The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
With the Chaudhari speciality and business being in growing rare elements used for potion and curses, it wasn’t a surprise when they were called on for items or requests. But what was less often was the crown calling on them. Naturally, the Superior (or head witch) of the family was the one who stepped up to meet with the King. If she hadn’t been available, their elder witch would have gone, but the head was not missing a chance to make face with him.
Naturally they wanted to be prepared, so Veda had been sent ahead with a bag to prepare the room with. Of course, she was met with guards who shuffled through the bag, eyeing the supplies but she assured them that they were packaged just correctly and would be set up along the back of the room. The poisonous plants jarred for safety. She had her uniform on, dark hair slicked back in a high ponytail, expecting that she’d be out of the room after delivering the supplies before the King himself would arrive. Her aunt had stopped to speak with a few others she had run into and sent her ahead.
Prep the visual arrangement of some of the more rare things they grew, to show how crucial they were now to a lot of the more potent items that had been used within the military and healers lately.

Cassian didn't typically see to meetings of this nature himself. Thise certainly would have been the King's Witch's domain, but, well, his witch was dealing with personal issues of late and Cassian wouldn't press her. He had the preparation for the meeting set up in his office. Though it wasn't for another hour, Cassian needed something out of his desk. He stepped into the study without any form of announcement, his feet stilling as his eyes fell on the woman present, and then the things she was preparing.
The prep work done, or at least the set up was done, and Veda head bowed as she breathed a prayer over it. Something to the Goddess that the meeting went well and the strength of the coven was seen and recognized. Though she had a confidence in her shoulders that she might have not thought they'd need the blessing. But she believed that any small bit of a blessing from the Goddess was better than nothing at all.
What she hadn't heard was the door open behind her, nor did she feel the sudden presence behind her. It should have occurred to her that she'd not slip out without meeting someone on the way out, yet when she ended her prayer and turned, her spine snapped into place, eyes wide as she stared at him. At first only registering that she had been snuck up on, and then a moment later her mind finally placed the face she only knew from a distance and what she had seen in paintings she might have passed when delivering messages in the castle.
She wanted to curse, something rather unladylike, but bit her lip and the only thing she could put together was to take a knee out of respect, her head bowed deeply as she realized not only had she been caught off guard but she had done so while in his office. "Your Majesty." She kept her position but dared to raise her head just enough to see his legs. "I was just delivering some things for your meeting with my aunt." She explained, but said no more and didn't dare stand until he granted.

This wasn't a test, but if it had been then the woman before him surely passed. She didn't mutter stupid things or disregard Cassian's position; she showed respect and deference. At first, Cassian said nothing, gaze once again moving over those things she had set up. Then, after he was satisfied, he said,
A long silence stretched, and if she hadn’t been staring at his legs she might have thought he had turned and left. She didn’t move, didn’t dare glance up at his face or around the room. Instead, she only allowed her eyes to bounce to his boots before back to his thighs covered by the dark, fine material. When he spoke, she was immediately to her feet in a surprisingly smooth motion. Standing back on her feet and finally meeting his eye.
“Veda Chaudhari.” Though she was also called witch, soldier, lady, and many more things. But first and foremost, she preferred Veda.

Chaudhari. He'd known the name for some time, but only recently decided to consider extending this kind of invitation to them. He hesitated again, letting contemplation fill the silence. Then,
"Very well. Continue." He would moved past her and to his desk.
She remained as still as a statue, her eyes never leaving him as she waited patiently. Ultimately, he dismissed at least the tense way she held herself and she bowed her head in understanding.
While everything was in place, now it was the clean up. Which wasn’t even really a clean up as she took the bag she had brought and pulled out a copper lined, square piece of cloth and laid it next to a certain bottle, but with intentional space between the two. Double checking the inside, she smoothed her hand down the bag to ensure it was empty before she closed it and went to the chair she assumed her aunt would sit in. Placing the strap over the shoulder.
Working silently, she went to leave but hesitated just inside the door. Her hand on the handle before she turned back to look at him, wanting this visit to go well. Not for him, per se. He was getting only the best. But for her family. “If you ask her,” she said it evenly, with not much volume to her voice as to not be overheard from the outside, “she’ll leave behind the specimens there. They are some of the finest from this latest harvest.” While Cassian wouldn’t have use for it, his witch and the military would. “But she won’t offer them freely.”

With much work on his desk to be tended to, Cassian quickly forgot about the other presence and set to reading and signing documents. He was in the middle of a tiresome report on the oceanside weather when the woman’s hesitation at the door caught the king’s attention. Only his eyes flickered up to watch her as she spoke.
The king said nothing. If she lingered long enough, waiting for a response, then he would eventually nod his head ever so slightly.
Veda lingered only long enough to see the single nod. She dipped her head in response and without another word, slipped out the door just as her aunt was entering. The two made strong eye contact, and Veda nodded that her prep work was done and ready for her. Which left her heading down the hall and jogging to meet her partner in the military wing.
