The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Vesper did not have the patience to deal with stubborn children. She pushed back from the table then and stood, the movement never quite as smooth as it once had been before she'd lost her leg. She approached Othello, the familiar step thud of her foot across the floor, and though he was taller than her her presence was as if she was the one who stood over him.
"You seem to have mistaken me for someone common, oh Champion," she used his title with a hint of sarcasm, "I am not a prize to be won simply to hang on the arm of a man in order to make him look better. If I were, I would have been wed long ago. If you wish for my hand then you must prove yourself worthy of it," she said with a sneer. She looked sternly at him with inky gray eyes before making a turn to leave. "Enjoy your potatoes," she muttered.

"Well you enjoy being a cold hearted bitch," Othello didn't hold back or look like he regretted anything, "Dontcha ever wonder if it isn't your choice? Maaaaaybe it's your crabapple attitude? Perhaps, should anyone ever be shrill enough to conversate with ya' in the first place learn avoiding you is the best less their own fucking heart grow cold and bust?" Othello shivered, "I'm tired of proving anything to anyone."

Vesper wasn’t facing him when he shot out his first accusation. A cold hearted bitch. She smiled. A real smile. He wasn’t wrong. She was a bitch and she did like it. She turned to face him, a slow, menacing kind of turn. The smile on her face remained and it was filled the darkness, the kind of darkness that went hand in hand with being a witch of nevermere.
“Yet…only moments ago you were asking to court me, so surely you saw something in me you liked enough to ‘tolerate’ as your prize wife.” She took a slow step towards him and began to mutter under her breath. The edges of the room began to darken as it felt smaller and smaller. The tent seemed to creak as if it was made of wood and the air around them felt heavy.
“I’m not about to apologize for who I am. It led me to where I am to today,” she spoke, taking slow steps closer and closer to him. Muttering more words he’d start to feel like his body was heavy, pulling him towards the ground, hopefully down to his knees. “The same could be said for you. So tell me…are you glad your path brought you here, to me, or not?” She stopped just out of reach of his arms.

Othello still didn't shy or move, his own twisted grin spread, of course she was using magic that's all these women had. And he sunk slowly, fighting regardless, "I can tell you what I'm glad about," his left knee sunk first as he cackled, "That when I'm out of this collar...I'll be glad to wipe so many smiles off of so many peoples faces," he looked up at her, "...that's what I'm glad about right now love."

He had spirit. She had to give him that. She had never lied when she said she found him intriguing. She had no intention of harming him. Quite the opposite in fact. It was clear to see how hard his experiences had been. Could she blame him for being so bitter? Of course not. She would be too.
“There you are,” she said softly, a tone of praise in her dark voice. Standing over him she continued to smile. Her dark gaze filled with fire. “I knew there must be more beyond that playful facade.” She drew her finger up his neck, over the collar, and to his chin as she lifted his face towards her. She bent down, skimming her lips over his slowly, though not quite kissing him. He felt no further weight on his body though she hadn’t let go yet either.
“I want to see who you really are, Othello. Do you want to show me? Or do you want to play more games?”

Othello growled at the fucking teasing wench, "No one wants the real me," he said through gritted teeth, "All this facade is what everyone wants me to be...the real me wants out of here...to be free."

He was angry and she liked that. It made more sense than the playful, jovial guy who seemed to have been passed from kingdom to kingdom as little more than a tool or a slave. She wasn't against that idea as a whole she supposed but she found she wasn't exactly ready to just walk away from the Lorendaler just yet either. The magic she held against him was released, allowing him to stand once more as the darkness in the corners of the room faded away, the room feeling light and calm once more.
She moved back to her chair and sat down before looking back at Othello. "What would your life look like if you were given such freedom?" she asked casually, as if they were talking about the weather or the meal.

Othello was red faced and his lips were tight enough to show white, with the weight gone and Vesper sitting down again the Gifted man furiously wiped at his brow. He wasn't embarrassed, angry yes but not embarrassed. He knew for a fact he could kill half of the camp before a witch could utter a single word, that's why he was in the collar. For their sake, not his.
Collecting another bottle of wine Othello returned to his seat and just drank from it for a good minute. Sitting it down with a heavy thump Othello spoke, "I would settle my debt to the King first, go fight in his war. Come home a war hero. I'd want my ship and I'd want to sail...leave the whole stinking world behind...live on the water...," then he shrugged, "but that could be the fake me talking? Because I don't know what I'd do with freedom...I've always been on the outs. Always wild. I don't feel those things as much anymore...but I get bored, an itch to bite. Hell if anyone paid attention they'd realize I'm best if given a task; a mission. Something to focus on. Like maybe focusing on cracking some skulls! Shit! Something is better than this," he indicated the tour.

Vesper actually listened. Probably because this time he was giving her something worth listening to. As much as she might wish she was a more light hearted that enjoyed jokes and messing around, she always struggled to do so. So when he was being flirty and playful she couldn't match that kind of energy.
But this. Frustration, anger, but loyalty too, freedom, and...violence. The thought of watching him, untethered, destroying his enemies...now that was something she'd very much like to see.
"I don't disagree. It's interesting to see where we are but I was not given a direct task either. It makes me feel...useless, weak...invisible." She shook her head, finding her thoughts training in a direction of her being more vulnerable than she meant to. "I notice you didn't mention marriage in that list anywhere...is that something you truly want for yourself or only in the sense that it will bring you closer to your other goals?" she asked, not judging or anything else, she really wanted to know. "How exactly is it that you have to settle this debt to the King?" And why was she suddenly so interested in helping him?

Everything she said was exactly how Othello felt, useless and invisible. A mind or ego hell bent on some reward or task was how Othello thought his mind worked, perhaps he needed praise? Maybe he wanted to live a life worth mentioning even if it was destruction and hell raising!
"Well," he grunted and sat back in his chair, "I want both...companionship and yes I feel 'looking the part of a sane person by marriage' would further me toward my goal of freedom," and he didn't care to admit that, "But I feel wanting you is solely based on the way you haunt a room and your presence leaves other fools dumbstruck...you're pretty...and I sense you have a deeper darker connection to chaos...like me..."

Vesper liked the way he described her as 'haunting'. Never before had she felt a word so accurately describe her. Her eyes seemed to darken as he spoke of a connection to chaos, something she did understand quite well. Her fingers brushed over her lips thoughtfully but she didn't reply directly, not yet.
"You didn't answer my other question though, what exactly is it that you are required to do in order to pay back this debt to the King?"
