DEMELZA & OBERON
GENERAL
Age: Twenty-five
Birth Season: Summer
Occupation: Jill-of-all-trades
Kingdom: Dresmond
Citizen Status: Citizen
PHYSICAL
Weight: 108 lbs
Body Description: Demelza is a lean, muscular woman who'd look right at home in a Lorendale ballroom - if given the proper gown. She takes great care in her appearance, even if the end result is an eccentric mish-mash of color, texture, ribbon and lace. She carries herself with confidence, dancing through the world with a smile on her face. She flits about from place to place, singing and spinning as colorful as a butterfly.
Oberon, meanwhile, lumbers about, begrudging each step. He grunts and groans, rolling his eyes at Demelza's antics. Though he seems a grumpy, cuddly teddy, it would be a mistake to think him anything but a formidable predator. Oberon stands over 10' tall, weighing nearly 1,500 pounds. His paws are the size of dinner plates and his teeth like daggers. His roar is enough to make the earth tremble.
PERSONAL
Aspirations/Ambitions: Restoring the Dresmond she once knew
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Reputation: Demelza has witnessed many horrors in her life, but rather than hardening her to the wonders of the world it has opened her to the joy of simple pleasures. Demelza wonders at the sunshine, the rowdy music of laughter, the din of chirping crickets, and the soft whisper of grass against her bare feet. To some, she might seem silly—detached from reality, delusional even. But Demelza’s joy results from her relentless hard-headedness; her unwillingness to let the Eldouir steal the flame of hope she has left.
Demelza believes in the underdog (she is a Dresmondi, isn’t she?). She fancies herself a protector of the weak, and defender of the innocent—even if her efforts don’t always shake out in accordance with her ideals. Demelza is a pacificist, a fighter under duress. She longs for a day when she can lay down her swords for good and cradle her mandolin in her arms. Desmond is a dream, a dream that she will continue to pursue until there’s no strength left in her body or marrow in her bones.
Oberon, though he shares her willingness to fight to the death for Dresmond, has been jaded by their years in battle and displaced from their homeland. He is glad to be back in Dresmond, because it means he might finally be free of the mountain of guilt he feels at having fled. Though he may seem like just a grumpy old bear, he is still the warring creature that killed scores of Coheedsman, and would have no problem turning his teeth against the red devils.
Combat Experience: Demelza is a fighter trained and hardened by battle. Though her years of peace in Arynn Frey have softened her, she retains the skill of a warrior and can hold her own. Oberon is the far more formidable combative force. His size and magic make the two of them quite the pair.
MAGIC
HISTORY
Tale: Demelza was every bit a child of the Rashai. It takes a village to raise a child, and in this case, that village was a caravan. Demelza’s mother was young—little more than a child—when she was born, and in the end, was more a sister to her than a caregiver. But no matter. Demelza (called ‘Liza’ by those who knew her well) had plenty of ‘aunties’ to care for her and ‘cousins’ to keep her company. Her upbringing was loud, boisterous, chaotic, but full of love.
The Rashai were miners by trade, and Demelza was put to work as soon as she was able. Demelza didn’t mind a bit; she was glad to be useful, and even more happy with the praise her usefulness brought her. Demelza was small for her age and could slither into little openings in the mines and caves that others could not.
The thrill of emerging with riches satisfied her for a time, but when she grew into her own her interests turned. She no longer wanted to go crawling through the meandering passageways of the dark. She wanted to be out in the open—singing and dancing the day away. The dusty, dirty little tomboy started to blossom into a beauty who enjoyed dresses and flirting and giggling with her friends.
When Demelza emerged from the cave of names with a dyr as big as her attitude, her days turned to training. While an adequate fighter, her real asset was her abundance of charisma. Demelza’s skill for song and storytelling made her a frequent performer at campfires, where she reveled in the spotlight and attention it brought her.
But song is an ineffective weapon in war.
When the times called for it, Demelza’s love for her people drove her to turn her attention to combat. She fought against Coheed alongside her dyr. Though a fighter in her own right, it was really Oberon whose power and size proved an asset to the Dresmondi. The stubborn Demelza gave up her songs for scimitars, standing with her brethren as they were slaughtered around her—the compatriots she’d loved her whole life.
One hardship followed another. Demelza witnessed with disgust as her fellow Dresmondi turned on one another. This wasn't the Dresmond she loved; the one that put community and liberation over greed. The foundations of Dresmond cracked, as did her trust in her people.
When the Eldouir rolled into Dresmond, Demelza fled to Arynn Frey. She found solace there, a fresh start. She lay down her swords and started to pick up the pieces of herself and put her sorrow and shame to rest. Demelza emerged as herself once again—a woman who believed in everything good, just, and free. She took up the mandolin and became something of a small celebrity in her corner of the camp; one who always had a song or a story to spare. Though it wasn’t the same, Demelza believed she’d captured a piece of the Dresmond that was; the one that Eldouir had ruined.
And they weren’t done yet.
Once again, the Eldouir unleashed hell on the Dresmondi. As people died around her, Demezla did not fight. She helped to gather and guide Dresmondi to flee the violence back into the claws of their enemies. After a long and arduous journey, Demelza has arrived in Elderkeep to witness what she left behind and the people she abandoned.
