The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Isaac was stationed in the garden that afternoon. While the king had his royal guards, some regular soldiers were also sent to the garden to keep an eye out while Cassian roamed the gardens.
He stood upright and still, watching the plants and flowers that were starting to prepare to drop their leaves and go into hibernation. He was excited to see the king, but not in a child-like way. He had a lot of respect for Cassian and always felt blessed when he could greet the man. After all, he was a Nevermere soldier now, and serving Cassian's kingdom was his duty.

Cassian was usually a man of his study, but every now and then he took a break in the gardens. He wasn’t a lover of nature; it was the fresh air that attracted him. Something about the inside of the castle was a little stale and definitely stiff. Out here, among the breeze and the plant life, Cassian felt he was able to access different parts of his mind. He was inspired, you might say.
He walked—he didn’t pace—a route that was short enough to keep his royal guards from having to tail him but ensured they were close enough to respond should a need arise. His eyes were mostly set on the ground, but after some time he raised them to look directly at the soldier some meters ahead.
Cassian knew of him. Few Coheedsmen and Cambrians actually seemed to embrace the arrangement their leaders had made with Nevermere. Cassian knew this soldier to be among the few.
He would stare until the soldier looked up and their eyes met, at which point Cassian would beckon him with his hand.

Isaac made sure not to stare at the king. He stood upright with his hands behind his back, and his shoulders straight. He took his duties as soldier very seriously and wouldn't allow himself to get distracted.
But eventually he felt that he was being stared at. Isaac looked to the side and met Cassian's gaze. He nodded politely, thinking they had just accidentally made eye contact, but the king gestured for him to approach.
The Coheedsman started to move, and stopped at a polite distance from the king. He bowed at the waist before looking back at Cassian. "Your majesty", he said.

Cassian watched the warrior approach, observing his physical prowess with familiar eyes. Cassian well knew his way around a blade.
“Isaac Hudson, am I correct?” Cassian asked, no doubt surprising the man. Cassian made it his business to know certain things. The name and face of a loyal Coheedsman was one of them.

"Yes, Sir, your majesty", he said, adding both titles because he hadn't interacted with the royal family much and didn't quite know if he needed to day both or just the 'your majesty' part.

Cassian nodded. A simple response, few words. Company he could easily keep.
“What do you make of Nevermere?” He naturally assumed most Coheedsmen hated the arrangement Kaalim had made…but also knew that those who lived in Skia either saw the vision, or had ill motive. Time would tell where Isaac stood.

Although it sounded like a simpel question, it was definitely a loaded one. He knew his response to it would shape the image the king had of him as a Coheedsman living in Nevermere.
"I am very thankful and lucky to be living here, your majesty", Isaac said truthfully. "I very much admire you as a person and a ruler, and think Nevermere is doing great things in all of Terra Nova. The emancipation of the witches and their importance in the military and politically is refreshing, especially to me and where I come from. I met your Huntsman a while ago, she's a formidable warrior and soldier."
He smiled softly, hoping his honest response would satisfy the king.

Whether Cassian was satisfied or not was undisclosed. His expression remained its typical unreadable self. He paused, digesting what the man had to say, and then slowly followed up with,
“And what do you make of Coheed?” If either was the trick question, this one surely was.

The next question was definitely an even trickier one. "Coheed is now better than what it used to be, from what I've heard. I did like being a warrior and serving the Chieftain, but Kaalim made a smart move by asking you for help, and giving Coheed to Nevermere. Only when I arrived here, I was able to see how outdated some traditions in Coheed were. For example, the women were just there for children. I used to not think much of it, but I think it started when I didn't want to join the fight against Cambria. It was... Unnecessary, I suppose. We had a good arrangement with them."
He thought a little more. "I can't put it into words, I'm afraid, but the drive to expand in Coheed was for selfish reasons, to have a big territory, and to rule. Nevermere on the other hand helps the territories they have won and gained. It makes all of us better and smarter."
Was this good? He wasn't good at putting thoughts into words, but it was the truth.

It was a simple response to a simple question, and if the man was truly as he claimed to be then Cassian was glad for his service here. In fact, it made him wonder what else this man might do for Nevermere and Coheed.
“I should be glad for a native guide on an upcoming tour to Cambria and Coheed. Will you attend me as a royal guard and information source?” Of course, Cassian had studied Coheed at length. Whether he actually wanted the man for his knowledge or to gain a greater insight on who exactly he was would be determined.

Isaac definitely hadn't expected to be asked to join the tour, but he was pleasantly surprised. Of course there were some worries about going back to Coheed, but he wouldn't be there as a Coheedsman, but as a Nevemerean soldier.
"It would be my honour, your majesty", the man responded with a polite dip of the head. He would make sure to help the king to the best of his abilities.

Cassian nodded to the other man and then said nothing more. That was all he had to say, and arrangements would be made and Isaac contacted by the people who planned the details of these things.
The king continued his walk then, a clear sign from his body language that Isaac was not invited to continue it with him.
