The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[ Made for @iliana | Set the night before the Nevermerean tour ]
It was the eve before the tour was to leave. Cassian had reserved the afternoon to spend with his wife and children. All were in attendance for dinner, though Julius left shortly after. Iliana lingered with Leopold, Cass, and Declan.
Cassian was likely not the father Iliana wanted him to be. He didn’t smile as easily at them as she did, and he spoke to them as if they were adults. He didn’t play but rather observed them, and only when they held wooden swords did he actually join in on what they were doing, turning it into a training session.
The family spent the last hour of daylight in the gardens. The boys never seemed to grow tired of playing swords. They leaped about, hollering and laughing, and Cassian walked beside Iliana, watching them, the smile in his eyes.
Where Cassian was more rigid, or so it would seem, Iliana was soft. She was a mother that she had not gotten growing up. One that perhaps would’ve change a lot of who she was now, unsure if it would be for the better or the worst.
As for Cassian, he was there. He never denied spending time with them, and though she could see that their eldest at times was nervous, Cass seemed to look to his father constantly for that approval. Craved those little moments with the wooden swords or even asking about sailing to gain the older Cassian’s attention.
Iliana had thankfully started to feel better. Still queasy at times, but not constantly bed ridden by the sickness that had plagued her for the first few months. A constant little container of peppermints in her pocket helped those moments fade quickly, and kept her from finding a pot to loose her stomach in. While the boys moved ahead, the sound of wood smacking each other, she found herself drawn to look up to Cassian, knowing they’d be apart for a while now.
“All preparations are in order for your tour?” She prompted, hoping to gain his attention.

Cassian nodded, the smallest of sighs coming from his lips. It was a glimpse of the inner man, the one only Iliana got to see and only sometimes. It conveyed that though he would do his duty, it was a tiring thought for him. Whether that was because he would be away from her, from them, or some other reason was left to mystery.
“I have very efficient help.” He confirmed, drawing his eyes down to meet Iliana’s.
A small smile quirked her lips, her weight shifting from one side, to the other, leaning her closer to him. She usually kept herself well positioned and aware of propriety when in the company of others. Usually. But like this, knowing the distance and time to come, she swayed closer to him. Still not touching, but the gesture warming her. “I have no doubt of that,” she let her eyes stray from him only for a moment to see where a toddling Declan was seemingly trying to follow his older brothers.
“After Elena’s trial, we will put Oriana on trial. For her attempt on your Huntsman’s life. On potentially yours… I’d like for your Huntsman to be there, as this would be seeking justice for that day.” A soft breath left her. Her head dipping for a moment. “I’m going to miss you.” She always spoke so softly when she admitted these things, as if they were truly only for Cassian’s ears… even if she sometimes wore her love on her sleeve for him with her gaze alone at other times.

Cassian nodded at the business reported. It made sense. He had expected that much, and possibly even a trial for Remiel, though he did not concern himself where it was not needed.
“It won’t be too long.” He returned softly, one hand seeking hers. He would take it as they walked, as if he could channel his presence into her now and leave his warmth after he was gone.
She didn’t hesitate, not with him. Her hand finding home in his as they moved at that leisurely pace. “So you say,” she gave him a small, warm smile. Eyes lingering before her thumb ran over the back of his hand.
“But,” amusement danced in her eyes but she didn’t face him. Only looking at the path ahead. “If you should find a door,” only then did her eyes slid to him, “I wouldn’t mind a visit.” A small huff of a laugh before the shrill laughter of one of the boys drew her attention. “They would love it too.” While Cassian hadn’t been the warmth of a parent, he made the effort to be there. And that’s what mattered to Iliana.

Cassian nodded his head, no sly smile on his lips, just a set expression. She had made a request and it was the least he could do to meet it. Surely when they arrived in Cambria a quick visit to Lorendale would be in order. It would likely be weeks, but no matter. Some time was better than none.
