The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Hadrian’s expression would be one of slight surprise. It was indeed a bold statement and, like any other statement made by the king, one not made lightly. A faithful canine. He supposed he could understand that, but then if that were the case…was it a dog he’d loosed on Alys Delaney? Surely not, and most certainly not an accusation he was prepared to make.
“Alright…” Hadrian sighed, scratching his beard, “Yes, Your Majesty. I suppose I understand.” So long as she could be kept on a leash.
“Is it too much to ask just what it is she possesses?”

Cassian heard Hadrian’s question and a pause followed. Though the king’s face betrayed nothing, it would be clear that he was contemplating whether this was a question he would refuse answering for the time being or indulge.
After a considerable pause, one long enough to turn the conversation from productive to awkward, Cassian quietly said,
“She is a werewolf, too. But a different breed, if such a thing can be fathomed.” He closely watched Hadrian’s reaction. “Hers is larger, faster, and able to breathe fire.”

Awkward indeed. It seemed everything that had to do with Regan Lassiter, even in her absence, was awkward. Her connection with the king, her elevation to a position of power…an unlikely and awkward thing (though reason was admittedly becoming more clear). Hadrian wondered if he’d crossed a line, given the king’s silence…but a deal was a deal. He’d ask his questions; when the king did with them was his prerogative.
“So…” Hadrian said slowly, “Alys’s curse is transferable. Or replicable in some way.”

Cassian was reminded why Hadrian was sitting where he was. Not only did the man hold the values of Nevermere, but he was sharp to boot.
“It is.” Cassian confirmed. “They were both bitten by the alpha werewolf, the first of this strain of werewolf curse.” Nothing about his tone or posture betrayed that he himself was that alpha; nothing except perhaps the glint in his eye, but even then it might have been excitement at the topic.

Hadrian raised an eyebrow, inviting the obvious next question. It wasn’t exactly a stretch to assume…but assumption was how he’d been tangled up in uncertainty in the first place.
“And I’m assuming you know who that is…” Hadrian’s tone was becoming more relaxed, his manner more easy. Conspiratorial, even. For the first time since the ball, Hadrian felt like he was back. That he was the commander he’d once been.

Hadrian breathed out. Hence his confidence in control of Regan. Hence the closeness of his relationship to both women. He nodded slowly. It was a lot to take in…one question crashing into another.
“Are there others? Besides Lassiter and Lady Delaney?”

Not yet. Of any of Cassian’s answers that was the one that had the commander holding the longest silence. So there’d be more. Both Alys and Regan had been royal guards, that fact didn’t escape him. He ran through the list, though after that one was exhausted, his mind followed into the other soldiers of note. An idea started to crystallize.
“I am very familiar with the capabilities and character of many of our soldiers…” Hadrian started slowly, “If you would ever be interested in seeing a potential candidate, perhaps to have one of our more valuable cycled into your royal guard for consideration…I’d like to be of assistance.”

“Please do.” Cassian’s answer was short but favorable for the Captain Commander. Surely he’d take it as a win and not be offended when Cassian also said, “Let us break company for now. You have a lot to consider, and I have much to do.”

Hadrian was, in fact, grateful. There was much to process, and he rather felt he’d been hit by a carriage .
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Hadrian dipped into a bow, “If it is suitable…I do not plan on mentioning this discussion to Lady Delaney. Whatever you feel she should be aware of as far as my knowledge of this whole…situation, I leave that to you.”
Situation was perhaps not the most appropriate word, but he struggled to find a more accurate one. If there was nothing further, Hadrian would prepare to depart.

Cassian didn’t like to betray his inner thoughts, not through his reactions and facial expressions, and especially not through his words. In this instance, however, he felt the situation called for a touch more transparency.
“At one point in time Alys was where Regan now stands. Her loss has changed her significantly.” There was more to be said, but he closed his mouth, and the more would have to go left unsaid.
