The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
The rumors spread like wildfire. The world ‘Eldouir’ could be heard as a panicked whisper in the streets of Loren. While others spoke in hushed tones, their eyes darting as if the redheads might burst from an alleyway and attack them, Tallis marched through the streets with a wrathful scowl. An Eldouir—a long-awaited Eldouir—had arrived and had gotten themselves captured. Tallis wanted to believe it was a trap, surely, but from the outside in she couldn’t see the logic. More than a few gifteds would now be under the collar. More than a few—and perhaps Scorzas among them.
Tallis had left her little passion project Gianna Pasqualin to seek out the scene of the disaster. It was easy to tell when she came near. The people of Loren were clustering, standing on their toes, trying to get a glimpse of the cleanup. Tallis, short as she was, tried to shove her way forward to get a better look. Tempers and tensions were high. When Tallis reached a packed part of the crowd, she was stopped by a hulking man who was loudly proclaiming—
“We should’ve collared them when we had the chance. The only good gifted is a dead one, that’s what I say—”
The man stopped speaking as he made a choking sound. He’d cough up a few of his teeth that fell blackened and rotten on the inside from his mouth. By the time he did, Tallis had started moving again, heading away from the crowd, trying to find another place she might see better.

It was a shame that that Eldouir had gotten herself captured, but oh did Acacia like to hear that someone had been brave enough to try to attack the queen. But because she still hadn't met her family, she couldn't know whether there had been Scorzas amongst the Gifted that had been collared. She was relieved, however, that she hadn't gone to hear the queen speak. Hearing Iliana was one thing, but being captured because someone else attacked her? No.
Acacia was walking through the street when she went around a corner and basically bumped straight into Tallis Scorza. She blinked a few times, then a smile appeared on her face.
"Lady Morand, I'm so sorry for bumping into you like this." She put on a more serious face and frowned. "Have you heard? It's unbelievable. More Gifteds collared. Will it ever end?" She felt like Tallis felt the same about it. Her behaviour during the dinner had seemed so.

Tallis grabbed Acacia’s arm reflexively, eyes aflame as her gaze met the other woman’s. Once she calmed, murmuring an apology and releasing her, Tallis attempted to smile back but the expression soured on her lips. She was too whipped up to watch her words. Acacia as far as she knew was no threat. Tallis had enjoyed her company at the dinner party and, though Acacia had partially tipped her hand to her politics, one couldn’t be too sure.
“Oh, it’s only just beginning…” Tallis said, a sour smile spreading across her face. The man whose teeth had rotted from his skull was starting to kick up a fuss. Tallis glanced over her shoulder and then took Acacia’s arm again.
“Perhaps we should find somewhere a little more out of the way. These crowds can turn quickly…” If Acacia allowed, Tallis would start to head down the street. What she wouldn’t see is the rotten-toothed man’s head turn towards them and start to follow.

Tallis always seemed stressed or full of anxiety, in the way that it wouldn't surprise her if Tallis' eyes would flash side to side like she was being watched or hunted. Her behaviour was manic and frantic, but because Acacia felt a connection to the woman, she didn't think much of it. If anything, her behaviour was relatable. Acacia often felt the same way, but was good at hiding it.
She could feel Tallis' fingertips dig into her arm, but again didn't think much of it. "Let us go to my shop", she said. It wasn't dat away from where they were, and they would be able to talk in private. "I'll close down for the afternoon." She smiled slightly and walked with Tallis.
If she agreed to going to her shop, she would lead the way and hold open the door when they arrived. She would lock the door again and make room for two comfortable chairs. "Wine?" she asked. "I feel like a situation like this asks for a glass of wine to wash away the sour taste that the crown leaves in our- well, my mouth."

Tallis followed Acacia into the shop. When the door shut, the sound of the crowd dulled, but Tallis could feel their churning energy still. She was agitated, in truth, she had been her entire life, but with every passing day, she felt that agitation coming into focus. She smirked at Acacia, inclining her head in thanks.
“But of course. If only wine were powerful enough to wash Lorendale clean.” Tallis would sit, whether she was invited to or not. “I suppose someone will need to use something a little stronger."

She handed Tallis one of the glasses and made herself comfortable in a chair as well. Their presence had been an invitation to sit, so she surely didn't mind Tallis sitting without explicitly having invited her to. She took a sip of the red liquid and made a humming sound in agreement and response to Tallis. "If anything, this wine looks more like the blood of the Gifted who are discriminated by the crown each and every day." She sighed, then looked at Tallis and lifted the corner of her mouth. "It appears that someone has tried a little stronger. I heard that an Eldouir was captured after trying to get the platform Iliana was standing on to crumble."
She then set the glass down on a little table that stood between them. "I wonder what my twin would think about it if they were here. People always say twins share some kind of telepathic bond, or feel the same way about a lot of things. Does your husband share this passion of yours?" The passion she was referring to was focussing on the wrongdoings of the crown, and Acacia didn't mean anything bad by it. If anything, she supported it.

Tallis had learned to be skeptical of hope. Time after time, her hopes had been dashed, and each time her heart grew a little harder. But when the world ‘twin’ left Acacia’s lips, Tallis’s glass stopped mid-journey to her lips. Her smirk fell into a look of subtle disbelief. She didn’t hear Acacia’s question. Instead, she merely repeated the word that had made her heart skip a beat.
“Twin—?” It was then that she heard a huge thud on the door. It was followed by another, a sound somewhere between a knock and an effort to burst the door down.
“I know you’re in there!” Tallis recognized the voice of the man from the crowd. The one whose molars had dropped from his gums as they’d rotted from the root. It was then that Tallis grinned, looking at Acacia with glittering eyes.
“It seems we have a visitor. It’d be a shame to keep him waiting.”

