The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

(this thread is for Imani ; it follows immediately after the thread with Rian, Izen, and Magda)
The monster that was just barely contained under the surface of his dark skin, he stormed away from his brother's hut headed directly for his home but he paused looking down at his hands..they were a light gray...the growl of the monster within rumbled out of him. Looking from his hands towards his home Kaalim figured right now wouldn't be the best of times to go there so he turned cutting down the worn dirt road that lead to he beach...that pace quickly picked up into a jog...he was sprinting...just as bare feet hit the sand the transformation had already started. People stayed away and Kaalim had ran to this spot to let the Beast vent. It was away from people, from any structures, and definitely away from whatever "justified revenge" that came out of...
...a loud angry guttural roar left the giant monster that stomped, flailing about, cartwheeling, and pounding up clouds of sand. He pounded on his chest roaring out across the water.
Imani was putting laundry up outside of the home, where she had been spending most of her time since she had gotten engaged with Kaalim. While putting a shirt up, she noticed Kaalim in the far distance. Something seemed off. He wasn't coming closer, and instead turned around and took another path. The woman dropped the shirt back in the pile of fresh laundry and started walking in the direction he had gone, progressively walking faster until she was jogging and then running. Her feet almost flew over the cut-down grass and branches as she followed the path he had made towards the beach.
"Kaalim!" she shouted, still running, but there was no answer. She could only hear a roar followed by more animal-like sounds.
Imani reached the beast and saw Kaalim in his beast form. She was hesitant and didn't know if she ought to get closer to him, so she stood back a little, about four meters away from him. "Kaalim, love", she said again, trying to see if there would be a reaction and if he would look in her direction. "What is going on?"

Hearing its name caused the Beast to turn sharply toward the source, heavy breathing that seemed to sound like growling cut through the sounds of the waves crashing against the sand. It recognized her. Imani the little voice of Kaalim echoed in the Beasts head. Her question was lost to the Beast as it stepped toward her, towering over her more than Kaalim did in his normal appearance. It growled at her and hissed yelling over her head..stomping...
"Angry...hurt...brothers..," the Beast choked out, his voice raspy and hollow etched in the oozing tone of anger.
The Beast turned to face her and approached. His height intimidated her, but she wasn't afraid. She knew it was Kaalim in there. She did take a small step back when he stomped, but then took two steps forward.
"Brothers... Rian, or Izen?" She wondered what was happening and felt nervous. She senses that something was wrong, very wrong. He was anger, but was there also some sadness?

The Beast had a hard time trying to compartmentalize anything other than its blind rage, yet he felt just the faintest tug from Kaalim feeding the Beast the idea that Imani wasn't the enemy. It stamped the ground, "Izen," it grunted, "Hurt...Magda...," the Beast tried to explain and when he tried the fit just grew. He stepped away from Imani as he rubbed his face furiously until he just fell back on to the sand...laying there...seething.
Imani was confused. She knew both Izen and Magda, but she couldn't make sense of what Kaalim was saying, or what could have happened. She didn't know what the relationship between the two was, apart from them being related through Rian.
The Beast fell on the ground. Imani moved forward carefully and sat down next to him, on her knees, in the sand. She gently placed a hand on his arm. "Take a deep breath, darling. Can I do something for you?" She wanted to help him calm down.

The Beast tensed a little at the touch, a growl, then he let his head rest and he closed his eyes. It listened to her by taking a few rapid breaths, listened to her breathing, focused on the touch, and those laborious breathes slowed down to deep ones.
Slowly as if being lulled off to sleep by the help of crashing waves, the massive form began to change and shrink the gray washed away giving way to Kaalims brown skin. The tattoos on him stopped glowing white and earthy brown eyes opened.
Kaalim sat up taking in Imani, "I lost control again? Did I hurt anyone?" he would reach up to touch her face leaving behind bits of sand as he stroked her cheek, "...are you...I didn't hurt you did I?" worry and concern gave way to his facial features, eyes glassed with fear.
She wasn't scared of the Beast. She knew it was Kaalim in there, and her priority was calming him down. Her own safety was an afterthought, but Imani knew Kaalim, or the Beast, wouldn't hurt her. His breathing was slowing down, and his form started to change. Slowly, the Beast was turning into her beloved Kaalim.
She gave him the time and space to regain his senses, sitting by his side and stroking his arm. When he eventually opened his eyes and sat up, she gently smiled at him. "You didn't hurt anyone, my love. Don't worry. You didn't hurt me, either." Imani placed her hand over the one Kaalim had on her cheek. "You were upset, you didn't just lose control. It was with good reason." Izen hurt Magda. It replayed over and over in her head, but it didn't seem like a good idea to ask him about it just yet.

And for the first time in his life Kaalim broke down in front of someone, the tears flowed and while he was glad he hadn't hurt anyone but Kaalim had abandoned his baby brother. By now he was sure Izen was dead...
"Izen..he hurt Magda, raped her and..he was sentenced to die," he finally got it out yet he still sobbed.
"I'm so sorry", she said, embracing the big man. She wiped his tears away and rested his head on her shoulder. She had many questions. Why would he rape his brother's wife? Izen had always seemed like a good guy, or at least from what she knew.

Kaalim took as long as he needed and he showed no shame in letting his grief show or his hurt to ebb from walls often to high to traverse to allow him to do this. Finally he lifted his head, "Magda...she's...captivating," there was much more he wanted to say about her but in front of his soon to be wife?, "Izen had come to me not long ago with a worry of paranoia about her..what he did...it wasn't him, there is mo way! I grew up with him..all his life and I could never see him raping a woman...."
Her brow furrowed. She didn't mind him saying Magda was captivating, but the fact that Izen had come to Kaalim before this happened with paranoia about her was strange. A lot of men seemed to be captivated by Magda, and she didn't understand why. Whether Izen had been bewitched by Magda, or if he was simply a Coheedsman who took what he wanted was something Imani wasn't sure about. She knew neither Magda nor Izen well enough, but she would support her soon-to-be-husband.

"No," Kaalim said, "For now I won't...I can't speak to either of them," Kaalim played with the sand..."You calmed me, so easily, when I loose myself that way so few..if any have ever called me so quickly..so camly..."
She could understand that, so she nodded and watched his hands in the sand.
She smiled slightly, with a hint of sadness. She felt grateful that she had managed to calm him, but the circumstances were not happy, of course. "I'm glad I could", she said as she took his face in her hands, stroking his cheeks with her thumbs. She would press a kiss on his forehead. "Do you want to stay out here a little longer, or should we go home? I'll take care of you, my love."

"Let us go home, I am tired," Kaalim said as he picked himself up and off the sand taking her small hand in his and together they headed back to their soon to be shared home.
