The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

She had expected him to be happier. He smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes the way he normally smiled. His words sounded encouraging and sincere, but she knew what they meant. He was indifferent, or not happy. She cocked her head to the side, now that he had dropped his hands.
Scout didn't really understand his statement. Had he been born a different age, then what? "Then what, your highness?" she asked. She didn't even know if he would answer the question, because while she didn't really understand what he meant, she was capable of realising it was a question with an unspoken end.

Augustus just gazed at her, lips parted slightly as if words might spring from his tongue at any moment. His eyes bounced around her face as if he could find his next words in her features. Then what? What happened after he finished the sentence he knew he couldn’t say? What would she be left with after that unspoken but conspicuous bridge was crossed? It would be selfish, he decided, to lay the truth at her feet so that it might be a burden for her to bear. But neither would he lie to her.
“I suppose we’ll never know,” He said eventually, eyes lingering for a moment before he turned them back to the horizon.

It took him a while to find the words, and the words that he eventually said, were not something Scout has suspected. In return, she was quiet for a moment. I suppose we'll never know. The blonde felt like she had a general idea of what he had wanted to say, but perhaps it was indeed for the best that it wasn't spoken out loud.
Instead of saying anything, she too returned her eyes to the horizon. Maybe the mountains could answer her questions. After all, they sung the song of the women of Lorendale.

Augustus too would turn his eyes to the horizon, standing with her until the sun had set, keenly aware of her presence. Of everything, everything about her. He’d stand there in unbroken silence for as long as she would allow, the warmth of the suns rays fading as the evening turned to chill.