Before Acacia could respond, a loud knock on the door made her look away from Tallis. Her brow furrowed as she looked back at Tallis. What had happened before she had ran into the woman?
The look in Tallis' eyes was... enchanting. Chaos. They made her feel like she had felt when she had turned Ghyath into her personal messenger, her slave.
"My my, lady Morand", she chuckled, walking over to the door to unlock it, a hand on the dagger under her skirts. Her bite would be more useful, but could she trust Tallis with her secret?
Acacia unlocked the door and took a step back, looking at the man with a cocky expression on her face. "Yes?"

Talis let Acacia lead, the word ‘twin’ still pinballing around in her head. Twin. A coincidence, surely. But the curl of Acacia’s hair, the soft caramel of her skin…
When the door opened, Tallis was standing behind Acacia with cross arms and a smirk. The hulking mass of a man was more repulsive than Tallis remembered. He looked down at Acaica with imperious anger, bristling at her confidence. The man opened his mouth to say something, and as he did he choked, spitting another blackened tooth to the floor.
His eyes found Tallis. Her smirk grew to a grin, telling the man everything he needed to know.
“Step aside,” The man said, attempting to push Acacia out of the way.

While the man didn't seem too intimidated by the two women, they sure looked intimidating. Two fierce, strong women looking down on a dumb commoner who was spitting out teeth and, although he might have thought he sounded brave, basically begged Acacia with his eyes to step out of the way to get to Tallis.
She didn't allow him to push her away. In a very subtle way, she touched his hand while he passed her, letting her silky spiderwebs tangle around his hand. His fingers were bow stuck together, and if he was right-handed, he wouldn't be able to use that hand much for now.
She didn't really care anymore whether Tallis noticed it or not. She had a feeling that Tallis was Gifted herself, or at least very pro-Gifted.
The man looked at his hand as he stumbled into the shop, trying to get the webs off his hand but by doing so, he got them on his other hand as well.
"I'm thinking self-defense", she said, looking at Tallis, hoping she caught her drift. They could probably easily kill the man. "What do you think, mylady?"

Tallis had suspected, but to have those suspicions confirmed was so very, very sweet. Her grin was explosive as the man stumbled into the shop. As Acacia dealt with the man, Tallis walked smoothly to the door. She peeked out, looking either way to ensure he hadn’t been followed or attracted any attention before shutting and locking the door behind her.
“Self-defense indeed,” Tallis agreed, the manic justice creeping into her tone like the chords of an eerie instrument. “Though there’s not much of a defense to mount, I’m afraid.” Without so much as blinking an eye or lifting a finger, the tendons in the man’s knees would start to rot until they snapped and he fell to the floor with a thud and a whimper.
Tallis would walk toward the man and alongside Acacia, looming over him with satisfaction. “What is it you said, sir? The only good gifted is a dead one?” She looked over at Acacia with a raised eyebrow and a tilt of her head that seemed to say “after you.”

A mischievous grin formed on Acacia's face. Her suspensions were confirmed. Tallis was Gifted, just like her. She wasn't sure yet what exactly her Gift was, but it was clear that it was a useful one. She could either do something to bones or change something within a person, because the man fell to the ground and couldn't get up again.
"Such a poor little lamb. I almost feel bad for him." She grinned and looked back at Tallis with a look that said 'why thank you'.
Acacia crouched down next to the man, who looked hideous without teeth. He looked frail. A pity he wasn't much of an opponent, but it was alright. An easy target was still a target.
"You're quite handsome, aren't you", she said, sarcastically. She leaned forward and lifted his arm. She brought her mouth towards it and sank her teeth into his skin.
He screamed out in pain. The venom spread under his skin, through his veins, and would leave him paralysed. He could only move his head now, and his veins showed through his skin.
"Spider physiology", she said, looking up at Tallis with a grin. "Webs, wall climbing, dark vision..." She looked back at the man now. "A venomous bite."

Tallis watched Acacia with rapture. Gifts were such beautiful things. Each unique, a thing of power, carried in the blood of those special few Lorendale had tried to smother. Tallis looked on as Acacia sank her teeth into this lesser specimen, this worm that now wriggled helplessly before being stilled by the venom that blackened his veins. Tallis moved forward, crouching down next to Acacia and laying a hand on her cheek. She did not look at the man but instead looked upon the woman beside her with wonder.
“So beautiful…” She said softly as the man suffered, scanning Acacia’s face as if seeing her for the first time.

The hand on her cheek felt electric. It seemed like there was nothing around them anymore, and it was just the two of them. Acacia placed her own hand over Tallis' and smiled softly. Maybe she was imagining it, but it almost seemed as if the Scorza mark on his thigh was tingling.
"I showed you mine, show me more of yours", she said with a cheeky smile. This room was just for them now. Just them and their Gifts. It was their playground, and soon the whole city and then the whole kingdom would be.

With a wicked grin, Tallis’s head turned to the man on the floor—though her hand did not leave Acacia’s cheek. Without so much as a twitch of her eyebrow or a flick of her hand, the man started to decompose. At first, the man was conscious for it. His eyes bugged out in terror before they sank into nothing but mush and he lived no more. It was a grotesque sight. One that reeked of decay.
Ten seconds in, the man’s skin and muscles were gone, and his organs rotted away to clean white bone. The bones were next, breaking down until at the twenty-second mark he was nothing but dust on the floor to be swept away. The sweet smell of rotting flesh was the only hint left that he’d been there at all.
Tallis turned back to Acacia, beaming with pride. “My apologies for the mess…” She said, still gently stroking the woman’s cheek.
