ways and opinions of the Bashar since his birth. Ellis good. Rainecourt bad. Simple enough. And it made sense. The Rainecourts were the usurpers after all.

His father had the role in the family of finding out information about Skia and the Rainecourts, which meant he was a courtier in Skia. By the time Ares was 8 he had begun to accompany his father on trips to Skia. As he grew into a teenager those trips became more often, going with his father nearly every time as a means to train his son to one day take on the role.

Ares had no interest in marriage and in spite of encouragement from his parents, especially his mother, to find a good match, Ares put almost no effort into doing so. By the time he was 22 his time was up and a match was made with a young woman in their community by the name of Eris Cross. Their marriage wasn’t a happy one. Ares paid little attention to his wife and though she was desperate for a child, he rarely even engaged in the act with her that would produce one. He simply found her to be a thorn in his side rather than someone he wanted to spend time with. Disinterest eventually turned into abuse in nearly every way abuse could happen though Eris never spoke out, afraid of what Ares would do if she said anything. In an effort to get away from Ares, she started to talk about how the Rainecourts really weren’t that bad, going against everything the family stood for. Her plan worked, to an extent. While divorce was rare in Nevermere, their marriage ended, something that is not known outside the family that he was ever married, let alone divorced. However, it was also under the guise that Eris had gone literally insane and was a danger to everyone around her. This landed her in Beldam. Away from Ares, yes, but away from everyone else too, trapped in a prison who thought she was insane.

That was all when Ares was 27 and he has been single again for nearly a year, enjoying his freedom. However, especially with no children of his own, marriage is being brought up once again, something he’ll have to face one of these days.

When his sister, Violet, was 18 and Ares was 25 she was adept enough at her magic that Ares proposed the idea that the two of them should be a werewolf/witch pair in his uncle's less than legal troops. They already knew they worked together well in combat, having trained together often and though it wasn’t common that a brother and sister were paired, Ares convinced Violet that it was a good idea. He then took that idea to his uncle and laid out the reasons for Ibrahim as well. The arguments were sound and Ibrahim approved of the match. They went through the Sarilla Ritual, leaving Violet scared as per tradition. It’s a mark that Ares finds a lot of pride in.

When his father became ill it was with an illness that no one could quite pinpoint the source. Now, bedridden, he has just officially given up his own role in the family to Ares, giving him the role of head informant, something that Ares is very excited about even at the expense of his father’s health. Ares has been spending his focus split between two things, his role as courtier and informant for the family and his pair with Violet in which they train together often.
