PARIS BASHAR
GENERAL
Age: Twenty-five
Birth Season: Spring
Occupation: Nobleman
Kingdom: Nevermere
Citizen Status: Nobleman
PHYSICAL
Weight: 150 lbs
Body Description: Paris dances on the line between masculine and feminine—or at least, as much as is permissible in Nevermerean society without attracting attention. His features are handsome but not remarkably so (particularly in comparison to his cousin). His build is muscular but slim, giving him a slight appearance that carries a presence of elegance, not that of a virile man. His dress doesn’t help matters; he is always well groomed and, when he is feeling daring, adds more feminine flounce to his appearance that is met with mockery by his sister and skepticism by his father. But, all and all, Paris passes as an average Nevermerean noble.
PERSONAL
Family Loyalty: Paris is loyal to his father and family, which in his view means servitude to the greater whole and compliance with his father’s wishes, even when he disagrees (though he does respectfully voice his opinion when appropriate). Even when he is at odds with his sister Lis—which is often—his love for her is deep and unwavering. He puts family before self, regardless of whatever it might cost him personally.
Harmony: Paris is a skilled negotiator and peacekeeper by nature. He believes any conflict can be solved rationally, so long as the parties involved are willing to come to the table with an open mind and selfless attitude. Keeping the family as a unified front is his first priority, which often involves massaging ego and facilitating reconciliation behind the scenes. He has an enormous capacity for empathy and is highly perceptive when it comes to the emotional states of those he’s close to.
Tradition: Paris, like his father, believes in the old ways of Nevermere. An Ellis king should sit on the throne, and the kingdom should divest itself from meddling in foreign affairs. Women are meant to be wives and mothers, using their witch magic for the betterment of Nevermerean society as directed by the men who lead it. There should be little involvement of women in combat, though desperate times do call for desperate measures when it comes to retaking the throne. If only things would return to the way they used to be. Only then Paris might fit the masculine mold his father cast for him.
Aspirations/Ambitions: Returning an Ellis to the throne, Living up to his father's legacy, "Fixing" his "deviant ways"
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Reputation: Paris is a man of few words, but when he speaks people often listen. He is thoughtful and perceptive, examining every side of a situation before forming an opinion. He has a remarkable ability to understand the motivations of others, even if they are ones that should not be justified. Though some might find him a little odd, most respect him as a man of integrity and reason. There are few who know about the skeletons in the closet of his personality: his fear, his self-loathing, his disdain for the opposite sex. He keeps those bodies buried deep, hoping that they will never be unearthed.
Combat Experience: Paris is as well-trained in combat as any other Bashar. He lacks the physical strength to be a well-rounded warrior, heavily favoring ranged weapons over all else. He’s a highly skilled archer and ranger, though that is not of great value when you are a mediocre swordsman at best. He favors the longbow and is considered a deadshot.
MAGIC
HISTORY
Tale:
The eldest son of Ibrahim, Paris grew up in his father’s shadow, though he has never sought to overcome it. From the moment he could first speak, everything Paris did was to meet his father’s expectations and do his family name justice. As a child, he drank in his father’s every word about the value of the old ways and the need to return to them. His commitment to see an Ellis on the throne was as powerful as any—both as a matter of family pride and one of ideology. The Ellis ways were best. Tradition needed to be restored, and Paris would diligently play his part in seeing it so.
But from the beginning, Paris knew he was not like his cousins and the other men of the family. He shied from conflict and violence, playing the role of peacemaker and negotiator. His energy was feminine rather than masculine, soft instead of abrasive. This was explained away easily enough, but Paris harbored a secret that started small and only grew. He did not desire women, but rather the men who caught his lingering eye. The inclination terrified him but, as a teen, his curiosity got the better of him. Harmless ogling, peeping when he could, turned to action.
The first encounter happened when he was fifteen and his cousin, Ares Bashar , was seventeen. Ares was the one to make a move, drawing Paris in, their flirtation turning into something far more physical. Their encounter (so far as Paris is aware) remains a secret between the two of them—one that Ares will forever have as leverage. Despite this, Paris’s mind ofter returns to that moment, far more than he’d like to admit.
The second was when he was older with a man who was intended to be a suitor for his sister, Lisette. Perhaps the suitor was just curious, but Paris had convinced himself that he was in love. It was a fleeting moment, but one of unmistakable closeness and tenderness; one interrupted by his sister. What she saw was not incriminating, but suspicious enough to break what would have been a good match.
This drove Paris’s desires even further underground. It was then that his second, new secret became increasingly problematic: impotence. Fortunately for Paris, his father has not yet been able to secure a match worthy of a Bashar son, buying Paris time to ‘fix’ himself. Surely it is the fault of women: now embracing masculine ways instead of embracing the traditional ways of Nevermere. If only they could return to the traditional ways, then he might be whole. If only.
