HISTORY
Tale:
From the day he was born, Peregrine was different. He couldn't feel pain. It was strange, and his parents often wondered if he might be gifted. If that was the case, however, it would mean that his mother was unfaithful, as gifts do not run in the family. She swore day and night that it wasn't the case, but it tore a rift in the family, and one day, his mother simply "left."
It wouldn't be until he was about five that his father would learn that his son's strange symptoms truly could be explained away with a medical diagnosis. It was called congenital analgesia. It's an extremely rare condition where the sufferer can feel things like temperature changes and the difference between a sharp or dull object, but if said object were to pierce the skin, they would feel no pain. This was Perry's plight, and his mother never had to go. But she would never return, nor be seen again.
As the years passed, Perry would be raised as any other noble, learning how to dress, how to behave, and all the other appropriate etiquettes. His interests, however, began to steer towards the very clothing he was wearing.
While he couldn't feel pain, he could still feel discomfort. His clothing was always itchy or tight or unbreathable. It always appeared dull or gaudy but never something he deemed fashionable, or comfortable. It drew his attention towards designing and compiling something better.
And why should it end with men's apparel? Why, there was many a time that he'd noticed the fair women of Lorendale to be wearing tight or dull garments as well. Even the rich looked uncomfortable. Why should fashion only be to show off wealth? He now had a purpose.
Perry managed to convince his father (after designing and creating a comfortable and stylish suit for him) to allow him to open a boutique right in town. Now, he wouldn't quite be allowed to be so hands on with the actual garment making, his family could afford to hire people for that; not to mention the many times Perry pricked his finger with a sewing needle and got blots of blood on things without knowing. But Perry would still be the owner of the shop, and would still be making the designs.
His shop was a resounding success, and in the first two years, Perry was able to repay his father for the money used to buy and open the business, as well as put a good amount aside for himself. Of course, one day he'd inherit the family fortune, but until then, he'd take comfort knowing he'd never need another loan.
