The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Ona had went straight back to the tavern after Tribute, and she had let the other Desmondi know to come to the tavern as well, but not right away so they wouldn't all arrive at the same time. The last thing she wanted right now was for one of those Eldouir or one of their pawns to notice that a group was heading to the tavern. Ona had opened the tavern to the public as well, so everything would be less suspicious. It wasn't weird for Desmondi to grab a drink after something like Tribute, right? The girls wouldn't be offering services that night, though. Some of them would work behind the bar.
The dark haired woman had went upstairs to a room and had asked Obri to stay on the stairs to alert Oberon, Beth and Thorn when they arrived with their humans. They would be allowed to come upstairs right away, to the room Ona was waiting for them in.

Weylin didn't speak as he and Demelza & Oberon made their way slowly from their nightmare and to the tavern where they had first met Ishmael, the first and only Eldouir they had ever actually met in person. Turned out to be just as terrible as all the stories they had heard. Weylin didn't know what to say. He kept wanting to apologize as if any of this was somehow his fault but even that he couldn't put into words. Weylin was used to feeling small, it was part of the make up of who he was, both in stature and demeanor. Even so, he'd never felt as small and insignificant as he did right now.
Obri spoke to Oberon and Beth and the four of them made their way up the stairs and into the room to see Ona. Weylin didn't know why they were here and didn't know the Dresmondi the way that Demelza had got to know her but he still managed to squeak out a couple of words when the entered. "Thank you," he said to Ona & Obri. Though for what he wasn't quite able to put into words just yet.

Lovina was greatful that Thorn had been too small to be branded. He surely would not have survived it. She clutched her Dyr, as much to comfort him as for her own comfort as she returned to the tavern. The fresh brand still throbbed, and fresh zings of pain struck her everytime her hair or clothes slipped over it. Usually, she'd cover her shoulders when she wasn't working in the tavern, but her shawl just irritated the burn too much. Sightings of the Eldour...brought back horrible memories that she sould much rather forget. She knew that her experience with the gifted redheads were not unique to her, but it didn't make it less horrifying. She needed a drink. The stiffest drink Ona & Obri had. Thorn for his part still had his feathers ruffled, and little declarations of revengeand maiming would erupt from his tiny body. The little canary dyr vocalized his telepathic tyrade with cute little tweets as he puffed out his feathers, little bits of angry static electricty zapping her skin from his feathers.
"Shhh, it's alright," she told Thorn quietly, even as she knew thatit wasn't. It wasn't right that they should all be branded in such a way...like they were cattle being lead to the slaughter. She squeezed her eyes shut against angry tears. They may have taken their freedom, but she would be damned if she let them make her show how much it all effected her.
As soon as she walked in the tavern, she saw Obri waiting on the stairs, and listened to Thorn relay Ona's message. She nodded and went up the stairs to the room that Ona was waiting in. She saw that she was not the first one there. Two dresmondi that she'd not interacted with much were already there, "Am I late?" she said more soberly than she would have in any other situation. There was no sign of the provacative prostitute, only the haunted dancer that she had once been.

During their whole journey, Demelza focused on keeping the hot, angry tears behind her eyes that threatened to spill over onto her cheeks. When she arrived back at the makeshift camp where she stayed along with many of the other Dresmondi from Arynn Frey, she went directly into her tent, letting the flap swing close behind her. Oberon dropped to the ground outside and listened to Demelza as she sobbed. He soothed her, waiting until the tears started to die down before taking a sterner approach.
You’ve shed enough tears, little one. It’s time.
Sniffling, Demelza took a moment together herself before setting off to Ona & Obri’s tavern. She’d be the last to arrive. Due to his size, Oberon stayed outside, watching for any that might be unwelcome.
Demelza was guided into the room where she saw Weylin & Beth, Ona & Obri, and a woman she didn’t recognize already there. She couldn’t bring herself to look at Weylin, so she focused on Ona and the unfamiliar woman instead. She just…stood there, looking at Ona for direction.

It took some time before everyone was gathered, but once they were, Ona got up from her chair and stood in the middle of the room. "I don't want anyone to hear what I'm about to say, so I'll let Obri tell Thorn, and-", she paused, realising she never caught the names of the other Dresmondi's dyrs, "he will tell your dyrs. Afterwards I'll help everyone with their brand. I have some clean water around.a"
She looked from one to another until she had faced every person and dyr in the room.
"Ishmael has instructed Ona to work together with Eirwen, to patrol the borders", Obri said as instructed by Ona. "As Tribute payment, he has received one night a week in the tavern for him and his animals so he can enjoy his own music."
Ona looked at Demelza & Oberon with an apologetic look on her face. Them singing louder than the Eldouir had pissed him off.
"Ona is very sorry about the Drunken Dyr being less of a safe space now. She had no other options. But she wants to inform you about something. Ona has been working on a secret organisation, I guess you can call it, with some other girls that work here. The goal is to gather as much information as possible from Dresmondi in general, and from those who work for the Eldouir. Ona wants to know if you want to help her."
Ona looked around again, with a faint smile on her face.
"Weylin and Demelza, you don't need to sleep with people, if you were to join. Ona wants to ask you to keep your ears open for news. Lovina, Ona doesn't want you to do anything you don't feel comfortable with, but would really appreciate your help as well. For now she doesn't have a plan yet, but just collecting all the information we can get and bringing it to her would be useful. We can't let the Eldouir rule us anymore. Ona doesn't instruct me to say this, but she's a good woman, and she will take care of you."
Once Obri was done, Ona would sit down again. "I know it's a lot, but what do you say?"

