The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Stepping through the portal with Ellison and Octavius, Kat hadn't been sure what to expect of Coheed. She had some general knowledge and then the stuff she had learned in the military, but otherwise it was a vast unknown to her. It's not like she had some long winded education about all the kingdoms, and learning on the fly had always been what she did best anyways. This was a little different though, especially from the stories she had heard from other soldiers, about their festivals and weddings, and how they had treated women, at least until recently.
After a while when it was just the two of them she looked over at Octavius. "Was this, anything like what Cambria was like?" Having never left Neveremere, and barely Skia, Kat was more than a little out of her element. Still she had her magic and her partner, so it wasn't like she was completely off the deep end. Just surrounded by a bunch of guys who might just see her as essentially a piece of meat.

Octavius felt oddly at ease upon stepping into Coheed. It was Nevermere, his home, that had him feeling out of place. Call it reverse culture shock. It was nice to be deployed again.
They were walked through a brief tour of the territory, given the opportunity to examine certain aspects of what their lives would look like, and then they were released to do as they pleased. Octavius had requested they go for a walk. It was not a long one, just a chance to get away and debrief a little.
"Similar." He said with a nod, something about his demeanor a little more serious than it had been back in Nevermere. His eyes searched Kat's face for any indication of how she was feeling or what she was thinking.
"Hmmm." This whole place had her feeling... out of place. It was something she had thought she was used to but this was at a different level. In Nevermere she hadn't totally felt in place anywhere but the military, and even there her attitude and loud mouth set her apart a bit.
Apparently truly leaving home was a bit unsettling, something to be noted and filed away. There was certainly no time to think on the matter. "It's hot."

Octavius's mouth opened into a half smile at her words. A small, even petty thing to say considering the magnitude of what it could mean for them to be here, but something about the statement was comforting, oddly enough.
"It is." He agreed. His eyes left her face to scan the scenery around them. They found her again after a moment. "The soldier here already seem pretty well equipped, huh?" It wasn't long ago that he was one of them, but in Cambria. He wasn't sure what he had to offer. Kat? Now she had things to give, to be sure.
Looking back over at Octavius with a smile, it was just the truth of the matter. And honestly the thing weighing the most heavy on her at the moment. What she wouldn't give for some clouds in the sky right about now. "Yah I guess, makes sense of course after the attacks and all that." Surely no one would be slacking after that.

Octavius shrugged his shoulders, not agreeing but not disagreeing. Just...neutrally accepting what she said, not committing to anything more on that subject. Another silence lulled and he blinked a few times, still looking over at his partner.
"Are you missing them yet?" She would know who the them was, of course. Not her husband. Her children. Her siblings. The only people in this world he was confident she would die for.
Kat looked down at her feet, considering his question, not entirely wanting to look at him as she considered. She had always been around her family. One of her siblings at least within shouting distance most of the time. Kasper leaving had been enough, and now she was off as well.
"I don't think it's set in yet." Her gaze moved back up, letting out a sharp breath from her nose. "Maybe it won't, I've often been called heartless." Ignore it, that's what Kat would do. Seemed a good bet anyways and lot easier than reflecting on family far far away.

Octavius laughed, though it didn't seem an appropriate time to laugh. He quickly explained,
"I don't even know you that well yet, Kat, and I know you aren't heartless. In fact, you are a rather passionate woman." He grinned at her and reached out his fist, gently pushing her bicep, hopping his words would serve to cheer her up, if only a little.
"Heartlessness would look more like apathy, if you're asking me." He shrugged his shoulders and looked back towards the city and the bustling and the smoke.
"Passionate. I don't think I've heard that one before." Laughing she shook her head. Sure she had been told she was wild at times. Unruly, difficult, those were words often used. And so it was weird to hear someone speak of her in a positive despite not knowing her that well.
So she punched him back, not gently. "Hopefully the woman of Coheed like whatever I'm bringing to the table." Doing a good job on her first assignment back was probably a good idea.