It was a smart way to communicate about such delicate matters and had been a method he'd used on occasion, though usually because he was trying to be quiet rather than trying to hide anything. The image of all those birds and rats at Ishmael's final announcement certainly had him feeling nervous. It would be too easy for a rat to be hiding in the walls and listening. He listened as Beth repeated all that Obri had spoken to the dyrs and felt a knot of nerves twist in his stomach. He was scared but he knew he couldn't stay scared. They had already left their fellow Dresmondi behind to suffer and he knew he couldn't do that any longer.
He glanced at Demelza & Oberon, even if she didn't make eye contact with him. She had always been the strong one between them but maybe it was time for him to find some sort of inner strength so that she didn't have to feel like she had to carry the weight for them both. He glanced to the unfamiliar woman as well, Lovina & Thorn. All the women in this room were so beautiful and he looked at them like pillars of strength and confidence.
He then used Beth to reply, feeling too nervous to try to speak aloud himself.
"We want to help. Ishmael has assigned us to be his...assistants or whatever term he intends to use. We are to do his bidding as he asks it of us so we will be in regular contact with the Eldouir and can keep our ears open there as well as when were with others."
Weylin also had other ideas of how he might be able to assist Ona & Obri even more but he was both undecided and wasn't sure he wanted to say it to everyone else, so he kept those thoughts to himself for now.

Lovina approved of the method Ona & Obri took to relay the plan. Especially when speaking of Ona's organization. One never knew who was listening these days.
There was no question if Lovina would help or not. Ona had saved her, and there was not much Lovina wouldn't do for her. She had Thorn relay her answer, "Lovina will help where she can, of course..." a pause, "She wants to know if she'll need to service him?" The prospect of laying with an eldour frightened her, and memories threaten to flood her mind. With enough whiskey, maybe, just maybe she could stomach it. She'd do it for Ona. It was the least she could do.
She noticed Weylin & Beth 's glance, and would habitually flash a smile full of promises, not even realizing that she had done so until after she'd done it.

Demelza “listened” as Oberon relayed Obri’s message to her. Her eyes widened at times, at others her brow furrowed in confusion. But by the end, an indignant smile spread across her face. One of possibility and hope…and a touch of vengeance. Demelza stood and went over and planted a big kiss on Ona & Obri ’s cheek.
“I’ll do whatever you need,” Demelza said smiling, “Whatever I can do to be useful—I’ll do it.” Oberon grumbled, saying to the dyrs in a grumpy voice.

Ona was happy that all of them were willing to help her. She smiled, and even teared up a little bit. She wiped the tear away, and laughed when Demelza & Oberon walked over to plant a kiss on her cheek.
"Thank you, all of you", she said with a smile.
She looked at Weylin & Beth. "I'm sorry to hear that. Do what they ask, but keep yourself safe, darling."
Then she looked at Lovina & Thorn. "No, never do anything you're not comfortable with. If something like that comes up, direct them my way. I will take one for the team." Literally.
"Does anyone have question? If so, maybe it's best to turn to our dyr again."

The determination he felt to be helpful sat strong in his chest. They hadn't even been back in Dresmond long but he was already tired of the oppression that was here. As hard as it would be for him to stay strong and be brave, he was determined to help. He shook his head when Ona asked if there were other questions. He wasn't quite sure what he would need to ask. He was the epitome of a follower. He was the type to do what he was told loyally and not mutter a peep in question about it.

Lovina nodded, although she knew that if an Eldouir wanted something, there was little she could do to sway them. She only hoped that if the time came that she’d be able to rise to the occasion.
Lovina had no questions, and would remain silent as she looked around the room to see if anybody was going to ask anything.

Though her weapon now was her mandolin, Demelza used to fight with steel. She feared stagnancy, not death. A life without purpose or glory was the worst fate one could imagine, and now that a window had been opened to find her valor once again, she couldn’t stop smiling.
“Just tell me what I need to do,” Demelza said, her hand still on Ona’s cheek, “I want to be useful.”
Slow down, cub. Oberon rumbled in caution. Don’t start running before you’ve made sure there’s ground beneath your feet.

She smiled at Demelza & Oberon. "Currently, I'm not sure yet. We should meet again soon, when we all know more. I'll be working with Eirwen, but please, all of you," she now looked at the room, "know that although it will seem I'm one of them, I'll only ever be loyal to you." Ona paused to let the silence emphasize what she had said. "It will be difficult and it will be horrible, but we have to pretend to follow orders."
She in particular. Eirwen and Ishmael expected a lot from her. "Lovina & Thorn, when I'm away, you're in charge of the Drunken Dyr. I hope I won't be away too much, but I don't know what they'll have me do."
"I think Weylin & Beth and I will be able to learn the most about Ishmael's plans, but we should all keep our ears open."

Weylin nodded as Ona explained the plan and their roles. He could get information, that shouldn't be too hard. He could tell Beth wasn't so sure, she knew how shy and scared Weylin could be. He'd need to be brave, even proactive if wanted to actually learn anything useful. She'd be there to help him with that.
